Still GREAT After 1 Year!

It runs on 45 amps. Simply put this is the number you should be looking at. Other receivers at higher price points run less amps compensating with more watts. I auditioned an Onkyo (36 amps I think & 105 watts/channel) with the HK AVR500 (45 amps & 80 watts/channel). At the same volume level, the HK blows away the competition with rich, full sound.

The pros outweigh any of the cons with this unit. As with all HK products, this particular unit is very sleek and elegant looking. The surround modes are easy to setup using on-screen menus which also allow for plenty of customization. As for the remote, I've seen better but this one does allow for macros permitting you to turn-on your entire system with the touch of one button. And again, this unit sounds GREAT with all inputs including cassette, CD, DVD, VHS, and cable producing very vivid and accurate sound.

Now for the cons... ...this model lacks many of the surround modes (theater, cinema, auditorium, arena etc) that other systems have. My personal feeling is that this is not necessarily a con. I don't need all of these other "processed" modes but it may be something you like. I have just replaced a Dolby ProLogic receiver that had all of these extra modes which, after playing with them at first, I forgot about and never utilized for many years. It does have Pro Logic, Dolby Digital and DTS which are all essential.

Please let the following con pay tribute to the outstanding output of this unit. The AVR500 does not have an input for phono. I love my vinyl and have hundreds of albums. Because of this I almost decided to purchase the Onkyo which included a line-level input for phono. The HK's sound was SO convincing that I opted to retire my turntable to the closet (I have since hooked it up to a separate amp).

Harman Kardon AVR500

I have owned this reciever for 6mo and love the quality of sound it produces. It performes equally well in both stereo and cinema modes. my reciever was one of the early serial numbers so I have had to have the volume control replaced, eratic volume control was a problem on the first AVR500's. This reciever is very flexible with many analog, digital, coax, and s-video plugs. I would have given this reciever a 5 Star rating if I didn't have to have it in the shop for a month!

Seriously consider this AVR

I purchased this amp/receiver about a month ago and had it hooked up the night it arrived. The setup is kind of confusing at first but once you figure it out (what the manual is saying) it isn't too much trouble. I am a big believer in amps over watts because you can create high watts with low amps and hence no sound but if you reverse the order; high amps and low watts the neighbors come a knocking. I also like to be able to "feel" my sound ie. the rumble of a tornado in the movie Twister. This receiver does/has all of this and more. The one con I have for this receiver is that it is short of inputs by 2. 1 is phono which I don't listen to alot so it wasn't a big con. The 2nd missing input is one for my satelite which has digital outputs which would have been nice to hook up but this was overcome by entering through the VCR. Oh well can't have everything on a buget. Overall this is one of the best AVR's I have seen for the price. If you like the artificial sound stages of other systems then don't buy this AVR but if you want the sound that came with the DVD, CD or Tape then this one is for you. You won't complain about the price when you get it set up.

great boots

These a comfortable boots and still warm in winter even with all those vents. The down side if you put the winter liner in your pants it gets hard to zip the boot up. They claim they are waterproof I have yet to test this as it is still winter and I don't drive in the snow.

Once in a lifetime purchase

For me, this is one of those well spent "Once in a lifetime" Purchases. The unit does everything I ever wanted an A/V system to do, plus much more. EXAMPLE: With it's on-screen display system, I can delay the sound output of any specific speaker to the nano-second so that every speaker delivers sound to my ears at the exact same time. It's spectral range goes below and above what the human ear can detect and is incredibly sharp on both ends, thanks to the reserve amps. From the rumble of a 747 take-off, to the high-pitched chirp of a bird in a surround speaker. Add to this no audible hiss or distortion at all, even at peak volumes. This unit also actually switches all of your Audio AND video feeds together with either coax, s-video, digital, or fiber cable inputs and outputs. This feature truly eliminates multiple remote controls for ALL of your other A/V components. After all of this techno-babble, the instructions were very clear and the unit was fairly easy to set up. It did take me a few hours, but the time spent was well worth it. This unit was built with top notch quality. You will probably never have to (or want to) purchase another reciever.

High Quality and Versitile

I've had this unit for several months now and I love it. In comparing it with other models having the same features, I believe the slightly higher price is justifiable. There are plenty of audio inputs for the average user, and each channel (all 6) has a line-level output. Compared to other brands which only provide Center and Sub, or just Subwoofer line outs, this is a nice touch. The sound quality is excellent, even through lower-end speakers, and there's power to spare.

The multi-room feature may seem unneeded, but it's nice to have. You can send a line-level signal to another amp, and listent to the same thing in separate rooms. You can also have the HK send a different signal to the second room than you're currently listening to on the main channels. It would be nice to have more video switching inputs, since I have used them all at this point. I think the next model up (AVR500) has at least one more video option.

