5Some things to know
By neognomic
* This heater puts out a lot of heat. Do not place any item that can catch on fire within four(4) feet of the front of this heater. Do not place any item within six(6) feet of front of heater that you do not want to get very, very hot. With both burners on, even on low, one can feel the heat emanating from it 10 feet away.* Items to the side and rear over a foot away do not receive direct heat and do not get hot. If one builds a stand/brace to hold it a foot away from any rear or side surface, this could be easily wall mounted rather than mounted on a tank. In a workshop, one could use a 12' extension hose and place the tank out of the way.* This model requires lighting it with a flame. You will need to purchase a butane lighter with long nozzle or fireplace type(extra long) matches.* You can light one or two burners but once lit you cannot shut-off just one. If you lite two and it gets too hot, you have to turn off the heater and light one burner.* The hose is very short and fittings are under considerable stress if used as suggested by attaching directly to (20#/30#) propane tank. A short extension hose is advised. This also protect the brass connection from too much wear.* It is pretty quiet but does have a constant hiss and will ' sing hi & low ' loudly when it first starts.* If you are going to need it for extended time, you should plan on having at least two 20# tanks, minimum. If the power is out due to a storm and not expected back on for weeks, you might want to buy a 40# or even larger tank. NB: A 40# tank will weigh > 70# when full - not light!* If using this for indoor heating, do NOT use it in an unvented area. This heater will suck the oxygen out of a tightly closed space in a very short time. Do not use it in any area without venting it so that a fresh supply of air is always available. An old house like the one I am remodeling has plenty of air exchange but new homes do not. If it must be used inside, place near a window and open the window a little so that fresh air is supplied. CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING AND DEATH CAN RESULT IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS!( A _vented_ fireplace is another good location to place the heater. )Other than the inherent danger in burning anything, especially burning anything inside a home, the only problem with it is that it gets so hot that one cannot be near it ... or even walk in front of it with 3 or 4 feet. The most obvious missing item is no thermostat control to regulate the output of the burners. Manual intervention is the only way to regulate temperature in the area.I like the heater. However, it is an ugly eyesore and really has no permanent place inside any living space, IMHO.For a situation where normal heating is not possible, it can and does heat a couple of rooms in a very drafty old house enough to be comfortable even when it is below freezing outside. Once the normal heating is restored this will make a great workshop/garage heater and also very nice for grilling outside in the winter without freezing the buns.If the situation is not so dire and there is some heat available, the smaller 'Buddy' version, which I also have, does very good. However, it cannot handle unheated areas when freezing temperatures are present....Although not perfect, it gets five stars because there is nothing better, it works as Mr. Heater promised and should be usable for quite a few years in the future.

4Quick Warm Heat cuts morning chill
By Rick
I have the older version that is functionally identical to the current version (they replaced the L-bolt that holds the heater on the tank with a ribbed knob on the new version). I love it for taking the morning chill off the house in the morning. I keep it in the kitchen and fire it up first thing on a cold morning. After about 30 minutes the chill is off not only the kitchen but the adjacent master bedroom and living rooms.

Be cautious - like any unvented heater it can be dangerous if you try to heat an unvented space for any length of time.

It is economical to use and even more so if you are able to find a local propane tank refiller. If you are forced to exchange the tank, it can cost [$$$]. If you have the tank refilled it will only cost [$$$].

My heater was given to me, used, and I liked it so much I gave one to my sister to use when she didn't want to burn the fireplace. I am now going to buy a newer one for the house, and relegate the older on out to my workshop.

Reliable, efficient, made in the USA - whats not to like.

4Good, reliable heat
By Greg Olson
I bought one of these for keeping me warm in the garage while I'm working. My garage is too big to economically heat the entire space, so I opted for a directional heat, as I'm typically somewhat stationary at the bench. This does the trick quite well! The unit is solidly built, and I've used it now for about 4 months without a problem.A couple of improvements I think could be made:1) The unit I have does not have an igniter on it, so you must light it via an external source (usually a match). I found I can easily light it via a small Benzomatic torch I own, but it would be nice to have an igniter on it. I'm not sure; perhaps a pricier model has this feature.2) To connect the heater to the propane, you have to use a wrench. I would prefer if it were more like my BBQ grill, where you can tighten on the connection without tools.Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase!

3Not what I thought...
By Kevin Redden
I poked around on the manufacturers web site before buying this heater to heat my garage but the site was a little misleading in that they don't tell you that this shouldn't be used for an application like I wanted. It touted the heater as being odorless which it definitely wasn't! I don't have natural gas in my neighborhood so that was out, I didn't want one of the 100lb tanks that the other "vent free" models need so I'm going to try to get rid of this one as I've just replaced it with one of the 240v electric heaters that hang from the ceiling.I'll give it three stars as I'm sure it will work well in an open construction environment which might rate a 5 but for my application it definitely gets a 1.

4slightly used
By Paul Ertsgaard
I received these cutters and immediately noticed that they had been used. The jaws clearly showed where someone had made a single cut. The jaw coating was marred, consistent with cutting a bolt of about 3/8" diameter. Since this would not affect their utility to me, I did not return them for a "new" set. Shame on whoever ordered these to make one cut and then sent them back.Since receiving these I have used them several times. They are well built and work well.Minus one star for receiving not checking the returned item for use.

