4Excellent start for product design
By Daniel J Dravis
I have over 15 years experience with drywall, so I'm not new to this. I agonized over spending this much money on a sander for a couple years. Yes, it's been available that long. But, I'm getting older and the back and shoulders don't like hand sanding on ceilings and I have yet to perfect the "sponge" method.

Regardless, I purchased the P-C sander and a box of 150 grit pads. If I didn't like it, I could sell it on "auctions". After one large room, I was pleased. I will agree with some other reviewers that you can make plenty of swirl marks. That's the first thing I did. The second thing I did was to spend 5 minutes playing with it to figure out how NOT to make swirl marks. It really isn't that hard. It is much faster than hand sanding and virtually no dust. My customers love that part!! (I do alot of remodelling jobs). If you do a good job mudding, there should be minimal sanding to do anyway.

This sander will NOT do inside corners. Based on its design, it can't get any closer than about 3/4" to the actual corner. Know up front that you will still need to touch up the inside corners. This sander is primarily for large relatively flat surfaces, and in my opinion it does a good job when used properly.

The other thing that P-C should work on is the weight. I know we all carry around tools that weigh more than 8 pounds. Try holding it over your head for any length of time though. While it is balanced nicely, 8 lbs. is still 8 lbs.

You also don't need to spend "money" on the vacuum either. (Sorry P-C) My QSP shop vac with a Cleanstream/Gore-tex filter($22) works just fine.

The 13' hose means you can put the vacuum in the center of a room and not have to move the vacuum, just walk around and sand.

So, don't look for mine on "auctions". It's staying in my toolbox.

5PC 7800 is a winner!
By R. Cook
I am 60 years old and building our third and last home. We have just finished tapeing and bedding a kitchen and two baths and have found the sanding to be almost effortless with the PC 7800. We liked the hoop and hook 150 and 220 discs because they are so easy to change without tools. Get plenty of the 220 discs - they do not affect the paper as you are feathering in the taped joints and nail or screw bedding. We connected it to our 20 gallon shop vac and the suction almost holds the tool to the walls and ceiling. A smooth orbital motion takes care of any sanding, and then a touchup with a sanding block in the corners (1/2 inch out) finishes a room very quickly. What a pleasure to buy a tool and have it work as advertised. Thanks Porter Cable - and the other reviewers that convinced us to make the purchase!

5The next best thing to someone else doing it for you
By L. Angelo
I read a lot of reviews before buying the PC drywall sander. Needless to say, this is the best drywall tool purchase I've ever made, and the bursitis in my arms and shoulders think so, too. Being a remodeler and also doing repairs for several property managers, this makes for quick, easy, and clean work. I just attach it to my 8-gal. shop-vac equipped with a drywall dust bag, and a cleanstream filter as a secondary backup, there's almost no dust at all. It took some getting used to, but once I got the hang of it, it leaves very little swirl marks. Like some of the other reviewers said, don't push it and let the machine do the work. Since I haven't hung more than 40 4x12's in any one job, I've been using No-Coat to tape the inside corners and while it costs a bit more, it saves time because I can stay away from the corners, for the most part. What little hand sanding I do after the final coat, I use a hand or pole sander that attaches to a vac; found them at the local Grabber dealer. All in all, this is one tool that is worth every penny.

4Fantastic Lightweight Hammer
By A Customer
I recently re-ordered this hammer (my first one rode home with someone I don't know). I liked that one so much, I had to get another. I am a west coast Union carpenter, and Ti hammers are seen more and more often on job sites these days. I had to go back to an old 25 oz. hammer after my last Stilletto was stolen, and WOW, what a difference! I chose this hammer for many reasons, but here are a few you might consider: 1) it's light weight will save your body from wear and tear, 2) the smooth face, combined with the weight allow this hammer to be used for finish work, as well as framing (and it won't mash your fingers), 3) that magnetic nail holder comes in very handy and 4)I mean, come on, Titanium...it's just so cool. The only drawback to this hammer is it's tendency to ring like a tuning fork. You might find yourself reaching for earplugs if you don't already wear them. Other than that, it's simply a shame to think that you'll be using this beautiful tool in a manner that will (hopefully after many, many years) leave it worn and scarred. But when that time comes, at least you'll still be able to move your arm without pain.

5Husband Won't Use Anything But This Hammer
By Mom of Two
My husband has been swinging a hammer as a residential carpenter for almost 20 years. He builds them from the ground up - no weekend warrior here. He had heard about this light weight hammer and wanted to try it out. After giving it a go at work, he won't ever go back to the "other" kind. When you're swinging a hammer all day long, you don't want heavy. He bought it several years ago, and while he's gone through a couple of the wood handles, the hammer head is still going strong. Many of the guys my husband works with have converted to this hammer as a result of using his a couple times. These are guys who use a hammer for a living, so I think that's a reasonable endorsement.