I've only had one problem with my AVR300, and that's heat. I had mine in a glass-front cabinet along with my other equipment, including a DVD palyer and computer. After enough time with everything running, the amp would cut out on one or more channels. I eventually removed the glass door, and haven't had any problems since.

The hk avr 300 is an excellent sounding 5.1 receiver.I picked it up on ebay for 75 bucks.The unit runs rings around most receivers under 400 bucks.The3 unit will not carry an hd signal,only s-video quality.If your looking for great sound at a low price,this may be the right unit for you.5 star rated.This unit can only be purchased used.If you are looking for 7.1 with hd please look elseware.Thank you for reading my review.from Stewart L.2/19/07 440pm est

a flexible, easy to configure system

I have every component plugged into this thing, dvd, cd, tape, tv, vcr. i like how it automatically switches the output to the tv based on the component you select. digital connections allow me to use coax, or optical for dvd, giving a very crisp picture and sound. one issue that i've found is that if you turn it on to DVD mode, then turn on your dvd player and start a dvd, it will not play through the system. if you turn the dvd player on first, then the HK, everything works ok. (may be specific to the COAX connection). the system has two coax inputs for multiple types of components. the front of the system is vintage HK. very slick look, not too many buttons, very crisp and clear LEDs. as with many of the other reviews, i agree that you will probably never turn the volume knob up past half way...it pumps out a lot of power to multi-speaker systems.

Lacking features

Beware that the AVR 100, while excellent at audio processing, lacks a Phono input (for those who still care), and lacks the ability to record one thing to VCR while watching another. Both of these features were removed when H/K moved from the 5 series to the hundred series. It also lacks S-video inputs/outputs.

excelent entry level dolby digital receiver!

not as many bells and whistles compared to other common similary priced receivers. you could get dolby digital,dts, and 400 to 500 watts of power,and lots of useless soundfields but what you won't get is clean, effortless,dynamic sound. while it's rated at only 40wpc it blows away any bargain priced receiver no matter how many watts it's pushing.thats because along with those 40 watts it carries 30 amperes of current! it has it's limitations but trust me it will drive your system to theater levels with ease! plus it has 6 channel direct inputs for future formats like dts or dolby digital ex. i think you would be crazy to buy a sony or pioneer at this price! we all strive for the latest and greatest sound money can buy and with avr100 you will find it! :)

For starters I bought this from onlycos, would highly recommend.I have never bought a cosplay before, so I was extremely cautious about getting one online. Finally after taking the plunge I went with this one through onlycos. I am thrilled that I did.The fabric is light, but sturdy enough to take daily wear. It looks amazing. Amp with Atl. Tech. THX select

This seems like a really nicely built amp. I bought a demo model for under $500 which makes is a real bargain. It runs warm but not hot to the touch. It sounds very dynamic and clean, I can't detect any kind of coloration from the amp. If anything it's too transparent because it will make bad sources sound as they are: bad. I haven't tried it with any big speakers to see how well the bottom end hits, but the top end seems real good. Very dynamic for movies with my Atlantic Tech. System 270 THX Select speakers. The retail prices are a bit high, for $1200 I'd probably prefer other amps such at Outlaw's Model 750 for $1099 or others from Parasound, B&K or Rotel. But if you can find a decent price on this amp it is a high quality product. It could easily meet THX Ultra specs for power and performance.

Killer Amp -- all five of 'em

I bought a Sig 2.0/2.1 combo because my speakers are 25 years old, the size of small coffins, and have low impeadances. They love current. Even with 45 amps of current, the protection circuits in my old HK AVR500 would kick in under heavy (cranked to the max) loads, and shut the unit off.Specs:The amp has 5 X 100 watts per channel for home theater applications. Frequency response is <1Hz - 170kHz, +0dB/-2dB with ?100 Amps of current. Total Harmonic Distortion is rated at <0.03% at rated output.IMPRESSIONS:I did an a/b comparison between my Harman Kardonn AVR500 and the signature 2.1 amp. The AVR500 has some of the best amps available in an home theater receiver. The 2.1 amp is made by Madrigal, the division of Harman International which makes Mark Levinson and other ultra high end products, so, I expected some improvement over the 500. I plugged the preamp outs on my AVR500 to the Sig 2.1 using some midgrade RCA cables. To my surprise, the 2.1 is a real improvement. It is fast, detailed, articulate, controlled and powerful. The soundstage is very, very good. The balance is excellent, with a slight low midbass prominence.What this means is that my speakers found bass I thought they lost to room accoustics or maybe never had. I put on the Fleetwood Mack DVD "The Dance." The grit at the edge Stevie Nicks' voice showed up along with the air over the mike. I put on Guennevere from the Crosby Stills and Nash 4 CD compilation. You could hear the flutter of the bass string along with the note. I always though my speakers were a bit analytical, but they found a warmth in the vocal harmonies I didn't think they had. Yes! (Keys to Ascention DVD) - Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Royal Albert Hall DVD) -- George Benson (DVD Audio) - The Doors (LA Woman DVD Audio) - Horowitz in Moscow (CD) - Cheryl Crow (CD). They all sounded better.I subsequently bought a Carver M500t amplifier which is a low end audiophile quality amp with 200 watts per channel. The Carver aparently was designed for a "tube" sound, and sounded soft and colored in comparison. The Carver was swiftly sold on e-bay.Life is good.Strengths:Lots of amps. Warm, open sound. Lots of value for the money if you can find one. Made in the USA!Weaknesses:I had some problems with one channel of the the amplifier working only intermittently and had to take it back to HK several times. Made in the USA! They couldn't fix it, and eventually replaced it.

