5Huge improvement over Scotts spreaders
By R. J. DAMATO
For some time I have been looking to upgrade from my Scotts broadcast spreaders (2), because they are difficult to push evenly on my large, sloping lawn and do not spread evenly. The Earthway 2150 while costing much more is well worth it. I can quickly and evenly cover my lawn now. Its large balloon tires are great. The 2150 is very ruggedly built and may outlast me - I need to include it in my will! One does need to calibrate the settings for the specific material being applied as Earthway discusses.

5Made in the USA
By A. Willard
I've examined the packaging, the printed materials that came with it and the spreader itself and nowhere did I find it mentioned that this was made in this country. Thanks to woeful, printed-instructions, a call to EarthWay not only got me back on track but also confirmed that the spreader was built entirely in Indiana. Plan on two-hours for assembly and follow these missing instructions: 1) Don't fully tighten any bolt until the assembly is otherwise done; 2) The absolute last thing that you do is spread the cotter pins; 3) Put the 1-1/2" and the 1-3/4" bolts in separate, well-marked salad bowls; 4) The handle shaft's longer, indented-end faces the spreader hopper (not the handle); and, 6) Grab the band-aids and a beer. My instructions will allow you to finish the assembly a half hour sooner than it would have otherwise. The spreader works fine and Amazon's free-shipping price is a best buy.

5Excellent Spreader!
By David
After using my new Scott's Deluxe Edgeguard spreader once, I returned it for a refund and ordered this spreader. What a huge difference! I'm very happy with this Earthway 2150 spreader and it makes fertilizing the lawn easy and fun. The unit rolls very well, and with it's big pneumatic tires, it easily rolls over my uneven turf. The spreader is built well and I imagine it will last for many years. Assemby was straight forward and went together easily. The spreader comes with a chart for setting the spreader based on the number of pounds to spread per 1000 sq. ft. It does not come with settings for specific brands of fertilizer. The setting control is well calibrated and is easy to adjust. Lastly, the handle can be assembled at different lengths to accomodate different operator heights. This worked great for me, as I am tall and needed the extra handle length to avoid bending forward and causing back pain.

4Almost more of a specialty tool
By J. Venis
While this is a good tool on the whole -- and not too expensive either -- it still isn't for every gardener nor for every purpose in the garden. To remove all doubt, perhaps it should not go without saying that this is not a tool for making hills for melons, squash, or zukes. It will not help you with transplants such as tomatoes, nor will it handle seed potatoes. No, this seeder is for rows of things like beans and corn, and in these cases it shines. I still think, however, that you have to be planting a pretty big garden to make it worth your time to set-up the Earthway seeder, learn to use it, store it, and maintain it.On the pro side, for instance, I used my new Earthway seeder to plant more than 700 row-feet of popcorn. Wow! The Earthway seeder practically paid for itself that day, since it allowed me to plant the entire plot in less than 45 minutes and with no bending over! I also used it to plant plots of field corn, beans, and beets. Here are my notes, for what they're worth:1.) Have freshly tilled, fine, debris-free soil. It is difficult to push the seeder through crusted soil or anything with too many lumps in it, and you won't get those perfectly straight rows if you're struggling just to move forward. Also, too much surface trash will be a problem for the little chain that drags behind and covers the seed. Hint: do "dry runs" with the seeder at the proper depth, but without seed in the bin. This will give you a sense of how well it's going to work before you commit your seed, and it helps to mark your rows in advance too.2.) Have enough seed, and watch the seed plate closely as it turns. If the seed bin gets low, the pockets in the seed plates will often fail to scoop up the seeds in a regular fashion. You'll end up with a lot of skips. Of course, if you're not buying your seed at least ¼ pound at a time, I'm not sure why you'd want this tool anyhow.3.) Select your seed plate carefully, and if needed test it with the seed before use. (Attach a plastic bag under the seeder or something.) For example, I had a limited quantity of small soup beans. I popped in the bean plate and made two rows. Before the end of the second row, however, I was out of seed, which should not have been the case. I didn't figure this out till after the seeds sprouted: that seed plate scooped up those small beans two at a time and double-planted the first row, leaving insufficient seed for the second row.4.) If you are considering the Fert-A-Ply attachment for the seeder, re-think that. I did not realize till the attachment arrived that I could not use it at the same time as I planted -- meaning that it took re-configuring the seeder and another full set of passes to apply an amendment to my rows. Also, the construction and the few moving parts of the attachment are extremely chintzy. I could not get mine adjusted well and used quite a bit more expensive material than I intended.5.) The assumption for the Earthway seeder is that your seed is dry. If you like to soak your seeds before planting, or if you want to wet-innoculate things like green beans before planting, I don't think this is the tool for those cases.6.) I have not tried the seeder with pelleted seeds of any kind, but I bet it would work well for that. Again, pick your seed plate carefully.7.) Of course, straight rows are an advantage for mechanized cultivation equipment in your garden or even for zipping through the rows with a wheel hoe or high-wheel cultivator. Even if you're not obsessive about straight rows, however, this seeder still can be a time- and back-saver.I hope this helps you to make a more informed choice.

