5Most Bang for the Buck...DD and DTS Super Speakers
By DeanTecklenburg (deantecklenburg@iname.com)
I have had five of the SuperOne speakers for several years now. Along with my M&K Subwoofer, these speakers are all anyone would ever need for a Home Theater System or just plain listening to any type of music. The Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 soundtracks are awsome to hear at any level. When you crank up the volume (try the opening minutes of Saving Private Ryan on DVD) you can't believe the sound. You start looking for a place to take cover yourself. You won't be dissappointed with the SuperOnes by/buy the pair (2) or by/buy the fives (5). A quality subwoofer is needed however for the very low end of the spectrum.

5Great for music and theater
By James K. Bashkin
As another reviewer has suggested, NHT Super ones make great L/R (and even center, though I use an NHT super center model) speakers for home theater, with the super zeros being excellent choices for rear speakers when using Dolby Digital or DTS sources. For Dolby Prologic, dipolar surrounds are the recommended construction. My Denon Receiver allows me to hook up two types of surround speakers and assign them depending on the source (i.e. VCR or stereo TV with Dobly Pro Logic encoding for the dipolar surrounds and Super Zeros or Super Ones for DD/DTS. I have not actually run the wires for this, however. With a subwoofer, the NHT Super Ones easily form a truly first rate audio system for not much money. In fact, the Super Ones are very nice without a subwoofer as long as you don't need a big bass sound for movies or music (they have credible bass and a balanced sound on their own). This is not the case with Super Zeros: they really need a subwoofer or the sound is too unbalanced towards the treble side of the audio spectrum. This is not a flaw: the super zeros were simply meant to be used with a subwoofer under all conditions.NHT Super Ones provide a system that is easily far better than standard stereo racks from appliance stores or chain stores, no matter what speaker size they come with (please NEVER buy those! They just obscure the music and sound like mush). You will not find better sound unless you spend serious money for high end speakers. For music, unless you can spend a lot, stick with a 10 inch subwoofer (try the NHT's). Most of the 12 inch models you see on the showroom floor will sound sloppy (unless you have purchased a servo design or other relatively expensive model from an audio specialty shop). If your use is mainly home theater, a 12 inch subwoofer should sound right (for explosions etc). Luckily, the NHT models are excellent in 10 and 12 inch designs. For many other manufacturers, especially the high-volume mass production models, you will find the 10 inch versions to be superior to larger subs rom the same company for critical listening and enjoyment of music. The sloppiness doesn't seem to be a big deal for movies (I know what musical instruments sound like, but explosions don't create any particular expectations with most people). Final note: with so many great concert DVD's coming out, it is worthwhile to purchase truly musical subwoofers. If you still want really impressive movie sound effects in a large room, you can always use two 8 or 10 inch subs rather than one mushy monster.

5Excellent Value
By A Customer
The NHT Super One makes an excellent value for someone looking for superior sound reproduction but not yet ready to spend thousands on a speaker system. Purchase a pair of these for up front, a pair of super zeros for the rear, and a single for the center channel. Finish off with a subwoofer for a complete surround sound experience that rivals systems costing 3 or 4 times the price.

You will not be dissapointed with this speaker.

5Personal experience w/Sony MDS-JE520
By BERK BRYANT
I was anxious to get a mini disc recorder and this specific model. I had seen ads, seen the product in use at the public radio station in Louisville, KY where I do a show and decided that's for me. I am throughly pleased with mine. It offers so many options. I have at times put cuts from LPs and cassette tapes on a disc to use on the show. Quick location, quick cueing and much better reproduction of sound is a distinct advantage, especially in a DJ role. Aside from the radio use, I have copied some very old tapes I wish to preserve. Tapes that can not be replaced. Interviews gathered over the years with Chet Atkins, Bill Monroe and others. Old programs to keep. I am sure the disc will out last the cassette tapes. The great and useful features of naming the disc, naming each individual cut, single track or complete disc instant erasure, recording timeing (space to go or space used) moving tracts and a host of other useful goodies. I have found mine to be a great asset from both a personal and professional standpoint. I highly recommend this unit.

4Good Value for the Price
By A Customer
I find this unit easy to use and is an excellent compliment to my home audio equipment. Digital inputs and output enable easy exchange with my CD players. This unit seems to work fine with the newer 80 minute minidiscs based on my early trials. With the digital output on this unit, it is easy to make a digital CDR copy of your minidisc of a live recording you have made, so long as you also have a digital optical input on your CD recorder. I found the jog dial easy to use after a little practice. I dislike the fact that line sync recording function from a digital source can only be activated using the remote. Would prefer this function to also be available on the main unit since I use it frequently. This is a small complaint for an otherwise very nice unit.

5The perfect way to record.
By A Customer
The mini disk format is the best way to record. The ability to organize the disk the way you want after you finish recording is a big plus. Also, you can erase the disk at a later date if you decide you don't want what is on it. There is a protection device on the disk so that you don't accidently erase the disk. Last, but not least, is the quality sound the mini disk format gives you. Cassettes will sound so inferior once you start using the mini disk player. Sony is the best one out there. I have read a number of specs concerning the other brands, and this one rates very high. Keep a look out for this one and you will be very satisfied once you purchase it.

