Digital Wood Moisture Meter

I have found this tool to be very accurate. The ability to specify the wood (I.E.-ash,redoak,etc.) makes this tool more accurate. Because you have to enter the code for a particular type of wood you must have the manual handy, unless you limit yourself to a few types and just memorize what you need. It fits the hand or pocket for portability when you go out to buy wood.

I have used two different meters. Both with pins. The Wagner is far easier to use. I can check several pieces of like wood in seconds. Has a far better cart to converts measurements. And one so you can look up woods that are not in the charts. Comes with a nice case too.

Good, Consistent Moisture Meter

We have used a Wagner L606 analog moiture meter in our siding finishing factory for about 8 years now. It recently began to malfunction - was probably dropped. We decided to try another brand of meter which cost a little less. It did not give consistant readings, and we returned it immediately - possibly damaged or out of calibration. I spoke to customer service at Wagner which was very helpful in helping me determine that the model we have used is probably the best model for our needs, so I ordered a new one which has worked perfectly.The meter is simple to operate - no additional calibration buttons or switches visible that an inexperienced employee would try to adjust or change modes. The needle is easy to read and is very steady. It has a non-invasive surface reading pad - there are no pin marks left in the wood. It consistently reads the same as our other pin-type meters, and works well on cement siding too (not true mositure % on cement though). We can take more readings per board since there are no pin marks.Wagner has digital reading models; some that record data; models that switch substrate species, and some with other features. The L606 is simple enough to use, durable, and extremely accurate which works best for us.

Great for leak detection

I know there are probably cheaper ones out there, but I used this to find and trace leak paths in homes. I wanted something that would also work for actual woodworking projects as well, so I went with this unit. Have not been disappointed.

The hole saw kit for all your odd jobs.

If you're an electrician or a plumber you will already know how valuable a hole saw set like this is. I was skeptical as to how good this would be. Once I started using it though, I realized that it was just like every other product I have ever used with the Milwaukee name on it, superb. If you need a hole saw kit and want to but it online this is the one to buy.

pricey, but works great

This is an expensive way to drill a hole, but it works great. It cuts fast and really is self feeding once it digs in. Plus it can be resharpened. If you have a lot of holes to drill use one of these paired with a high torque drill-much better than spade bits, which quickly wear out or hole saws, which can bottom out after a couple of inches. I like the Dewalt self-feed bits slightly more because they have two cutters and seem to work a little faster with less effort.

Spend the extra few bucks and get the Mwkee 5540

This is a very nice polisher. Their is nothing wrong with it. The reason why I suggest the Milwaukee model 5540 polisher instead, even though it is a few more dollars, is because it polishes up to 2800 RPM's. 1750 is usable for a lot of purposes, but 2400 is where you want to be for the ultimate gloss in catalyzed urethanes or old world leaded lacquers. (They took the lead out years ago, and their went the glass like gloss, so next day polishing on catalyzed urethanes is the mile deep club) I had a body shop for 20 years, did a lot of high-end cars. Spend a zillion hours behind a polisher. Had a multi step polishing procedure. First you wet sand the car with 600 grit or 800 grit wet dry sandpaper. Then you use a true silky smooth tie on lambs wool bonnet and Dupont 606 hand application compound. (The secret is after going over the car the first time with the 606S compound, put on a fresh lambs wool bonnet, and go over the car a second time. It is amazing how it improves the gloss. That way you have a true polished surface to build your protection on. Then use liquid ebony to eliminate the swirl marks, then Maguire's machine glaze, and then hand glaze. People couldn't help but come over and ask you about the finish on the car. Three new bonnets are required) Anyhow, 1750 rpm's didn't do something, like warm up the finish enough to give you mind blowing gloss. The 5540 gives you up to 2800 RPM's with a speed setting dial, so you can tweak it in to the desired speed, which is 2400 for, automotive. By the way the owners manual, which is available here at Amazon at this listing, and the listing on the 5540 as well shows you that the hook and loop pad is available as an option, with several different types of pads, depending on the application you are using. Milwaukee makes great equipment, and no matter which model you choose, it is a nice piece for your arsenal. I just think the 5540 is worth the extra money, because of the increased capacity into an area that includes automotive level of finishing. Hope this helps.