5Too awesome for words!
By Amber Dixon
First of all, I'm a gardener from way back. I helped my mom weed her flowers when I was still in the womb. I love garden gadgets and all things bliss-enhancing. When I was a teenager my grandfather bought the first incarnation of the Earthway Precision Garden Seeder and it was love at first shove. Not only does it plow the furrow, it plants the seeds at a precise depth and covers them up, it also marks the next row for you so that your garden doesn't sprout into a psychadelic homage to 1970's acid waves. I love, love, love this little jigger! It clogs from time to time, but if you're watching every perfect little seed get tucked away neatly into it's new earthly bed, you'll catch it before you have to re-plant the entire garden. What took my father and me 2 hours last year to do by hand, we did in under 15 mintues using this little gem. An entire garden planted in 15 minutes! And not only that, but we hand-sowed a 1/4 acre plot of corn in under 25 mintues, stopping to pass off and admire the absolute fantastical spectacle of it all as it was happening. LOVE this thing!

2Not What I Expected
By Mick G.
I have a fairly big garden, so I decided to make my life a little easier next spring, and thus I bought this seeder. However, so far, it's not what I thought I would be getting as far as a truly precision planter is concerned. The seeds dropped irratically and/or popped out of the bin because the plates would bind up then suddenly spring loose. I used different sized plates trying to find that exact match with the same results. I contacted the factory by email (their response was very quick) and was told to use bee's wax and soap to make it work correctly. For the price of the unit, I expected something with less "after-market engineering" required by me to make it funtion as advertised. I refuse to admit defeat, so I'm keeping it and will continue to practice with it until spring. If it or I don't get better, I know where you can get a used one cheap next summer!

5world best vacuum
By D. Piser
I once owened a Eureka Vacuum model # C2094A. When the moter gave up I was beside myself. I went looking for a replacement only to find plastic cheap vacuums, but not cheap in the word cheap, more like over priced gagets. I reseached Amazon only to find the same commerial style vacuum I was use too. The newer model now model G and above still had the same quality as the first model and even a longer cord. Thanks Eureka keep up the good work. Oh by the way I purchased 2 just in case, you know for 20 years later.

5A time-tested winner
By pdever
I just moved into an apartment with a new synthetic carpet that sheds like a pack of afghan hounds; it choked my bagless vacuum in under a minute. I needed a sturdy, no-frills, bagged vacuum like the Montgomery Ward upright I used for over 20 years before it died. This model was almost identical, and now that I've had it for a few weeks, I'm happy as a clam. It has an old-fashioned rotating brush/beater roller, 5 carpet height adjustments, great suction for 5 amps, and comes pre-fitted with a humongous disposable liner bag (type F&G), plus a spare belt for the roller. Some parts that used to be steel have been replaced with thick plastic, but it seems plenty sturdy, and it's much lighter to maneuver and carry than my old all-steel model. The on/off button and lock/unlock for the handle are both on the base, so they're foot controls; carpet height is adjusted by a dial on the front of the base. The long cord (20 feet or so) doesn't retract, you just wind it over hooks on the handle. The spring-attached fabric bag has a full-length zipper, inside which the disposable bag (which fills the cover from end to end) slides on with another spring. Quick, simple. One pass with this puppy picked up enough carpet fluff missed by the bagless to knit a throw rug, but there's still plenty of room left for future dirt. It's also a lot less noisy than my smaller bagless. The only qualm I had in buying this was the lack of attachments for cleaning upholstery & suchlike, but I found an inexpensive accessory kit made for it (crevice tool, round dust brush, upholstery brush, extension tubes, looooong flexible hose) right here on Amazon: the "Electrolux Home Care 60E 6-Piece Deluxe Tool Set," so my joy is complete.Though the image on this page looks rather green, the vacuum is actually jet black, and the bag is a black-white-red random print. It comes in a flat box, minor assembly required. Highly recommended for those who remember how good the old vacuums were, don't want to spend a fortune just to clean their carpets, or are into retro styling.