Silent and Powerful

A friend gave me one of these in trade for some work I did for him. The trigger circuit was bad and it just needed a new diode to fix it. If you have any issues with your amplified, check that circuit out--it is a cheap and easy fix.No fans=no fan noise VERY NICE to have a quiet powerful amp. Place it in a place with good air circulation. I've put my receiver on top of it, for visibility, but if you can reverse that and put this on top, so much the better for cooling--it does get hot.It is heavy and well built, five independent channels of 100 Amps of power is a bit of over kill, particularly for the surround sound speaker channels.I was also given a powerful sub woofer which mates up to this nice. Unfortunately my receiver is old and a few of the capacitors are gone and it take a long time to warm up. I will be taking a look at that soon as it is a pretty nice receiver and worth keeping.In any event, this amp is an outstanding solid state amplifier, one of the best, and cost over $2000 new. If you can pick one up for under $1000, you scored a fantastic amplifier that will last a long long time.I know many people claim tube amps sound better. Trust me, I have heard many tube amps that audiophiles rave about, and I can't hear any difference. This amp has so much power it is certainly to be operating in the linear portion of the amp without any distortion.I like this so much I'm thinking about getting the mating pre-amp.

The best turntable you can buy for under $1,000

And probably under $2,000 or $3,000 as well. If you're like me and you still have some old vinyl around and like playing it occasionally or you're looking for an excellent turntable for recording your vinyl onto a more durable media such as MiniDisc or CD this is the deck for you. Incredibly solid and simple to use, the SL1200 with a good cartridge (I use the Shure V15 Type V MR) cannot be beat unless you spend 10 times as much (and perhaps not even then). I don't use the DJ'ing features such as the variable pitch but I do love the way the direct drive platter goes from zero to 33 1/3rd RPM in nothing flat and stays there. Again, this is a fantastic deck for recording your vinyl onto something else or just playing it.

If This Is The Standard for DJs, then...

This table will definitely make any lp collector ecstatic using it for only in-home purposes (non professional/club dj use). The other and newer version of the MK2 is the M3D (which hopefully Amazon.com will offer soon on-line). Quartz speed accuracy,wow & flutter is maintained at an even higher calibre or excellent rate.It is top notch design.The extra added feature is a re-set button for the pitch control in case you want to go back to normal speed or pitch from any point of pitch you may already be on...My point being, either the MK2 or M3D are both exceptional tables. Fitted with a good Audio Technica or Ortofon cartridge or stylus (one does not come with either turntable) the first significant characteristic is the smooth and crisp clear bass and high frequency response you get from the beginning of the record to the end; It maintains the clarity througout.I personally have switched sources of the same album title from c.d. to vinyl to make sonic comparisons and the pristine clear sound of the Technics practically rivals the digital format (until you hear ticks and pops that come with record use). It does not sound like something is being dragged across a stone slab. Amazon.com offers a reasonable price for the MK2 whereas other so-called dj specialty shops may want to gouge you for an outrageous premium price tag.Remember, the Technics MK2 is great, not gold !...

While the 1200mkII is probably the best turntable around for DJ use I think it might be a bit much for the average record owner. It should also be noted that these tables go for around 450-475$ if ordered from an on-line DJ store.

Nice color; Great quality; Pain to set-up Wirelessly

4-23-13: This is very nice printer....BUT, if you are connecting it wirelessly over a Verizon FiOS wireless router you will need to know how to set up Port Forwarding. It requires that the port UDP 137 be opened. So, I just finally got it set up. I'll keep you posted if my opinion changes.

Manual Feeder is horrible....

The printing quality is very good. I just have two complaints: 1. Its slow to start printing and shuffles around inside a lot before it pulls the first paper (and after its done printing too). 1. The manual feeder is HORRIBLE. It really sucks at catching the page, and if you start the printing job and then quickly stick a page in there, it will give a jam warning. The cheaper B&W model HL2270DW didn't do that. I dont know why this printer gets stupid. But I still love it, and I hope it lasts a long time. All relationships have their quirks I guess.

