Kuhn Rikon 3344 7.4-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker Product Description:

  • Solid thermal aluminum sandwich in bottom for even browning and rapid heat absorption
  • Five over-pressure safety systems; automatic locking system; spring-loaded precision valve
  • Saves time and 70 percent of energy normally consumed while cooking
  • Made in Switzerland; hand washing recommended; 10-year warranty

Product Description

Cook almost anything in this long-handled Duromatic pressure cooker. The pressure cooker can be used for meats, soups, stews, risotto, vegetarian dishes, and even desserts, and is large enough to accommodate large roasts, although it doesn't need to be filled to capacity. The pressure cooker's spring-loaded valve takes the guesswork out of pressure cooking, giving you a perfect result from the first use. The valve is like a thermometer, letting you know the precise moment at which to begin timing your dish; a visual indicator pin tells you how much pressure is inside the cooker, while eliminating the noise of escaping steam. The automatic lid-locking system prevents the lid from ever opening while the cooker is under pressure. The stainless steel pot will not interact with food, and the aluminum sandwich base conducts heat superbly, resulting in perfectly even browning and rapid heat absorption. An 86-page pressure cooker cookbook is included.
7-1/3 quart/7 litre capacity (serves 8 - 10).
18/10 stainless steel with a solid thermal aluminum sandwich base. Dishwasher safe. Made in Switzerland. 10 year warranty.

5Easy to Use
By Patrick M. Mitchell
My grandmother and my mother both used pressure cookers frequently. When I was younger, one of the first kitchen items I purchased was a pressure cooker of my very own (a Hawkins Futura jiggle-type, which still works perfectly).Recently, I decided to purchase the 7 liter Kuhn Rikon, primarily because it is larger than my Futura. Some other reviewers have noted that the Kuhn Rikon requires more monitoring than jiggle-type pressure cookers. This is only somewhat true. Jiggle-type pressure cookers release steam throughout the cooking process. This provides confirmation that the cooker is operating through sound. It IS convenient if this is what you are used to. However, these cookers require more liquid to achieve pressure and as a result, certain items can come out more watery than I prefer. You can boil away the excess liquid after releasing pressure, but then you lose some of the time saved. The Kuhn Rikon uses an advanced enclosed system. As a result, the "sound of pressure", or hiss is missing. A small valve with two red lines provides confirmation that moderate and full pressure have been achieved. At this point in the cooking process, you must turn down the heat to maintain pressure only; if you leave the heat on high, pressure will continue to rise. Without sound to guide you, one must rely on visual clues. The Kuhn Rikon makes it easy. But, it IS different than listening for the hiss. The first few times you use the cooker, you will need to determine how far to lower your cooktop temperature to maintain the pressure in the cooker. This does require monitoring and a little guess work. However, once you determine how your cooktop and pressure cooker interact, it is the same every time. From that point on, you simply wait for the red line to appear and turn your cooktop down to your pre-determined setting. Set the timer and you're almost done. Easy. In addition:1. The enclosed system is virtually silent;2. The enclosed system allows fast, high temperature cooking without heating up your kitchen;3. The benefits of a lower liquid requirement to achieve high pressure can not be overstated. The Kuhn Rikon system is different but produces superior results. For those who possess even a modicum of patience, I highly recommend this pressure cooker.***UPDATE JUNE 18, 2012***8 years later and the Kuhn Rikon still performs exactly the same as the day I purchased it - perfectly! I'm proud to say that with a minimum of care, it still looks practically brand new. At our house, Friday means roasted chicken. That also means that after dinner I take the bones, crack them and toss them into the Kuhn Rikon with the vegetable peelings I've saved over the week (I store them in the freezer), add water and with just 40 minutes @ high pressure, I've got about 12 cups of high quality, no-sodium-added, super-gelatinous chicken stock to use throughout the coming week. For those who are discovering the joy of induction burners, the Kuhn Rikon is induction-friendly! I can bring a full pot to full pressure in about 7 minutes on my portable induction burner. 7 minutes! If you haven't made risotto in your Kuhn Rikon (I use my 3.7 Liter Anniversary Edition Duromatic for this task), why not try it with your homemade chicken stock? Otherwise, you're missing out on about 4 portions of a $20 restaurant dish that you can make quickly and easily at home for about $3. If you're a Modernist Cuisine fan, I would also like to suggest the caramelized butternut squash - it's eye opening. They recommend the Kuhn Rikon as the best pressure cooker available - but those of us who own one already know that. Worth every penny - because I know my Kuhn Rikon will last longer than I do!