5A Great Floor Cleaner
By Alan Mefford
It seems now days that everything has to be a Swiss Army Knife. Very few products do just one thing well. This is such a product. It cleans floors, bare or carpeted. I am an engineer and I love the way this vacuum cleaner is designed. Air flow is straight through to a very large bag. Don't get fooled by the 5 amp motor when the big heavy machines have 12 amps. Because of the straight air flow it isn't using power to get the air around corners. through small hoses, and out limited bag area. I have a 12 amp Hover and this Eureka cleans better. The 5 amp motor is also quieter and much lighter. This vacuum weighs only 11 pounds and is very maneuverable. The large area bags do a good job of filtering the air so you get no dust odor. The foot controls on the base for the handle and power are convenient and easy to operate. I guess because this is an old design that has been around a long time, Eureka doesn't advertise it and it is hard to find in stores. Believe me, it is worth looking for.

5great vacuum
By Jamie Payte
My mother has been cleaning houses (including LOTS of vacuuming) for years. She used a model identical to this one for almost 15 years (HEAVY use) and she cried the day it died. I began a frantic search for a replacement immediately. Finally found one here and was thrilled. Received the product quickly and was very excited to discover that the quality was the same as my mother's previous Eureka. Great product!!

5The best -- indeed one of the only -- whole-house window fans on the market these days!
By Pierce Phillips
SUMMARY: 5/5 stars - glad I bought it, would enthusiastically recommend it to friends, and would not hesitate to buy one again-----This Lasko model 2155A window fan - also sold as the Air King model 9155 - is a real blessing for me. I live in the deep South (Georgia) where the oppressive summer heat index (high heat + near-100%-humidity) often reaches into the 130s and above - and I don't have air conditioning. For me, a large whole-house window fan like this one makes all the difference between comfort and living hell when July and August roll around (it's July 27th as I write this, and I'm sitting right next to the window with the fan in it). This is truly a WHOLE-HOUSE window fan, and it costs so much less to operate than an air conditioner. Compared with central A/C, I'm saving over a hundred dollars a month, which is over $600 a year EVERY YEAR. That's money better spent elsewhere! With this high-volume fan, I get my whole house cooled, without the $150+ monthly electricity usage of central A/C. This fan paid for itself in the first month. Also, I've found that as I've gotten used to not having A/C, I enjoy the summers more and I'm not nearly as lethargic and short-tempered when I'm in a place without air conditioning, anywhere from the supermarket parking lot to a cookout. It all makes me wonder, WHY would I pay $150+ per month and end up so dependent on air conditioning that I can't be happy enjoying the great outdoors in the summer?! It's all a question of what your body gets acclimated to.For the hottest summer nights, you can run a little window A/C unit in your bedroom, and still save a bundle because you can use this fan for the rest of the house instead of having to pay the skyrocketing electrical cost of central A/C.PROS:* Cost-efficient to operate - this fan moves 2470 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) on only 90 watts - compare that with the larger 20" model (Air King model #9166) which moves 3560 CFM on 170 watts - an 89% power increase for just a 44% airflow increase...makes sense to just buy two of these 16" Lasko 2155A/Air King 9155 units instead...you get twice the airflow, not 44% more - and you get it for only ten watts more* Moves a LOT of air - more than a 20" box fan, more than anything sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, True Value, the drugstore, or anywhere else I looked* Fused 3-prong grounded safety plug* Versatile installation options* 3 speeds instead of 2 or just on/off* Electrically reversible for intake and exhaust - a big plus, since I want to be able to exhaust hot air during the day and then reverse it to bring in cool air at night...without having to de-install it and manually flip the whole unit around like you do with some other' brands fans (AHEM!)* Quieter compared to the old metal-bladed fans from years past, which sounded like airplane propellers* Made in the USA by our friends and neighbors and fellow countrymen, not in some Chinese sweatshopNEUTRALS:* Construction feels a bit flimsy...everything is plastic, except the interior side's safety grille - BUT, this is basically irrelevant, because after it's in the window, it just sits there, and plastic does just as good a job of sitting in a window as metal. And, on the bright side, it's more lightweight than a metal fan would be, making it easier to install and to store in the attic or basement at the end of the season* Don't expect it to be silent on the highest speed, there is some wind noise...but that's not the fault of the fan, and there's nothing anyone can do about it...moving large volumes of air at a high rate of speed DOES entail noise, no matter what, so you can't fault the fan or the manufacturer for that* Pricey - for nearly-all-plastic construction, and only a 50% (maximum) airflow improvement over an $18 Wal-Mart box fan, I felt that the cost of $50-$100 was a bit high...would rather see it around $35-$40 - BUT, in the end, it DOES move more air than the $18 box fan, and has some features that make it worth the cost (electrically reversible intake/exhaust, less noise, expanding side panels to give it a perfect fit with any size window, fused safety plug, Storm Guard feature, etc.) - and given that there's basically no competition in the field any more due to the prevalence of air conditioning, I can't expect pricing to be at super-low highly-competitive ratesCONS:* Switch knob kept popping off...had to tighten up the screws under it and then put a dab of Krazy Glue on it (but that solved it)* Not widely available in stores - because air conditioners' prices have come down so much in the last 15-20 years, the demand for genuine whole-house window fans has gone way down, meaning that this fan is usually a special-order or online-only item, either of which generally entail waiting times and shipping costs (though your local Grainger branch may have one of the ones relabeled Air King in stock)-----All in all, I am being really unfairly picky here, and I think this is a fabulous product that I sincerely hope doesn't get discontinued. It's the right unit for the job, it looks good, and it does a better (and quieter) job that the all-metal models from years past. It's also very energy-efficient. Of what's available on the market in 2009, it is the best of the best, hands down, nothing else even comes close. I have ZERO "buyer's remorse" about this purchase, and would champion its virtues to anyone considering buying one. A great product!

