The 6300 series nicad batteries are not as cost effective as the newer 9300 nimh batteries, which, although about 33% costlier, take up a 65% greater charge and are, otherwise, completely interchangeable with the 6300.

3I don't know why people are bitching
By zigzagg
If you have 9.6 tools, and I have a number of them, you need this battery. Simple as that. Is it the best in the world? No. Does it run the tool? Yes. Is it still available after all these years? Yes. End of discussion.

5Old style works for me
By Lou R.
The old Makita set keeps going, and I like the feel of the drill, so a new battery makes sense. The NiCad seems to be just as good as the newer NiMh battery I have, and will charge in the old charger. I do admit my new Panasonic drill has much more power, but is heavier. 5Can't go wrong
By A Customer
It's a great tool. Seems to deliver plenty of variable power and the batteries last plenty of time. (I'm surprised by the earlier reviewers experience.) I went to 2 different Home Depot's and both salesmen recommended the Makita. Another friend was endeared to DeWalt, but admitted that most salesmen he talked to also recommended the Makita. The main reason is that it's easier to change the gears, or something like that. But you'll probably have no problems, as it's an obviously well made tool with all of the important features. Consumer Reports also rated it high. I'm certainly no tool expert, yet this tool is great for the do-it-yourselfer doing odd jobs around the house. The main dilemma is whether 9.6 volts is enough, or 12 or 14.4. Also, I wish the tool would have a lower profile (i.e. able to get into smaller areas), but that problem is endemic among all other tools in its class.

5Ultimate Tool for the TV Remodeling Addict
By A Customer
Creme de la Creme of Cordless Screwdriver/Drills. Balance and weight at optimum. Higher voltage products seem clubby. Infinite speed control. Especially low speed for starting fasteners & drill bits accurately. Has the high speed for small bits and drywall fasteners. Batteries really have a lot of punch, and recharge quickly. The flash light makes all others obsolete. It has a Buzillion foot lumburts for the foggiest mid-life eyeballs. It actually stands up and STAYS where you piont it. A third hand for sure!

3THINK TWICE
By Buddha's Ghost
Makita has taken a step in the right direction with their new generation of drill, namely the contoured comfort and balance. There is a big "HOWEVER" to take notice of. I've owned one of these drills for well over a year and use it extensively on a daily basis. Problem 1: The new batteries just don't live up to their reputation. Their charge is short lived and when it drains ,man does it go fast.____Problem 2: The torque setting switch on the top of the drill grows weak after some usage, allowing it to fall out of it's setting and causing clutch slippage. I've witnessed this on at least three of these style drills. NO GOOD!________Problem 3:And lastly for the drill, the chuck shaft gets loose and sloppy after it gets a few miles on it. Makita needs some further development on this item to make it worthy of their old style drills. And not to forget the flashlight, it's not bad and my only gripe is the fact that after awhile the adjustable pivot head gets loose allowing the electrical contacts inside to intermittently "not contact" causing the light to cut on and off. For infrequent use this set is an okay buy with a good price, but if you want a drill for frequent usage look elsewhere.

4Big enough to be useful, small enough for precise work...
By J. Winter
If you have read many of these tool reviews, you'll notice many seem to be spec-fights between brands rather than real-life use reviews, I've learned from experience to ignore this stuff. In the end, what really counts, to me, is whether the company is still making reliable, heavy-duty tools in the type of tool I'm considering. I don't like to take stuff back, either.I bought this Makita cordless saw in reconditioned form, used it for many hard jobs, without breakdowns of any kind. If I had, I wouldn't hesitate to switch brands - instantly - but I don't change just for the sake of it, and I have seen what happens to tool 'guinea pigs' - I let someone else take the first plunge. This Makita has a 6 1/2-inch blade, a nice size for an 18-volt motor, large enough for much ordinary framing work, but small enough for trim work, precision cuts, and working in confined areas. The saw has the usual big Makita motor, great cooling, ball bearings, a well-made aluminum foot, and a quality blade. Out of laziness, I have used it on a few harder and repetitive cuts really calling for my Skilsaw and have been very impressed.I have given this Makita saw 4 stars instead of 5 only because it came with one Ni-Cad battery - the lack of a second battery limits its utility quite a bit for prolonged work. There are newer kits with Ni-MH batteries and chargers, of course. I simply bought another recon'd Makita 18v drill and got two new Ni-MH batteries in the bargain, which solved the problem nicely.I can't review Makita's warranty/repair service because I've never, ever needed it with any of their cordless drills or saws, which is about the best warranty any tool maker could provide. Isn't that what it's all about?

