5Incredible Speakers...The Sound is So Good
By A Customer
I tried these B&Ws at a local high end stereo shop. I was amazed that these little beauties could pump such clear, and yet powerful, sound. The Kevlar cone is amazingly tight and responsive. These speakers made my basic stereo setup sound like I was in the concert venue. These speakers are clean and a great value! By the way, you won't find these speakers for less anywhere else. Amazon is the only place on the web that can sell them.

4Wonderful little speakers... when you crank them.
By A Customer
For the price and the size, I've never listened to a pair of speakers that could produce such rich, clean sound. My only problem with them is the fact that you really have to crank them loud to make them sound good. They sound a bit muddy at low volumes, which one should take into consideration. As I live in a college dorm, this isn't a good thing. I purchased a pair of Boston Acoustic CR-9's instead... which are slightly inferior in overall imaging, but sound great at low volumes, as well as when you crank them. I'll probaably upgrade to some floor-standing B&W's after I get my own place, however.

4These Speakers Can Sing !
By A Customer
I purchased these speakers about 2 months ago and I still can not seem to listen to them enough. The clarity and detail is outstanding. The soundstage they can throw is amazing. When I listen to these speakers I can hear alot of sounds that I was not able to before from my old pair of speakers. Such as faint back up vocals, and other instruments. Man, these speakers can sing !

5Wow, almost perfect for my needs!
By Peter T. Duffy
This is a great buy at twice the price. There are two features I would have liked but not major ones. Let me say first of all, I am a part time DJ and I cannot tie up all my CDs in a large 100 or 200 CD carousel. I need easy access to load and play lots of new music to build play lists. If you never remove your CDs then I would consider a different player. If you carry your music back and forth to the car or work (or DJ like I do) and want to only load a few CDs for an evening then this is the best I've seen. First, the good features; a 5 CD drawer that can be opened without stopping play, good display, easy to use remote, easy to use front buttons, a power cable that detaches from the back (a BIG help in a crowded cabinet like mine), optical digital connection, headphone jack w/volume control. Now, the bad features; there seems to be no way to display the time for a cut other than the elapsed time. I am slightly disappointed in this obvious feature I have seen on every CD player in the last 10 years or so. A minor irritant to me, you might not miss it. The other feature is the optical digital. I would have liked a coax digital as my Kenwood VR-309 receiver only has one optical port and that is used by my JVC XV-511 DVD. Other components in my system for sound, 3 x Dual 5" Vifa speakers w/ Al dome tweeters from Speaker City in Glendale, CA, with 2 x Optimus 5 from Radio Shack for surrounds. The sound of this setup is superb. This unit is a great replacement for my Kenwood DP-R3080 CD.

3Overall pleased, but it could be better.
By Krusty Fan
I bought this to replace a 5-cd shelf system when the cd function froze. After buying and returning two other players (different brands and much more expensive) I ended up with this one. Two features are of the utmost importance to me - random play and quick changes between tracks in random play. While the time between tracks when changing discs is still unacceptable at about 8-10 seconds, it is the shortest I've found. The two I returned were 21 and 16 seconds, completely unacceptable. As a comparison, my now-defunct shelf system was also a carousel changer and only took 3-4 seconds max to start the next track when changing discs.Like I said, overall it's acceptable, but there are two other features that I don't like. The first is the unadjustable brightness of the display. If you are one of those people who like to chill in the dark to your favorite music the display is annoyingly bright. Not a big deal since a layer or two of window tinting can tone it down. The other grievance is that you cannot switch between random and continue play with the music playing. You have to stop the music to change, which of course means interrupting the current track. As a plus, this unit has a headphone jack and a 'power' button on the remote. The other two more expensive ones didn't.Since pickings are slim in this category of components, I think it's the best for the money.