5Lasko 16" 3-Speed Reversible Window Fan
By Jean Coyle
I've had a lot of window fans before but none have cooled nearly as well as the Lasko 16" window fan. The fan is solidly constructed with sturdy plastic side panels and a easy to turn on/off speed selection knob.Particularly nice is the exhaust feature on this fan, which cleared a smokey kitchen in mere seconds.

5A Good Fan
By A Customer
I purchased this fan 15 years ago and replaced it with another one this past summer because the old one clonked out on me. What I noticed about this new one is it has a different blade from the older model. It is also quieter and more powerful than the older model. I did not bother with the Storm Guard feature of screwing the fan in the window for safety reasons. If in the event of a fire and the window was my only means of getting out, the fan would get in the way. The fan takes up a lot of window space, so if you are one of those people who like your outdoor view, do not purchase this fan. If you want a fan that is powerful and will last for a good number of years, this is the fan for you.

4Good for low ceilings
By JoeB
I've just installed this ceiling fan on a patio with a fairly low roof and it fit well in that space. The blades are only about 9 or 10 inches down from the ceiling.Installation wasn't too difficult but the Neoprene covering around the mounting plate did make it a little difficult to put in the screws. The fan did not wobble even on the highest speed and it did put out a fair amount of breeze on high.It was not as much breeze as an industrial metal fan but it is acceptable for its location. The color depicted in the pictures on this page (as of May 15 2006) is not the color of this fan. It is more of a reddish-bronze brick color. The blades on this fan are plastic with a wood finish instead of real wood. For me that's good because I wanted it for outside and the plastic blades should hold up well.

5Perfect for the Porch
By D. Thomas
I love Hunter Fans! This one was a replacement for an older model that was damaged by a contractor. This fan is easy to install, whisper quiet, and looks great. I installed this fan on my screened porch, and it has been providing us with quiet cool all summer long. One thing to note - since it is made for outdoor installation, the fan has a visible white rubber gasket that sits between the ceiling and the fan's collar to keep water from getting down into the fan. If you don't like the way the gasket looks and your installation is not truly outside, you don't have to install the gasket. Overall, a great fan that mounts flush with the ceiling. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a flush-mount fan for outdoor installation. Well worth the money, so go ahead and take the plunge!

5good fan
By Todd Chapman
This is a nice looking, well made fan. I was concerned about buying this, or any other fan, because I have a sloped ceiling (only 1.5" in 12") and I couldn't tell from specs whether this would mount with the short down-rod (supplied) properly on a pitched ceiling. I wanted to use the short downrod due to limited ceiling height. No problem - the fan mounted fine with the short rod. It is quiet & moves air well - I am using in a 3 season porch 12x20.