5WOW! NOW you're cooking with steam! This POT Rocks!
By Paul Galioni
And I thought I knew what a `good' pressure cooker was! And boy does this save energy!A friend recommend this model to me when I was looking at new pressure cookers. My old family hand-me down Presto worked, but the cap with the white lines that popped up wasn't popping up - and I detest the `rocker' pots - noisy, and to me, dangerous. So I was looking for a new PC and I was on the fence between this model and the one without the long handle. GET THIS ONE. It might seem a bit awkward at first, but if you have ever lifted a pot of pot roast or 6 Liters of Bean Soup, you know how heavy it can be! - and the long handle saves the day! And I have to say that I own several `large' pressure cookers for canning, but only had the 1940's-early 1950's pressure cooker from my grandmother for cooking. Before I go too far I also have to say that I went to school with a friend who became a beach-bum in the South Pacific - Degrees in Environmental Engineering and Enviro. Planning from UC and she's a beach bum on a sail boat in the South Pacific while I had to teach! - Well she points out that on a sail boat, energy is precious, more so than gold sometimes - and that one of the greatest presents she ever got was a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker - given to her by a Scandinavian who was about to declare his boat open salvage for anyone who chose to come and take stuff - and she says that this pressure cooker saves them hundreds of dollars a year in gas. WOW!And I've noticed the same thing - this puppy is so tight that I can put in, literally, 2-4 tablespoons of water and cook two large artichokes in about 15 minutes! Once the water boils (about 3 minutes) I can lock the top, turn the gas down, and in 15 minutes on a bare simmer I can get perfect artichokes! Carrots take 5 minutes, Broccoli about 3. A pot FULL of close to seven liters of whole potatoes will cook perfectly with less than a quarter cup of water and about 30 minutes on low flame! You can have an entire pot-roast dinner in under an hour - and that includes browning your meat in the pressure cooker, adding the veggies and spices, and bringing it up to pressure and turning it down to simmer. And it is KILLER pot roast.YOU WILL WANT A FLAME-TAMER (or if you have hung around bio. or chem. labs, a `flame spreader') it's one of those things you put on top of a burner that has lots of holes in it and `spreads out the heat' so you keep from scorching the bottom of cheap pans, or cook cast iron with thick tomato paste low enough so it can cook all day and not burn the tomato to the bottom of the pan. Others have mentioned this and the reason has been mentioned by others, this pot is SO energy efficient that most stoves today just don't go low enough to keep the pressure where it belongs. Older stoves do, but newer stoves don't. This is particularly true if you are cooking using very little water.I took out my personal camping stove - an MSR Dragonfly - and using a home-made stand, was able to make about a gallon of bean soup in an hour! And my Dragonfly was not on `scorch' - even IT was turned down to a medium flame! I tried an old soviet gasoline stove modeled after the ever famous Seva known to back-packers and campers world wide - and I made 7 liters of chicken and dumplings in an hour and 20 minutes!! WOW!So - is this a wonder cooker or what? Here's the deal - is it worth almost TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A PRESSURE COOKER!? - well, simply put, yeah, it is!Why? Because it cooks FAST, it uses very little fuel, you can cook with nearly no water for extended periods of time because there is nearly no water lost through venting - thus the FIVE part safety valves - the friend who recommend it to me had a pressure cooker blow up on her once and was a scaredy-cat. And she loves hers and is comfortable with it. I can tell you that there are enough safety features on this pot that even if you were stupid you wouldn't be able to burn yourself or have it blow up in your face - or blow up unattended in the kitchen - it would simply blow out multiple valves and not vent stuff up onto your ceilings like older designed cookers do. (I've made the mistake of taking the top off of a pressure cooker too soon - and know how scary it can be - this cooker seems to `lock' the lid until the pressure is right enough for me to take the lid off and not have the contents blow-up in my face.So -- this pressure cooker rocks! - and if you have never used one before - THIS IS THE MICROWAVE OF THE PAST - only it actually cooks food so that it tastes like it should! I've had mine about two years now - and I can say that it is a very rare week when I don't use it for at least steaming veggies - and in the winter - well - you can have amazing home made soups in well under an hour from start to finish - using far less than a quarter of the fuel that you would normally use! - This is a Pressure Cooker for a New Age of Environmentally Friendly and Healthy cooking! I think I have probably saved the cost of the pot in natural gas over two years -- not to mention the vitamins that are retained because you cook with so little water they stay IN the food you are cooking! (not in the water you take the 'food' out of as in older types of pressure cookers) --This pot rocks!

5Great pressure cooker!
By A Customer
I bought the Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker after the New York Times called it 'the Mercedes Benz among pressure cookers'. And even though I haven't tried any other cookers (so I can't compare) I am totally happy with it. I'm actually spoiled, I got two of these! I use them all the time! I usually make recipes out of the cookbooks 'Great Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure' and 'Complete Vegetarian Kitchen'. Both books are by Lorna Sass. She is an expert on pressure cooking and gives a lot of nice helpful pressure cooking recipes, tips and charts in these books.

If you want to buy a flame tamer for your cooker (highly recommended), please get the Kuhn Rikon one! It's a bit expensive, but the two other ones I tried ended up in the trash can.