4Fun to Swing
By pj hitchcock
After using this hammer every day for a few weeks, I don't ever want to pick up that famous blue handled hammer I used to swing! Despite the handle coming loose soon after I started using it, I still wouldn't give it up. (A quick call to the manufacturer and a new handle was on its way at no cost to me) The magnetic slot to start nails with is the envy of the rest of the crew at work. I thought it was kinda gimmicky at first but not anymore. This is a great product. I hope you find the review helpful in making the pricey investment.

3Had to try it!
By Christopher A. Bieker
After hearing the titanium hype for over a year, I had to get one. After using it for a couple of months, I havn't had any problems. It still takes a few more hits to drive larger nails. I like my 25oz. steel hammer for heavy framing. I like using the Stilletto for white pine and sheet goods. It sure is a conversation piece on the job sites, but probably not worth the extra money(at least to me).

5unbelievable hammer
By nicola
Finally submitted and decided to buy a decent hammer after 15yrs as a carpenter. 1st option, i bought a Douglas 20oz framer which was a massive disapointment!!!! the handle was rough and the head was wonky!!!! Now i own a Stiletto 14oz titanium hickory handled framer and it still amazes me everyday i lift it out the bag. Everyone who has tried it is so suprised. At first i wasnt sure whether to believe the hype, after all, a hammer is just a hammer right? WRONG. I will never buy any other type of claw/framing hammer as long as i live. Stiletto customer for life. xxx

Product Description

If you're used to a standard 16-ounce claw hammer, this lightweight titanium hammer from Stilletto will make you feel like Popeye after he's had his can of spinach. This beauty has a graceful curve in its hickory handle that's ergonomically better for swinging--a small modification that makes a gigantic difference. It weighs only 14 ounces, but it drives like the big boys. We liked the magnetized nail groove, because it helps prevent hitting fingernails. The manufacturer says this is the world's first titanium-head hammer, and if that's true, there are sure to be copycats. The only word of caution: titanium has a million merits, but be aware that it will spark if chipped.

5at 14oz. hammer feels to light, but works like a Dream!
By Craig Young
When I first saw this hammer the look on my face must have said volumes, I thought, "gee nice looking hammer, but what is it good for, it is so light I can't imagine having to actually pound nails with it". My partner smiled and said give it a try, then make your decision. After the first hour of using the Stilleto Titanium framing hammer I was impressed, at the end of the first day I wouldn't give it up at any price. I still don't know how it works, but I can drive 16's as fast (by the 2nd. half of the day, actually faster) than I could with the 24oz. Hart California Framer that I had used prior to the Stilleto. The real advantage in my opinion, is the reduction in stress upon the users elbow joint due to the much lighter weight of the hammer. The only draw back that I have noticed in the 1 yr. that I have been using the Stilleto is that the titanium rip claws tend to develope nicks when using them to pull bent nails, also using the hammer against hardened steel tools like pullers and ripping bars quickly dulls the milled face (however the face checkering was never as pronounced as the Hart or Death Stick framers). The nail set magnet and seat work exceptionally well for setting 8d and up nails in top plates or other hard to reach areas. All in all I wouldn't use any other hammer for day to day framing, but keep your old heavy weight framer for demolition work.

5One helpful hammer
By Christopher Kennel
I'm a remodel carpenter and use the Stiletto hammer just about every day. Here's why I like it:

The 18-inch hatchet handle is very comfortable and provides a long reach. This is especially helpful when roofing or in other precarious situations because it means that I can drive nails and hit or pry wood members without changing my position as much. The long reach, combined with the magnetized nail holder, make it easy to place nails in overhead beams (up to about 9 feet high; I'm 6'2") without having to use a ladder.

In addition to pulling nails, the ultra-straight, chisel-sharp claws can be jammed into pieces of wood and leveraged to help position them when using a nail gun with your other hand. When the lumber company delivers wood bundles to our worksites, I use the claws to cut right through the metal straps that bind the wood together. It takes one or two well placed whacks. I actually use the claws more for non-nail-pulling activities because I carry a cat's paw for nail pulling (I often use a nail gun, so most nails get driven so deeply into the wood that no hammer alone would be able to get a start on them).

The light weight of titanium gives the hammer a larger head size than it would have if it were steel. Because the hammer is light and very well-balanced, it's comfortable to use all day as other reviewers have noted. It also makes the hammer easier to control with greater precision because it takes less effort to swing. I've found that my hammering accuracy has improved with the Stiletto. I also like the fact that it doesn't weigh down my tool belt very much.

Lastly, the hammer's milled face is rough enough to grip nails but not so aggressive that it'll ruin any metal tools that you happen to strike with it. It also is much gentler on the fingers than some of the other milled-faced hammers on the market.

This isn't a hammer for demolition though, and I keep a small sledgehammer in my toolbox for the times when a little more persuasion is needed. For framing, the Stiletto performs very well, and I've found it to be worth the higher price.

