4Useful shop accessory
By John T. Conklin
I have two HTC mobile bases. The HSJ-678 for the Jet JJ-6CSX 6" Jointer, and the HSJ-1413 for the Jet JWBS-14CS enclosed stand band saw.

Assembly of the bases is easy, taking only a few minutes. On one of my bases, the threads for the one of the lock bolts had not been tapped properly. Rather than returning it, I ended up (re-)tapping it myself.

The base is "locked" in place by hand-tightening a pair of bolts (with plastic knobs) which press against thin metal "brake shoes" which in turn press against the rear wheels. The brake shoes increase the surface area holding the wheels and prevent the bolts digging in and deforming them.

It is possible to move a machine with the wheels locked, but it takes a awful lot of force. A bit less than what's required if the tool was on solid ground, but probably more than what you'll use in normal operation.

Even though I ordered these mobile bases, I didn't think I'd ever move my tools around very much. But now that I can (move them), I find I'm doing so. This is allowing me to come up with the optimum layout for my shop.

4MUCH BETTER THAN THE "UNIVERSAL" BASE
By KRASSEL
I purchased this base at my local woodworkers store after trying one of the so called "Universal" mobile bases. No matter how I configured the universal base, I was not happy with the way it fit the machine base, I returned it and bought the OEM. The Jet mobile base is better constructed, heavier materials, and fits the saw base much better. I replaced the swivel wheel with one of Grizzly's locking casters of the same size, because their lock also locks the swivel feature. I drilled some holes in the base, and bolted the saw to the base. I don't know that this is needed, but it doesn't take much time and I believe in "suspenders and belt". The base moves the saw well and I have experienced no tipping or lateral movement when sawing. I generally just lock the swivel caster and have at it.I was told at the woodworker store to make sure and mount it with the swivel caster to the rear of the machine (as in the picture on this page), and to slide the base of the saw as far forward in the mobile base as I could get it. This puts the table almost directly over the dual wheels and precludes tipping. I followed that advice and am pleased with the result. They also told me that this was an improved model over last years, but didn't say how it was improved. I gave the base 4 stars instead of 5, because of the initial cost and the poor quality of the swivel caster. I am happy with the overall performance, fit and finish and would reccommend this base to anyone, over one of the cheaper "universal bases".

2Better than nothing
By A Customer
The rear wheels are cheap, fairly small and don't turn very well. The plastic knobs to lock the rear wheels are also cheap, a bit hard to turn, and will probably wear out soon. The front wheel's caster hardware is also flimsy and 2 of the 4 carriage bolts broke off during assembly while I was tightening them.

Keep in mind that this is a tricycle design. As such it teeters a little so be careful not to apply too much horizontal force. Also, the front wheel is a caster type roller and even though you can keep it from rolling, you can't prevent it from twisting.

This base is only worth half the price being asked for it and I recommend it only if you cannot find an alternative.

5Best 15" Saw on the market - Period!
By Tim
This saw is designed for trim. You'll need to add wood backplates along the fence to be able to cut tall baseboard and crown. A very smooth cutter! I have used this model for 15 or so years. Worth every penny and a very good price at amazon! Expect to pay $150.00 for high performance blade.

5Hitachi 15" Miter Saw
By Richard A. Asaro
I have this saw almost ten years it works great.I really like that you can see the blade spinning while cutting though the little window. My only complaints are that it is very heavy and there are a small amount of 15" blades to choose from.

5Stands the test of time
By M. Cohen
I purchased this machine about 10 years ago and it has been a truly exceptional machine. While its not that easy to lug around, I often stick it in my truck to take to a job site when I need to cut larger stock than normal. It has been flawless.

4Hitachi CB75 guide conversion assembly
By Kekani
I purchased this, finally, because I wanted to get rid of the cost of the Stellite blades, and because there are more high quality blades in the 3/4"- 1 1/4" range, at better cost. First off, the end result - with a Highland 3/4" Woodslicer, this setup absolutely BLOWS AWAY anything I could get with the Stellite Blade. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is what it took to get there, and 1 of the bearings on the top guide is at absolute max adjustment away from the blade, and it still "just" touches. I was going to send it back, but I have other plans for the top, like eventually installing a Carter 500 (oddly enough, Carter doesn't have a "nice" bracket and shaft setup for this saw and the stock guides, but has parts that will fit with this guide assembly - this is way down the road). The bottom bracket fits well, and adjusted fine. The setup of the bearings took a LONG time because they kept moving - its really difficult in that small space to fit anything to assist in setting the bearings to tighten it down, not to mention the one bearing on the top guide that is at max.The quality seems to be cheap stamped metal, but its really heavy compared to how it looks (weight is probably in the shaft and bearings, and not the bracket itself). I could probably weld up a better, more solid bracket with steel from Home Depot, but I'd still be missing one key piece - the bracket that holds the shaft for the upper guide. Could probably fabricate that as well, but that would take more effort than the cost of the guides itself (for me anyway).Once in action, the Woodslicer cuts really fast, and quiet. There was no problem with setting up the tension to no wobble - the scale on the saw was accurate for a 3/4" blade. I didn't even reset the drift for my first test cut, and it was straight on all sides. The Stellite seems more finicky to fence alignment. In the end, this review is not really about the guides itself, but more about what it brings to the table in the form of blade selection. My friend used Lenox blades in the past (on another saw) which he liked (the blades, not the saw) and got the Hitachi CB75 for his production shop. He's planning on coming over and running test cuts (which I know he'll like), and he plans on installing Lenox blades as he's used in the past. Would I buy it again? For a "first time" purchase, yes. If this one ever breaks, I'll spend a little more on the Carter Guides and fabricate my own brackets, using the ones I have as a guide, no pun intended.

