Does it all

Just bought a Senco SNS65 to do the siding, sheathing, soffit, facia, etc. on the house I am remodeling. It works great, plenty of power for both 1" and 2" staples. I'm using 1" rough cut siding on the log house and it drives through and flush every time. I'm glad I bought it.

Excellent staple gun for sheathing and any other use

I work in roofing and I used Porter Cable nailers for a long time. When my last Porter Cable nailer broke down on me in the middle of a job I went with Senco under the recomendation of my friend whom is also a roofer and a former construction worker. Ive had this stapler for almost 9 months now and it still amazes me every time I use it.Fire rate is amazing. It honestly sounds like a machine gun and every staple it drives goes in correctly and without jams. Its really light and the handle is very comfortable. I can drive staples all day in plywood and not have a blister on my hand or have sore arms.In the 9 months I have used it it has only jammed about three times, and those jams were when I changed brands of staples that had a really sticky and cheap varnish to them which caused the gun to go haywire.My only gripes are that the front end spring that holds the driving assembly in place can get loose causing your gun to misfire. Simple solution for that though, just get some pressure pliers with a wide mouth and compress the spring enough to hold it in place. Also the finish on the piston head chamber can get really worn out really fast. But hey youre buying this tool for work not for looks right? The CFM required to use it is a little high but if you need the kind of power this gun delivers then you shouldnt really have a problem with that. If you need something more casual I suggest the SNS40I highly recommend this nailer for all professional contruction workers, last a long time and when they do eventually break down its very cheap to fix.

Performance and Precision

This nailer is like a german sports car. It's got power, performance and handles like a dream. The single most important feature for a good siding nailer is the ability to accurately dial in the depth that the nails are driven. For cedar, or cement board siding the depth of drive is crucial. This nailer lets you adjust the depth of drive with absolute accuracy. You can flush nail all day long and you almost never have to pull your hammer out to set a proud nail. In addition, this nailer is light at 4.6 pounds which is also important when your using it all day on a ladder or scaffolding.

The other feature that I love is that the nailer is extremely well balanced for a coil nailer. Most coil nailers are nose heavy because they don't have the stick housing to counter balance them. This nailer is not nose heavy and just has a great feel in your hand. Of all my tools, this is one of my favorites. I have not had a single jam and I've fired thousands and thousands of nails with it. This is a high performance tool, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has any amount of siding to put up. It's a time saver, and truly a joy to use.

Great Pro tool but needs focus if you are a DIY'er

I am a DIY'er. I bought this nailer to install Hardieboards on my house. This tool saved me a huge amount of time over a hammer.However, I am not a pro and here is what I found challenging:1. The depth gauge was fairly easy to use but after a while I found that I had to just nail in a course and quickly hammer the nails home. Call it user inexperience (which clearly was the case) but I ended up under-driving rather than over-driving on purpose.2. If you don't watch the plastic nail strap or cut it off frequently, it could twist around and foul the tool, requiring a stop to fix it.3. It comes with the "automatic" trigger function: Hold the trigger, push, and nails will pop out until you let go. I found that difficult to work with: I can see how that would be useful for roofing, but for Hardie Boards, it made me pay too much attention to trigger pull/release, rather than paying attention to quality work.Why 4 stars and not 5: Because the single-trip (one pull, one nail) mechanism doesn't come with the tool. I had to order that from a Hitachi dealer (referred by Hitachi themselves when I called) and it cost an additional $60-$70. Porter Cable, for example, will provide a different trip mechanism for free for their finish nailers (or at least they did when I bought one). This should have been included, or at least the price not so excessive, for such small and few parts.