5Nothing wrong with this at all
By Mitch Haile
I don't understand all the negative reviews about this changer. I've owned this changer for about 6 months now, and find it more than suitable for casual use. My previous 5 disc changer was a Kenwood CD-203 (purchased in 1998); I also own a Pioneer 301 disc changer. Before purchasing this changer, I was quite apprehensive due to the negative reviews on here. I bit the bullet, as my Kenwood changer was acting up, and I am quite happy with this product. This changer has never skipped on me or presented other issues. I use the optical output on the changer to connect to my receiver, and the quality is excellent. The remote works even with sloppy angles. The changer is quiet when changing CDs (rotating the carousel), and the display is readable from across the room. There are a few little quirks: The changer differentiates between 'exchanging' a CD (thus not interrupting the currently playing CD, and not opening the drawer all the way) and 'open', which stops the current CD and opens the drawer. Personally, I find the distinction a little annoying, since I almost always want to 'exchange'. My previous Kenwood has no such distinction.I also wish the remote layout and buttons were a little more friendly to use by touch and not by sight--I like to listen to music in low light or even darkness, so I had to memorize some of the remote buttons (In particular, 'disc skip' is located in the middle of the remote). However, these are extremely minor nits. The changer is excellent, feels sturdy, and has survived about 600 hours of use in the last 6 months. I am delighted with my purchase and would recommend the changer to anyone looking for a low capacity changer.

3Adequate but I've bought better
By Nephew of David
I bought one a little while ago (2/06). It does the job but seems chintzy, compared to the Sony I had before. The right hand well is noisy which is a drag since the deck is right next to me as I listen/record. I do like that it has a pitch control (on deck 1 only) but wish it had a time counter rather than an index counter. It also has rotating heads which is just plain bad engineering. There is no need for that. I don't expect this unit to last long with rotating heads but there are so few dual well decks that record on both wells, this will have to do for now. It is also noisy as it reverses direction (heads rotating) and as it plays/records.

5meets my needs
By Wilbur L. Townsend
The W-360R cassette recorder does everything that I want from a recorder. I am interested in recording long musical pieces from my FM radio amplifier, and with the W860R I can record up to 180 minutes using both tapes which meet my needs. Very few operas, oratorios etc exceed this time limit, and the few that do can be coped with by replacing tape I with a new tape.

5Excellent Cassette Player
By D. Parkin Jr.
Teac may not be well known in consumer electronics,But they make quality products at competetive prices. Although tape decks are becoming obsolete, this Teac player can offer you CD like soundwhen using High Bias Cassettes. You will not findto many players with the High End quality that this unit gives you at any price. I highly recommend the TEAC W790-RIf you want a tape player that is just as goodwith a few more features see the TEAC W860-R

2The tape transport is a piece of junk.
By Gerald M. Vrooman
This is a nice sounding deck, but the tape transport is cheap and unreliable. I had mine for about a year, and the left well started eating tapes. I finally took it to a repair shop. When I got it back it worked for a week then it ate one of my favorite tapes. I would not recommend this deck.

5Incredible For The Price
By Jabberwock
We produce books-on-CD, but when we record live, we use a small, studio-quality tape recorder for convenience. We then ship the masters to a popular nationwide service for transference to CD.Our old tape-to-tape machine just couldn't be repaired again, and we needed to back up a master fast. I ordered the Teac W790R because I knew I could have it overnighted. We were all surprised by the excellent backup tapes it produced, and have continued to use it.And our technician couldn't be happier. It's just a great deal, especially for the price.

4good tape deck, great price
By A Customer
I've never got around to installing a cd player in my truck, so I still record all of my cds on tape. When my tape deck recently broke, I was faced with a delimma. Buy a new tape deck, or install a cd player in my vehicle. Since I've made over 500 tape recordings of my cd's, I decided to stick with the tape deck. The TEAC W600-R is a great componant for the price. The recordings come out clear, with very little hissing. The functions are icreadibly easy to operate. I haven't yet used the tape to tape dubbing, since most of my recording is done from cds. I would absolutely recommend this recorder. You can't beat the price.