3could be better
By Gary R. Evarts
When i received the saw the first thing I noticed was the dust that covered the case. Next was the warranty card was for the 1990's, I emailed the seller with my concerns and he answered that I could return the tool if I had any trouble with it. Sounds fair to me. I've only used the saw twice,it has more than enough power and ,so far the battery is fine. The one thing that suprised me was the second time I took the saw out of the case I found 2 of the screws that hold on the base laying in bottom of the case. I have never had a fastner loose on any makita tool before this. Time will tell.

5Elegant, powerful, reliable, ergonomically correct
By edfan
I have the 14.4v version of this tool. It uses nearly all the same parts. I've trimmed 30 solid hardwood door frames made of 1.75" thick teak with the 14.4v circular saw using the same carbide blade that comes with this kit and it never flagged for a moment.I have an 18v Makita combo kit which includes practically every tool including the reciprocating saw. To be honest, the 18v line feels a bit heavy. Lithium might be my next Makita kit, to save weight on batteries.I have confidence in this whole line of tool though. Makita has done a good job. They feel good in the hand, the batteries are highest quality, the charger goes and goes and is versatile enough to charge all Makita batteries and they use better materials than most major American brands. If you open the case on their tools, you see beefier motors too.You can't go wrong but unless you need to cut more than 90 2x4s in one session, a second battery for a 14.4v set would do the same job as buying a longer lasting 18v. That's really the main difference, not the amount of power you bring to the job. This is a really high quality line.

5Knack Gang Box knocks
By A Customer
If this newer model is anything like the knacks of old then they are well worth the money for the professional...the door handle has been recessed which should work nicely for transport,(mine always gets bent because it protrudes), especialy along side other boxes or equipment....front access locks are a big improvement over earlier models...this allows you to line up boxes tight and still get to the lock...hopefully the gas door cylinders offer more help to lift the lid...(older models were a little weak)....All in all they are and have been a high quality product that can stand up to rough everyday use...

5Knaack 69 Storagemaster
By FLVarga
Knaack's storage boxes are superb and this one is no exception. There is enough room for at least a dozen power tools and a few hand tools as well. The top shelf is great for boxes of screws and other small items. It rolls through 36" doors with just a bit to spare. The top is a little too high to use as a work surface with the casters installed though. Over all the Knaack 69 Storagemaster Jobsite Storage Chest is a winner and will keep your stuff safe.

5Great box
By A Customer
As a guy that does many smaller, short term jobs I use this tool box because of it's small size and versitility. It's not unruly to move around like the big boxes and perfect for smaller jobs where you are onsite with only half the tools in your collection. Being a Knaack box, it's construction and security is superior.

5Nice Strong Box
By fisherdude2
This is a sturdy box and the locking mechanism seems to be adequate for all but the most determined attack. You use your own padlock to secure the box and there is a recess for it to fit in where it cannot be accessed with bolt cutters, hacksaw, etc. There is a lip that sticks up making it more difficult to pry the lid open and the locking mechanism locks on both sides keeping the lid tightly closed. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be really theft proof these days, however, the Jobmaster will stand up to all but the most determined theif - just be sure to lock it down so it cannot be carried off. This reminds me, there are carrying handles on both ends and the legs elevate the box so it is easy to get under with a fork lift.

4Knaack 32 Jobmaster
By B. Ingle
I use this box as a supplement to a Weathergaurd crossbox (concrete tools in crossbox). It is big enough to keep my form carpenters tools (bags, recip. saw w/case, Skil saw, cords, drills, etc.) and still have a little room in the bed of a Ford Ranger. It is heavy-built and should last for years. My only gripe is that the finish is not very durable. Mine is less than 6 months old and is starting to develop surface rust. I like having a lockable box that can be easily removed from the truck and bolted to the floor of a tool van or put on wheels for longer commercial jobs, though. Paint can be replaced. I recommend it.