5Sony CD player very good condition
By Joan F. Jones
I wanted something economical for mother (94 years) and didn't want to spend a great deal. It was shown to be white on picture but black when arrived. However, itwas so well cared for and packaged I didn't care. Very good condition which gives me confidence in buying something used on Amazon now when desired.

4Cool Grip
By TT
The thumb-operated cassette transport and radio tuning joystick is great for runners. You can control all essential functions with just your thumb! The unit fits comfortably in your hand, and there is a music seek function that lets you skip ahead to the next song.

There is also a unique "beep" feedback that sounds in the headphones whenever you choose to play, stop, FF, REW, etc. This audible feedback is useful to confirm that you chose the correct function and that the player is doing what you asked it to.

One feature that could have been added is a stopwatch timer. Some of the other Sony models have this feature, but it seems to be absent on this model. The safety LED flashers are great for early-morning or late-night runners.

4Manufacturing error?
By A Customer
I loved this product... for about 2 months until the plastic around the handstrap broke ! I was actually stopped in the street by another girl with the same walkman who also had the same problem. The part that breaks is a very well shielded area right next to the belt hook. It appears to be an error in manufacturing as I took good care of my walkman, never dropped it and never treated it too harshly. Fortunately I am getting it repaired now but it is out of action for at least 3 weeks. Overall I found it to be a great model, ideal for running especailly with the thumb toggle which manipulates both tape and radio stations. This model however uses up more battery power than my previous walkman so beware. The hand strap is what makes this ideal for exercise unfortunately on mine - it broke.

5STR-DA333ES - Great system for the price!
By Shawn L. Conway
The STR-DA333ES is the entry model in the Sony ES Receivers line. The system offers 70x5 Watt power in 5.1 Surround mode, and 80x2 Watt power in Stereo mode. While not the most power available, the price is quite attractive when considering the level of quality and craftsmanship put into this device. With a 32-Bit Digital Signal Processor and a 24-Bit Digital-to-Analog converter, the system has all the requirements of a fine home entertainment system.

The 1999 model comes with a 2-Way Infrared remote which is capable of learning macros for complex Home Audio systems. There are 4 digital inputs for various pieces of equipments, such as a MiniDisc, DVD, DAT or DSS system. There are 27 Sound Fields capable of reproducing sound from some of the great music halls of the Country. The speaker setup and surround effects are easily configurable from the on-screen menu.

Overall, this system is more than adequate for a beginner or moderate Home Theater buff. With more capacity than your typical user will need, this system will provide you with many options and possibilities for your Home Theater.

4Sony Receivers
By BloodLustX
I took a look and used the Sony STR-DA333ES and it is a very good products. But if you are looking for a Sony reciever you might also want to check of the Sony STR-DA555ES which has 120 watts opposed to 80 watts. Also another thing the 555 has is that is has the 2 way remote which is alot better in controlling everything. But if you don't need the extra watts and you don't care about the remote I highly recommand this product.

4Receiver has good sound quality for video and music playback
By A Customer
This product offers good sound quality and upgrade possibilities(preouts/5.1 channel inputs). There are enough digital inputs and the internal management of speaker placement adds a nice touch. Some ambiance enhancements add too much reverberation, however they can be user adjusted. The 80 watts fills a pretty nice size room, (even with second floor valted ceilings). Overall good remote w/learning mode.

4Jog control can't be beat
By Shelley Gammon
I have a number of caller ID systems in my home... some are included in the phone, some are supplemental equipment such as this one... this Sony model is my favorite.

There are no annoying beeps when you try to delete an entry. The jog control is a great tactile way to jump from previous to next in reviewing calls. You can select some of the numbers you've gotten calls from into a "VIP" list. With a touch of the button in the center of the jog control, you can call one of those numbers.

My only criticism is the inability of the unit to preserve your own area code selection. I live in one area code, but call a total of 3 area codes regularly... all of which are considered "local" calls that do not require a 1 or 0 to be dialed.

When setting up the unit, the dialog asks for your own number and assumes that all numbers not in your area code be preceded by a 1 by default. The "area/redial" button lets you select whether you use the 1, the area code or drop the area code entirely, but after selecting this info once, it needs to be selected again, each time you want to redial via the jog dial.

The unit should have the ability to enter a list of "local" area codes... most larger communities have multiple area codes that are considered to be local calls and the programmers should have remembered this when programming this device.

That aside, this is still one of the best caller ID units I've seen. I like the fact that it uses an AC adapter instead of relying on batteries.

The red "new call" light stays on solid and doesn't blink annoyingly... and since it's not battery operated, your unit won't be non functional from battery depletion from blinking all day long while you're away from the house.

4Great caller ID

Nice caller ID unit, easy to read. Would be nice if color was white of puddy. Unit is a little large. VIP call indicator is nice. Comes with AC adapter. Jog dial is nice touch.

4satisfactory and the price was right
By Howard Mandel
So far this carousel changer works well. All discs I've tried in it have played, and all the disc trays show up as active. The case seems strong and design-wise, it's unobtrusive. This model may no longer be available new, but the "like new" I obtained seems to be previously untouched. I like this purchase.