4Real find!
By A Customer
This is a very simple to use dual deck that sounds great...I found the controls to require a feather touch. The solenoids controling the transport are loud. The transport itself is smooth and noise free. This is as good as it gets at twice the price.

5Still the Best
By The Wretched Reviewer (with Malice Aforethought)
An old-style receiver from back when they actually cared about what the customer wanted, and value was determined by the quality of the unit, not by how many buttons, levers and digital displays could be packed into one box. You can actually turn the volume up and down with a knob, not by pushing a dang button. Things took a big step backwards when digital control buttons came along. Yes, this unit has push buttons, but they are big enough to read the label, and you don't need to read a fine-printed manual to figure out how to run the thing.

5Easy and great scan quality
By Mistress Blue
After wistfully wanting a slide scanner but knowing they were out of my price range, I jumped at the chance to get one under $500. Normal scanners just don't have the resolution to do slides or negatives. I was expecting a lot of hassle, as is typical with periperhals, but this little scanner was really easy to set up and use. It lets you make corrections to contrast, color level, brightness, etc., before you actually scan. I take a lot of slides and can finally make prints from them easily on my printer (before i had to pay big $$ to have slides printed, since they have to make a negative and then print from that, resulting in major quality loss). I also take a lot of black and white portraits, but don't have a darkroom. I can finally tweak the image just like I'm developing it myself with chemicals.

Scanning is fast and the results are sharp and colorful. It's pretty amazing for the price.

5Kudos to H/P
By R. Lade
Thank God for H/P! I do a lot of photography and being a purist (using film and a darkroom) I resisted the move to digital imaging mainly because I couldn't find what I needed without a second mortgage on my condo. I needed to be able to scan negatives mainly because the scan quality is higher resulting in better print quality. When I saw the S20's bang for the buck, I knew that my digital imaging time had come. This scanner is the greatest thing since sliced bread as far as I'm concerned. And knowing H/P quality to be what it is, I bought my S20 with every confidence and not a second thought. My faith has been well-rewarded. I couldn't ask for more for what I have invested. Anyone planning to scan photos, slides, and negatives need look no further than the S20. Thanks H/P!

5Top quality professional-level scans
By Digilante
Although the cost of this scanner is still prohibitive to some, the fact is that this is a professional-quality film scanner at an excellent price.

Initially I purchased the much cheaper Epson Perfection Photo 1200. It had dead spots along the scanning array - turned out the entire batch of a few hundred scanners was faulty. I then decided to splurge and got the HP S20, and I have not looked back.

Installation is tricky - so be sure to read the instructions in the (VERY POOR!) manual. Once you have that going, the rest is a breeze. The included software is fantastic in that it's analysis of the image and automatic adjustment of colour, balance, exposure, etc, is dead right 9 out of 10 times. Under- or over-exposed slides and negatives are no longer an issue. I love the exposure control, which allows to adjust exposure separately for light, medium, and dark regions - most scanner software only has a single exposure control. This allows you to make excellent repairs to a face that came out too dark in a sunny picure.

Resolution of course is spectacular - a bit too spectacular perhaps since every single microscopic dust particle gets duly represented on the scanned image :-) Seriously though, the results of blowing up about a fifth of a slide and printing it as a full page on an HP PhotoSmart P1000 printer were excellent.

The scanner is a bit noisy, and also very slow - especially at the high resolutions, as can be expected. Slides, negative strips, as well as photographs are dealt with relatively easily.

The only problem that I see is that the scanner is unable to scan a single frame of a negative (only strips of two or more). This is an issue with slides when you want to scan the maximum frame area - i.e. scan the slide without the mount. I think the solution will be to buy a slide mount that is easily re-openable, and use a craft-knife to cut out a larger viewing area.

In summary, if it is convenience and speed you want, then perhaps this is not for you - however if scan quality is the overriding priority and you take your hobby seriously, then this is it.