Best siding tool I've used

I've done a lot of siding and I've tried a couple of different siding nailers but I always come back to the Hitachi NV65AH. These are workhorses of siding. I shoot an average of 1200 nails through these a day and the only problems I've had involved drops from scaffolding. What amazed me is how few problems I've had. After being dropped from 18 feet up the gun developed a slight leak. Not even enough to put it out of service. Considering how much dirt gets on these, from setting it on the ground or hanging from my belt into the dirt, I expected more problems.The light weight is a big deal too. Most of the other siding guns I've dealt with are at least a pound heavier. Doesn't sound like much but this tool is almost always in my hand. A pound makes a difference.The only reason I didn't give this five stars are the plastic sheeting keeps falling off, I keep getting new ones because the wire tends fly off when driving nails through Hardi plank (inevitably hits me in the face) and you can't get a rebuild kit for these, at least I haven't been able to find them. Hitachi's website says all work must be done by a certified Hitachi repair person.Yes the price is high and I wouldn't suggest buying one for one house, rent if you can, but if your work is construction your not going to go wrong here.

Hitachi NV83A Full Head Construction Coil Nailer

I work with this gun in South Florida and it is the best gun I have ever used. The specs say this gun holds 2" to 3 1/4" nails, but it also shoots 1 1/2" case hard nails into concrete like a real pro. 2 1/4" case hard nails also work very well. Down here we have all concrete block exterior walls and do quite a lot of furring to attach drywall to. This is the best of about five different makes I have used over the past 20 + years. AAAAA++++ rating.

Great Hitachi power nailers

I have been heavily using Hitachi NV 83A nailer for 6 years and I never had any problems with it, except for one time when I dropped it three stories down on solid concrete and the only thing I had to replace was the nail magazine cover. I recently purchased a twin and I will newer buy another brand. As professional framer, I definetely reccomend it against other brands that I had a chance to use.

Simply The Best

I own a roofing company in Michigan and for the past 6 years we have been using Hitachi roofing guns. The best thing about them is they are very durable. They have survived many falls, one from 4 storeis up onto a concrete slab and the only thing wrong with it was the top needed to be tightened back down. These guns operate flawlessly, all they require is daily oiling and the ocasional cleaning and O-ring replacement. In a years time we probably install over 5000 squares of shingles and spend maybe $25 per year on each gun to maitain them. These guns are very easily repaired, just a few bolts to get them apart and within a half hour or so you can replace all of the O-rings and gaskets yourself. Wich saves $$$ and when your in business to make money every bit you save only helps. These guns are built to last and perform consistantly from day 1. The only bad thing is trying to find an air compressor to keep up!

I PERSONALLY OWN 2 OF THESE NAILERS AND THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST ROOFING NAILER ON THE MARKET. I BOUGHT MY FIRST ONE IN 1990 AND THE LATEST ONE IN 1999. WE RUN BOTH GUNS ON THE JOB AND NOTHING CAN KEEP UP WITH THEM. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROOFING GUN, LOOK NO FURTHER!!

Ferari of roofing guns

I have been roofing for 15 years and have had my own company for 10 of those years. So tools mean the difference between making a profit or just making it. I owned a few differnt brands of guns for 4 years.When I bought my first Hitachi roofing nailer I wanted to return it right away because it was so much different than any other gun I've used. Boy am I glad I did'nt do that, they are so reliable and the action is so true and fast. Other guns are sloppy in the nose gear and have slow response.When you are putting down 2-3 squares an hour you can't afford delays.We own 4 of the Hitachi's now. I have been very satisfied with the speed and handeling of these guns.Therefore I dub them THE FERARI OF ROOFING GUNS

Framer's Choice

If you were to call a dozen framing subcontractors, 11 of them would own at least one of these guns. They are probably the fastest nailer on the market, which will save you labor, if you've got a crew that can use them effectively. And you can do almost anything with these guns, including nailing off LRP straps. (Wear Goggles! :) They will even shoot Teco nails! The only complaint I have is that the depth control is difficult to use, especially when switching between wall framing and nailing off a sheer wall. You might want to have one gun set for each task. In comparison, the newer Makita framing gun has a better depth control but loading it is more difficult.

first choice for framers

The NR83A is by far the best nail gun in the industry. Being a high production, custom framing contractor in the Bay Area for 20 years I have seen them all and this is the one to have. The only problem is the nail depth penetration. I found a solution to this problem in a little nail gun head attachment called Accu-Nail. This thing is cherry and makes this gun the extreme, ultimate tool for framers!