2Ok hammer in general
By Eric Richardson
I have wanted the Stiletto titanium hammer for about 2 years and finally I received as a gift. I read all of the reviews on the hammer and one concerned me. John Crawford reviewed it on October 30, 2000. He wrote that it is a cool hammer to nail nails but not to pull nails. He broke the handle after the third or forth nail. He's right, I didn't even have mine on the job for two days. I pulled a couple nails with it and then nailed a 16d nail and the head broke off. The handle is way to thin which goes into the head. Don't get me wrong I fell in love with the hammer the first day but to be a every day framing hammer not a hammer to have. I had to break out old faithfull, my Estwing. I still have my old $15.00 framing hammer when I first started in construction over 10 years ago. If they can figure out to make the handle stronger then the Stiletto is a must have.

5Very high quality.
By Cheetokhan
I have the open stand version of this planer. I have had one of these for about 3 years now and it has proven to be extremely dependable. I was using a Delta portable/benchtop planer before I got the Jet. I wanted a more powerful planer but it had to be light enough for me to move it around without help. This Jet planer was the perfect choice. It is easy to roll around in my shop and it is just tall enough that if I need to take it somewhere, I can just tilt it over and slide it right in the back of my truck. I am a hobyist not a pro so I don't use it every day but considering how well it is built and how quiet it runs, I don't think it would have any trouble in daily use. I would guess I have planed between 500 and 1000 board feet of oak, cherry, pine, cedar, poplar, and others. Generaly taking 15/16" lumber down to 3/4" sometimes down to 1/2". Also made a few hundred linear feet of trim for a friends house. The original knives are still in it, running fine. The molding knives for the Sears molder/planer will fit in this planer. If you need portability but want more power than the benchtop units, this is the tool to get. Being able to make molding is just kind of a nice fringe benifit for me, I would have gotten it even if it didn't do molding.

5Can't get it, Make it.
By Brett Leonardo
I have the closed stand model and love it. I'm a contractor and was doing a reno job for a customer and had to match existing molding that is not available any more. I made a profile of the molding and sent it out to have costom knifes made. The moldings I made were perfect and I was able to make a few extra bucks for making them. I also made 12 inch beveled cedar clap board for a different job, I had to, all the wood mills I called said they couldn't help me. You may not use the machine all the time but when you do, it's worth its weight in gold. I found if you set up supports about two feet from the infeed and outfeed rollers the snipe you get is minimal.

5A Great Machine for the Price
By A Customer
I purchased this machine as an upgrade in my shop from a bench type planer. Initially, I thought I would like to buy a larger planer, but have found the thirteen inch capacity to be more than sufficient for my needs. The machine planes efficiently, and thickness settings are accurate upon initial calibration. Changing thickness is easily accomplished without the effort required for many smaller planers. The machine is sufficiently heavy to support large boards during planing, and the built in retractable wheels are wonderful, allowing easy relocation of the machine in the shop and good stability for planing while they are in the raised position. The infeed and outfeed roller supports are easily adjusted and well constructed. When properly set up they virtually eliminate snipe. When coupled with a dust collection system, the built in dust hood removes virtually all the chips. I am impressed! This is an exceptional machine for the price!

This is a good item to help with long or wide pieces of lumber when you are working by yourself. The only problem I have is that I cannot get it to fold up as advertised. I bought two of them and neither will fold.

5great tool and helping hand,
By B D
I wanted some thing in the wood shop for helping around the table saw and wood planer,at one time years ago, I had two narrow benches that I used round about the table saw, that worked well, but they took up room and when I moved they had to be stored out side for a time and became unusable, but since they were only one height not suitable for the planer,OK I wanted a replacement unit, I had a single rollers on stands and either was knocking it over or it would get knocked at a angle and try to pull the lumber off straight,I saw this roller table, and said that is the deal, I saw a few lower cost units, but via a advertised outside site on amazon here, I ordered two of the units, at first I thought the legs may be a little light, (and maybe they are) but the unit is light enough to move easily by your self, the legs fold up, out of the way for storage, and there is only one adjustment to do on each end, (the others rollers had each leg to set and lock), one other features they have is a taper locking in the leg, there is a small taper and one does not need to gorilla crank it down to hold, as it wedges into rather than slip or work it way lower, I put a marker pen mark on the leg for quick adjustment on the table saw, and one for the basic planer hight,I have used for 4x8 sheet goods, and for long lumber at the table saw, and on the planer, (just did over 500 bf of rough lumber and was wonderful,I would buy again and recommend it to others they do take up room but by being a long unit they are easy to line up with the tool sight down and align with the miter gage or table of the planer and the lumber rides nice and does not pull do to setting at an angle, so much safer to have some thing that will catch the lumber exiting your table saw, all one has to do is guide the lumber through the saw, not having to counter balance it as well, alos long enough to support a 4x8 sheet coming out of the saw, (may need two for the width of a 4 x 8 sheet goods),