5hitachi planer
By JIM D. TAYLORi
TODAY (7/11/00) I USED MY PLANER FOR THE FIRST TIME AND WAS REALLY PLEASED HOW VIBRATION FREE IT WAS AND WHAT A SMOOTH CUT IT MADE. THE FURNISHED GUIDE WAS A BIG HELP IN KEEPING THE PLANER AT A NINTY DEGREE ANGLE WHILE RUNNING A EDGE. THERE MAY BE BETTER PLANERS ON THE MARKET BUT FOR WHAT I PAID I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU COULD BUY ONE BETTER FOR THE PRICE. I HAVE OTHER HITACHI TOOLS AND NEVER BEEN DISPLEASED WITH ANY OF THEM.

5Great little planer
By A Customer
This is a great planer I inherited the one I own from my dad. Overall the one that I own is probably about 20 years old and it has never had any problems with it. The blades are easy to change and are realtively inexpensive. The nice thing about having solid steel blades is that they can be resharpened and reused, if you have the right equipment you can do it yourself or they can be sharpened by anyone you sharpens sawblades. It is nice to have several sharp sets of blades on hand. Compared to the makita n1900 make of similar size the plane compares well, when the blades are sharp this plane cuts like no other!

5Well worth the money
By Marion L. Mabe
This is a solid addition to your Hitachi P12RA planer. It can be installed and removed in seconds, and connects to a standard 4" dust collector hose, without the need for adapters. The pictures you may see online or in catalogs don't do this product justice. It is fairly heavy guage steel and about as perfectly formed as it gets. The most important feature is that it works extremely well. It's worth every penny!

5You need this!!
By EZ-biker
If your in the market for a planer - you should know that they produce MOUNTAINS of shavings in no time. Using this well made, all steel dust hood will help keep your shop a little more under control and will certainly help keep your breathing air a little healthier too. (Do I need to mention that you need to hook it up to a dust collector or a shop vac... it does nothing by itslef...)

4Tough and dependable
By Toolpig
Like most Hitachi tools , this is very well engineered. It stands up to all kinds of abuse. Mine ran for years drilling all sizes of holes in old hard concrete. I also used it for chipping which is hard on roto hammers. They don't have a lot of power for breaking concrete as this is not their intended primary use. So when you do use them for breaking , they have to run a lot longer than a demolition hammer would. It has pretty good power for drilling though. I bought mine used and had it for five years before replacing it recently. I went to SDS max which is currently replacing spline drive in the large rotary hammer market. It is a tighter mechanism which transfers more of the hammering power to the bit , resulting in faster drilling performance. If you have a lot of spline bits , this would be a good tool to buy. If you are starting from scratch , I would recommend the SDS max hammers from Hilti , Bosch or milwaukee

4good value for the price
By A Customer
after a year of use and abuse my hitachi is still going strong.it drills fast and easy and in hammer mode drives ground rods and does light demolition effortlessly.i prefer the spline shank drills and accesories over the little sds shank bits but i do use an adaptor for the slightly cheaper sds or taper shanks in the smaller sizes.industrial machinery installation is tuff on tools but the hitachi DH38YE not only came through with flying colors but outlasted a much more expensive brand.

2TKO in the first round
By Ted S.
I bought this rotary hammer for drilling in grout holes for rebar and anchor bolts and some other misc. holes in concrete. It is a very good tool for someone who has a lot of varied tasks but dosen't work the tool everyday. The clutch is a wrist saver, the bits are harder to find than SDS Max and the price is right. But the tool went down in a matter of hours, and given Hitachi's impossible to locate parts, I'm shopping for a SDS Max Hilti or Bosch. No tool is a good deal if it shuts your job down.

5How sweet it is
By Toolpig
I am sorry I didn't buy this tool sooner. It does a beautiful job. I have the big Dewalt power plane with a 7+ Amp motor. It has a lot of power for hogging out material but the chute doesn't keep up. It clogs pretty easily . Then there's the cord. Have you ever been in the middle of a crucial cut and the stinking cord hangs up on you creating a nice divot or burn mark on your piece. That problem is a thing of the past now. I hesitated to buy this little planer , thinking it wouldn't have enough power to be useful. Boy was I wrong. It totally surprized me how nicely it glides through the material . It is so light and easy to control .You never have to check the cord or grit your teeth and hope it's long enough. It won't clog up like the big Dewalt does. The fence is well made and makes accurate cuts easier. The reversible carbide blades are great. There is a chamfer groove built into the front shoe like on others'.It Does anything any other power plane will do. It's just better because it's cordless. The battery lasts quite a long time. If mine walked off the job tomorrow , I would be ordering a new one the same day.