Be patient and you won't have any complaints with this pool

After reading every positive and negative review I could find on this pool, my husband and I decided to give this pool a try. We went over all the complaints, from treating the pool, putting a cover on the pool, and the most important thing is making sure the ground is level. So I will pass on a few tips that can help you the future pool buyer be aware of. The first thing that is the hardest part and can be a bit of a pain. You should measure out the diameter of pool and go around placing a level on a brick (or something that won't be warped) work your way through out the circle and check to see how level your ground is. If you need to put down sand or something to make the ground as level as possible I would do it. It took my husband 2 hrs to get this done. Next we laid out a ground cover, we were really not sure if we needed this or not. Then came the pool, and using a small air compressor (not a bike pump like the video shows) it took 45 min. to completely fill the ring. You must fill ring to the point where there are no more wrinkles in it. Then we did as the video says, to remove wrinkles in the bottom of pool. With 2in of water in the pool, my husband started from the center on hands and knees pushing wrinkles to the outer edges. Then filled the pool the rest of the way, and put the cover on it when we were done. The next day we had a bad rainstorm, and when it cleared up there were leaves and dirt all over the cover. After pulling the cover back finding a clean pool, that was a plus. We found a couple of pluses to the ground cover. If you put a bucket of water next to the ladder you can wash dirt off your feet and not bring it into the pool, and when you come out of the pool you can step on the cover and not wet ground from where the kids have been splashing water out. As for chemicals, you do need them. Buy a tester, or take your water to be tested. Get a floating chlorine dispenser, clearifier, and algaecide. We haven't used the last two yet, but you never know. So as a overview of the pool. You will get close to 15' across on the top if your ground is level and you will be able to get the 36" if your ground is level. Add more air the next day to the upper ring since sun expands the vinyl some. Spend the extra money to get a pool cover, it will save on time wanting to get in the pool instead of fishing things out. I know I have done a lengthy review, but I hope this information has helped you, and saved you a little time looking around as I have at everyone elses complaints. It took my husband and I 8hrs from start to finish. My husband and I enjoy our pool, but not as much as our 2 kids. So the extra work was worth it...

It's not a ten min. job, but worth the extra effort

Finding the right location is the key. The spot you choose must be level. Once that is done the rest is cake. I'm a single mom and I put the pool together in about an hour and a half. The leveling took 2 days! Still theres no sand needed and the ground cover that was included is perfact.This pool is very easy to maintain,but if you hang on the sides of the pool ( like kids do ) you could very easily lose gallons of water and if your on a spring or well it's important to know.

Getting it level was a nightmare for me, but once we got it right, we love it. My grandchildren do not want to play in their pool at home now because they love mine. I have about a dozen intex floats and water toys. I just think the set up was harder than I expected.

If you want the best, start here

Polycom makes a full range of conference room phones, and the Soundstation Premier is their best phone. If your needs don't justify the price of the best, then consider the plain, old Soundstation (sans Premier). Or if you have special Voice over IP needs, then check out their seperate Soundpoint IP and Soundstation IP product lines.

Are you wondering what makes the Soundstation Premier the best? Let me explain. This system uses any where from 3 to 6 mics; 3 mics are built into the base station, and depending on your configuration you can add 2 extension mics plus a remote mic. What is special is that the unit only uses one mic at a time by sensing which mic is picking up the best sound; this avoids that hollow, echo sounds that you've heard many times before on speakerphone calls.

The system also features noise canceling circuitry, so many background noises are removed. Plus it is expandable with additional mics, a remote lapel mic, and even a remote speaker station. There are other niceities including an LCD display on the base unit, but in my opinion the reason to spend the extra dollars in this unit is the quality of sound. Simply put, it is spectacular.

There are a few different Premier models, each one uses the same basic base unit. The Premier EX is expandable with additional mics, and the Premier is not, so plan accordingly. Select the unit most appropriate for your conference room setting (their web site has very nice guidelines on it). In my experience, the base unit is adequate for most 8-12 person conference rooms, and larger rooms require the extension mics. I have never used the remote lapel mic or the remote speaker setup.

Excellent value for money

I have tried a variety of cheaper conference room speaker phones but nothing comes anywhere close to the performance of the SoundStation. The sound quality is excellent, there is no distortion and the self directing mics work like a real charm. If you can afford it, just go for this one ... it is well worth the money!

Superior Conferencing Phone

A superior conferencing phone. Not difficult to set up. Great sound quality, depending on what the other parties are using at THEIR end.I wound up getting my phone from another source, as the one I originally purchased through a seller on Amazon, was in poor condition. It sounded like people on the other end were talking with a mouth full of steel wool.