5Excellent Product
By Alton L. Gilbert
After chewing up the jaws of a better-known brand of bolt-cutters, I bought this product based upo reviews at Amazon. I am very satisfied with the quality - it cuts up to 1/2 inch rebar (with some effort) and has made thousands of cuts with no visible deterioration of the cutting jaws. Highly recommended.

5It served me well.
By Keith Peverley
I just broke my 24" Crescent wrench today. So why is this a good review you ask? Well It was given to me as a gift in 1977. It was old then. I don't know how old. Just really old. I am a plumber and used it in my work for all these years. I looked here to see how much they cost. Was a bit shocked. But If I wasn't retired now I would certainly buy another one.

5Crescent AC124 24" Adjustable Wrench
By SJK
I have the full set of Crescent adjustable wrenches and this 24" AC124 is the largest one I own. I don't generally use it every day, but it has really come in handy when needed. This is a very solid wrench that is made in the USA. It has a 2-7/16" max jaw capacity and the long tapered handle gives good grip and a lot of leverage. The adjustment works smoothly and once snugged down, the jaws maintain position securely on the bolt or nut. The pin that holds the thumb wheel in is staked so can't fall out if it happens to work loose over time. This wrench is fairly expensive, but well made, so should last for many years. If you do somehow damage or wear out the knurled adjustment screw or if the spring tension becomes weak from constant use, a replacement pin, spring and knurled screw kit [Part #AC124PSK] is available as a repair part from Crescent.

5Great Tool Of The Original Crescent Quality - And Soundly Reliable When A Larger Crescent Is Needed
By alexanderaku
I own Crescent "Forged Crestoloy Steel" wrenches I've had for as long as 50 years - that were made by the old Crescent Tool Company in Jamestown, New York. Three are 10" versions that have seen heavy use since I was a kid. My older model Crescents have a polished side face instead of the new machined tooling marked face on this new model. They also have a threaded screw pin that holds the rotational worm gear. That rotating gear is also spring loaded just as are the newer Crescents by Cooper Tool.As far as the metal, it looks the same in both the old and new versions. But, the handles are thicker in the new version by Cooper Tools. Machine work in both cases is also of the same tolerances and gives the new wrenches the same proven strength and feel of the older ones that were forged at the original Crescent Tool Company in New York. I'm sure either version would break, using a cheater pipe on the handle for added leverage, rather than ever bend a handle. In fact, I have used cheater pipes with mine whenever needed - but I've never broken a Crescent wrench by made Crescent Tool Company. I have broken and bent those made by Proto, Kobalt, and other Chinese manufacturers where I was accustomed to using a Crescent Tool Company wrench without damage - and all my old Crescents still work just as well as they did when new, athough their finish is quite worn now. Incredibly, they still don't look that bad after so many years of hard use, and stand well beside my new ones. I can also say I've never seen a speck of rust on my "Crestoloy" Crescent wrenches - despite they have seen use in wet environments and have been left in stored in damp areas. Although, I have sprayed them with WD-40 now and then through the years. While some may say the new pin design for the rotating worm gear (in the Cooper Tools model) is less desireable, it has its merits. The older design allowed the disassembly of the tool for better cleaning of it if needed, but that created its own problem. By having the unstaked pin, the screw could work its way out and allowed the wrench to fall apart. I know, I lost one good Crescent wrench in just that manner once, and it prompted me to stake the screw pins in on my remaining older Crescents many years ago. The problem of a lost pin has never happened again - since I staked them in. Crescent wrenches like these by Crescent Tool and Cooper Tools are truly extremely rugged tools with unexpected accuracy and strength. Because of this, I have purchased the entire set from 4" to the 15" and 18" models. The 18" here is the largest in my set and versatile for me when working with heavy metals and very large fasteners. Sure, I have hundreds of sockets and closed and open end-wrenches, including pipe wrenches and Vise Grips, and Channel Lock pliers, but the original Crescent is the most universal and reliable wrench you can rely on when it's not convenient to carry many wrenches around, and you don't want to damage a fitting. If anyone had asked me if they could have improved on the original Crescent, I would have said no. But, the new wider handle does feel better - especially in my now old and arthritic hands. No the handles aren't polished, but are more of a satin finish - just like they've always been. But then again, The original Crescent wrench was designed to be a rugged tool that saved time looking for and getting the proper size wrench - while providing a close tolerance fit to nuts and bolts that didn't damage them. That's an accomplishment that made the tool world famous. You'll pay more for these "original" Crescents, but the price is worth it over all the competition. One tip: While the Crescent jaw head makes a handy hammer, don't use the jaw end of a Cresent wrench for a hammer - it's possible to burr the metal on the open end of the housing for the sliding jaw, which can prevent the easy ability to close the jaw for smaller jaw openings. Hold the tool by the jaw head and use the handle as a striking tool if needed.Try this link if you need parts for yours - Crescent AC118PSK 18-Inch Replacement Pin, Spring and Knurl for Adjustable Wrench.

5Still impressive, still USA made
By Jordan T. Yard
If you need a beefy adjustable wrench then the Crescent is a fine wrench. It is still manufactured in America, which is a good thing. I try to buy America! when I can. But it's hard to do that anymore. Crescent has been around a long time and I hope they can stay around for a while longer. America!