Heavy duty and well balanced

When you what a polisher with some guts this is the one. Having been a Millwaukee fan since my first hole shooter drill, I expect a lot from each product I buy from them. This polisher is no exception. You can put a nice buff on a wax job with a light touch, or you can grind off 10 years of oxidation with rubbing compound and a firm application. The Millwaukee just keeps on working, staying cool in your hands and not bogging down. Costs a little more to buy this quality at first, but down the road these tools are always a bargin.

A nice, heavy-duty machine

I compared this with the Makita 9227-c side by side. The Milwaukee is a good deal beefier and I'm confident it will run all day long if I ask it to. Note one difference is the Makita has a hook and loop (velcro) disk if you are for or against that. The Milwaukee has a plain rubber disk. I don't know if H&L is an option or not.

I use this for final buff-out of high gloss lacquer furniture finishes and it works great.

A nice feature is that the back has a "stand" of sorts, so you can lay the tool down securely without contaminating the bonnet. Also nice is the twist-lock cord that helps prevent breaking the conductors at the point where it leaves the tool. I have this problem with other tools that require a sharp bend to get them back in their cases.

This is variable speed, with a dial, so all you do is dial in the speed and pull the trigger switch. The speed dial is conveniently located at thumb-tip above the trigger.

Best Self Feeding Hole Saw Ever

I only have two of the Milwaukee Contractor's bits and I love them, I will buy this set soon. I use them for cutting the many holes required to run house electrical and plumbing. They are perfect for the hard to reach out of position holes that you can't push on a auger bit to cut through. They will eat their way though the center of a tree with a 3' extension.

Since they are self feeding they will not stop untill you let off the trigger and you need a reverse on the drillmotor to back them out of deep holes. Chips will back up and plug deep holes so use the reverse and clear out the chips on deep holes.

Great kit

Even though I do mostly electrical, buying this kit was beneficial because it includes all but one bit that I needed, which I purchased separately. Extra center self feed bits are included to replace the primary ones if you should somehow break or wear one done. Although that hasn't happened to me yet. The case is great to keep the bits organized, clean, and most importantly dry.

30 years with this machine.

Okay, so I am on my second. But only because I sold the first along with the business it started. I first bought it with about 5 minutes deliberation as I faced cutting some difficult roots to make room for a foundation. Hadn't ever seen one before that day. Cut those roots out post haste and I've never been without it. There are times when only this saw will work. Once, I cut a house in half in half a day with one so I could save $1000 on the house mover's bill. I know that other manufacturers make good reciprocating saws, and frankly I don't know if they are better. I figure that once you get to trust a tool why change. Now the one I got now is the 'same ol' Sawzall' like the proverbial 'same ol' hatchet' -- had three new handles and two new heads, but it's the same ol' one. That's because Milwaukee designed it to be fixed. I can tear it down, replace the parts and have it running in 10 minutes. Sort of like that carbine from way past. Sentimental? Nope. There's a few things I like better -- my money and my time. I'll just stick with this one.

The standard that all others are compared to

This saw works for me. Twelve years, so far, in the electrical contracting business. It did need some bearing work after 11 years. Its not the most powerful or the one with the longest stroke. Its not the beast that the Tiger Saw is but for the price, you can not beat it.

Old faithful with a few improvements

One of my guys has an old and I mean old version of this saw. It has no variable speed. No rubber grip. In fact the whole thing is metal, even the handle. The motor is only four amps but it still cuts like it did 40 years ago. Now you get the same exact mechanism with a more powerful motor, Variable speed, a rubber grip and quick loc blade clamp. I like the 10 amp super sawzall better ( It has a lot less vibration, a longer stroke and a lot more power and I like the orbital one even more.) But if you don't mind a cut taking a few extra minutes here and there, you can't go wrong with this saw. I beleive that it will outlast any other saw from any company including Milwaukee. It's nothing to see one that has been in daily service for 20 or 30 years. No other saw I know of has even been on the market that long. It must be a good tool or how could they give it a LIFETIME warranty. Where else are you going to get that?