The Best Production Framing Nailer

This gun is FAST, powerful, light, accurate, easy to load, extremely durable and dependable, and costs more than my first car. But it's worth every penny. My only complaint is depth-of-penetration control. I've had problems getting shearwalls nailed correctly. I've also replace the stock tape-wrap grip with rubber because the original was sticky and unravelling. It leaks less oil than other guns do, especially Bostich which can SPRAY oil. I love the nose, definitely the best Ive seen for toenailing. The light weight and hand position make it by far the least tiring gun to use all day, and I have tendonitis from other, heavier, less well-designed guns. This is the oen for serious framers.

WHO'S WHO IN ROOFING GUNS

I have been roofing now for 3 years at several different locations for several different companies. In the last three years I have shot shingles with several different coil nailers, but the one that stands out the most is the Makita AN451. The Makita by far outdoes the competition in several different feilds it's light weight (and recoil) is respobsible for less fatige and also a faster shot pattern I beleive that the Makita competes with the staple guns in speed. The depth gauge comes in very handy when shooting down pipe flashing and step flashing, it's easy to clean and easily adjusts for different size shingles. I rate the makita at a 4 (out of 5) because I think it's the best gun i've ever shot but some things could be improved on it besides the depth gauge sometimes moving and the gauge adjustment coming loose once in awhile (all of which come from extended use) it's the perfect gun in all conditions and keeps up quite well with the supposedly faster staple guns.

I have two N80's I haven't had any problems with them at all.When loaded with a full coil of nails working over head you have a hand full,but you have a lot more nails in the gun then you would in a strip nailer. For roof and floor sheeting it can't be beat.

Indestructible Framers Choice

I have been in construction for 15 years. I have 3 of these guns and I'll tell you from a durability point of view you can't beat it. I see my guys beat the heck out of these guns and they don't fail. When i say, "Beat the heck out of them" I don't just mean the day in and day out firing, I mean turning it over and using the back or the tip to smack studs over to layout lines or to flush up just about anything. The coil bay is easily adjustable to fit any size nail. Reliability? I have seen reviews on here that there are mis-fires and jams. You are going to have a jam on this gun for one of 3 reasons.1. Your little weenie air compressor doesn't have the PSI to push it.2. You have droped the coil of nails and the tips are bent together. If this happens uncoil the nails, step on one end of the coil and stretch them out and re-coil them.3. Sometimes during the first few shots you will see a problem such as above due to the extreme capacity of the coil of nails. Use the tool for an hour and you know what's wrong. A nail head is being wedged into one of the interior coils, flip the gun counter-clockwise in your hand and it's a simple process of pushing straightening the coil with your finger or another nail, takes like 2 seconds.Anyone who has carried 15 pounds (exageration) of stick nails in their pouch knows how heavy they are and how fast they actually go, so you are constantly walking to the nail box and then, which is really fun when you are sheathing a roof. "Hey, throw me a coil of nails." Yea, you can throw these things up to guys on the roof, or on the 2nd floor because they are big enough and heavy enough to easily throw, try throwing like 300 stick nails up to someone.As for the reviews about finding nails... I have never had a problem finding nails, they have them at Menards for one, but any nail supply house will have them. I think those reviews were written by more "home owner" types that think Home Depot is the only place you can get lumber and tools. You don't need 50 different nail lengths, basically you need 2) 8's and 16's. They have galvies and regular so my question is what are they trying to use the thing for?

This one will take you home.

I've used this nailer on several framing projects and not been disapointed. It's compact design allows easy access to most tight places. Coil load averages about 300 nails so I spend more time shooting than loading. Loading is easy and rarely have had a jam. It's a little heavier due to the coil load but the advantages out weigh the weight. Can be set up for contact nailing which speeds things along. Nailer has crowned head that grabs wood for toe nailing. At 100 psi drive the nails with about 1/8" countersink. Great product, reliable, durable.
