Freud 99-519 3-1/2-Inch Raised Panel Bit Product Description:

  • 2+2 raised panel bit
  • Two wings to do the main cutting of the profile
  • Two wings to cut the top part of the profile

Product Description

Application: Ideal for creating raised panels for doors and paneling, as well as decorative tops, plaques and molding.

Available in two carbide heights:
Use 1/2'' height for 5/8'' stock.
Use 5/8'' height for 3/4'' stock.

Cuts all composition materials, plywoods, hardwoods, and softwoods. Use on table-mounted portable routers.

Freud's Quadra-Cut Router Bits Feature an Exclusive 4 Cutter Design!
For the cleanest finish for routing the edges of hard or soft wood, woodworkers can look to Freud's new Quadra-Cut router bits. These unique, patented bits employ four cutting edges, versus the industry standard of two, for a flawless finish on the most delicate of materials.

Two of the carbide cutters have an upshear angle to remove most of the stock. Then the pair of downshear cutters make a final cut to produce an ultra clean edge.

Industry standard bits that only have two cutters can leave fuzz and splinters on the top surface, especially in cross grain cuts, but Freud's new Quadra-Cut bits leave a surface that requires no sanding or rework.

5The best
By Joel Rawson
Freud's 2+2 raised panel bits are the best out there. Panels require very little sanding, there is absolutely no chiping on the face, very time saving. I run a on-site buisiness that requires me to use a router table and every time I use these bits, I know the panel will come out clean. Joel Rawson, Rawson Woodworks

4Cuts Great, But throws Chips
By C. Oberg
I've decided that I will always buy Freud router bits because I've always liked them, and this bit is no exception. Right from the start this bit cut beautifully. I turned my router speed down to about 11,000 rpm because of the bit size and tested this on a piece of pine. The cut was perfectly clean with no chip out and no burning. I really like the Quadra Cut technology but with a bit this size, it tends to throw a good amount of chips all over the place, regardless of how good your dust collection is. No really a big deal to be honest, it just means a little more clean up. Overall this is an excellent bit that has given me great results several times now.

5unbeatable joints

simply the strongest joints possible and absolutely essential if you want to end-join two boards. Makes virtually seamless connections when done properly.

5My workshop won't ever be the same
By Yves Chaix
The bit uses two set of knives one tooth offset from the other. It took quite a bit of setup for the router to do the two finger joints. Basically, you have to create a (wood, plastic) shim, 2.1mm thick and put it under each piece that you will joint. That is, the first pass will give you the left profile, if you look at Freud's image for the joint, below the image of the bit, then turn the piece around horizontally, put the shim underneath it and you get the right-hand profile. They will match perfectly and will only need a slight shaving pass (plane or thicknesser) and you will have a beautiful end grain-to-end grain joint. And actually quite elegant too! Enjoy!

3Definite Purpose - but not mine.
By Steve L. Rude
This bit certainly does what it says and does a nice job. It makes a finger joint but, as the picture shows, the outside edges on the one side get to be a feathered edge that is so thin it does not allow for planing or sanding of those serfaces without tiny pieces falling away. There is no question that the joint would be strong but it should be used only where the edge as you see it in the picture is showing, not the flat or face side (as if looking down from the top or up from the bottom in the picture). In other words it is for end-to-end joining of pieces the thickness of the bit only. It does not work as a glue joint for gluing up panels, i.e. gluing up boards side to side, which is what I purchased it for.In my ignorance I thought that is what it was for and my only reason for giving it a low grade is that I am disappointed that I had to spend so much money to find out that I should have purchased the Reversable Glue Joint bit.Freud should say that the Finger Joint Bit is not a glue joint bit for making panels where the feather edge will show. It does not work for that and it seems the explanation should point someone to the other bit if you are making panels. Nothing wrong with the bit, just the purpose should be explained. So I will try to say it again another way, the finger joint does not work for gluing small pieces together to make a wider board, like for raised panel doors. It is for making narrow, short boards into narrow longer boards. It is not for making narrow boards wider.

5Impressive router bit
By Handy Bob
I bought this to round the endgrains of a fair number of pieces of pine on edge, planed down to exactly 1" by 2" for a large model, and used it on a Bosch 1617 2 hp on a Bosch RA1181 table. The performance was flawless. The bit is 2.5" in diameter, 7.85" in circumference. If you run this at the max speed (25,000 RPM) of the Bosch 1716, the outer edge travels at almost 196,349 inches per minute, or about 185 miles/hour! Not quite Mach 1, but a lot faster than needed or safe. I used a speed at what seemed like 15,000 RPM (the Bosch router does not have an RPM calibrated dial) and the bit made clean cuts, even in end grain (several pieces clamped together) at moderate feed speeds.I have the little sister bit, 3/4" rounding over, 1/2" shank, and it has gotten a lot of use and it has stayed very sharp with minimal pitch build-up.Be aware of the size of this bit. Your table or base needs to have an opening larger then the 2.5" diameter. One of my tables does not, and none of my bases do.

2bearing threads stripped
By William F Ticineto
This cuts very clean but after less than 40 hours of use the threads that hold the bearing stripped. The bearing fell off, needless to say the cut went deep and ruined the piece. I have to contact Freud for warranty/replacement, one day late for the Amazon return.

5Freud LU84R012 12 inch ATB combination saw blade
By Daniel Smith
I feel that other woodworkers can benefit from my 30+ years of "Heirloom Quality" woodwork experience- when I find a product that saves myself & my clientele cost (as well as time) I want anyone that can save the "headache" & the $ I go through to narrow down the best products for our woodworking "art"-Freud always has been a leader in saw blades(my experience) for the $ spent as well as the time used to change a blade, this combination blade provides a wonderful solution to rip, cross cut & miter all in one blade(make sure you keep it clean from pitch) the carbide teeth are very well attached & have a lot of "meat" for future sharpening- although not a thin kerf blade(I don't like" thin" when the grain can twist the blade) I have several of these blades (it's 70+ miles to bring my blades to be sharpened,1 way) they work very well for what ever species of wood your working w/ just don't let them load up w pitch, long lasting & Amazon has a good price- if your as far away from a woodworker supply store or hardware store- use the "Prime" membership-it saves me lots of gas @ 14 mpg- enjoy what you do & it's not work, it's stress relief

5so good
By Cate Swan
I finally replaced the blade on my monster Hitachi chop saw. Since it had served me so well (many years of use plus two buildings) I wanted to put on the same blade which turned out to be this Freud blade. Let me say that I employed this blade much longer than I should have (teeth were missing. Yikes!) but it was still giving me remarkably clean cuts. Three power tools now have Freuds and it's made a world of difference on my skillsaw and my table saw. How nice to have something made Italy instead of the ubiquitous China, Taiwan, etc. There are some good products coming out of the aforesaid countries, but why not spread it around a little bit. And I do have a Taiwanese bench grinder made in 1980 that has proved to be quite the trouble free work horse. OK, I know, that was 1980.