I also recommend buying an 'Ohsawa Pot'. When you make rice straight in a pressure cooker it is very sticky and can get stuck to the bottom. With this pot (which you place in the pressure cooker), you get absolutely delicious rice (especially brown and wild rice turn out great!).

5The best pressure cooker I have used so far
By Pankaj SAXENA
I've gone through 4 or 5 pressure cookers in the last 10 years, and I think I've finally found one I like. I work full time (40-60 hours a week), and I like to cook, so the time saved by pressure cooking is important to me. I use the pressure cooker mostly for meat, potatoes, beans and lentils. Typically, meat cooks in about 1/3 the time it would take in a regular pot. Pressure cooked meat is very tender and flavorful, but you need some experience in matching the cooking time to the type of meat. You have to be careful not to overcook.

The construction and finish of this cooker are excellent. It is made of stainless steel, with a thick aluminum plate at the bottom to spread the heat. This is a useful feature. Typically, pressure cooking requires high heat initially to quickly build up steam pressure before you turn the heat down. That is when food can burn and stick to the bottom of the cooker. This cooker spreads heat very well. So long as you use the prescribed amount of water or other cooking liquid, this cooker will not burn food at the bottom.

There is a two-level steam pressure indicator on the lid. The cooker comes with two booklets containing recipes, and a very comprehensive list of recommended cooking times for all sorts of meats, poultry, vegetables, beans, etc. If you follow directions, the cooker does not whistle or otherwise make any objectionable sounds. I can barely hear it from 10 feet away. Of course, if you forget to turn down the heat after the cooker is up to full cooking pressure, it will release a loud burst of steam. This is a safety feature.

The cooker has a shield on top of the lid to direct any escaping steam downwards, so there is no danger of burning your hands.

Kuhn-Rikon recommends using nylon spatulas to maintain the mirror-like finish, but you'll find them sadly inadequate when, for example, browning meat. I use a heavy gauge steel Calphalon spatula and steel tongs. After several months, I can see minor scratch marks inside the cooker, but the outside is still bright and shiny! Anyway, cookware should be designed to take this kind of handling -- it is meant to be useful rather than decorative. Stainless steel is the best material to withstand normal levels of use and abuse, and this cooker handles it well.

Keep in mind that a pressure cooker can't be filled to the top when cooking. It should never be more than half or two-thirds full, so the 5 liter capacity translates to about 2.5-3.0 liters of usable capacity. If you cook large quantities, you might want to get a bigger model.

This is a relatively expensive cooker, but it is well worth the money.

5Mom under pressure
By Meg K
As a mom of two active boys I need my Duromatic pressure cooker almost every day. Especially after swimming they are starving and want real food fast! A standard dish is my 7 mintues risotto.I just throw in whatever I can find in the fridge or follow the great recipe provided in the cookbook "Quick Cuisine" that comes with the cooker. For all of you out there who are afraid of pressure cookers I have this to say: This unit is a high tech and safe as your computer! It's so easy to use even my husband can do it. Some of my favorit dishes: Beef stew, BBQ pot roast, beets, corn on the cob (no boiling 10 gallons of water) potatos for mashed or salad, whole chicken in 20 minutes! Well you just have to try it out. This cooker is the best--my kids will tell you so.

4Mercedes Benz - Not the Most Reliable
By Crispy
Let me carry the analogy of New York Times a little further - this pressure cooker does have nifty features that other's do not, but...(a) it is expensive, (b) not the most reliable cooker, (c) maintenance costs a lot, (d) you really can live without those nifty features.Being Indian, I grew up in a house where pressure cooker was used at least once a day. In Indian grocery stores, pressure cookers are available at a third, or fourth of the price, so this pressure cooker is expensive. But it does look better, and has nifty features. As another reviewer pointed out it is not the most reliable cooker as some plastic parts have poor quality. In my cooker, a plastic part in the steam-deflector disk broke within two weeks. There goes one of the nifty features. After two years of daily use, auxiliary pressure valve is mal-functioning, main pressure valve often gets stuck ( and makes a mess by spurtting out water), handles are cracking, and coming loose easily. One does not expect these problems from an expensive cooker.I just ordered these replaceble parts (which are not covered under warranty) and the bill is over 75$, so maintenance is expensive. Mind you one can buy a whole pressure cooker for less than $50.Now for the nifty features: it touts four safety features, well most modern pressure cooker have three safety features: main pressure valve, auxiliary pressure valve (if main gets stuck), and a rubber ring blow out hole, should auxiliary valve also fail. So steam deflector thingy is extra safety. It is nicely made of quality steel/aluminum and looks good, heats fast and evenly. The best feature is spring loaded pressure valve with two red lines to indicate two different pressure. In old style weight-valves, you never know how much the pressure is (after a couple of months of daily cooking you develop an intuition though) until the weight valve lifts off and lets the steam out. It results in over-cooking, requires more water to be put in. In this pressure cooker, very little or no water is lost, and cooking can be controled a little better and can be finished a little faster. This is the feature because of which I will again buy this pressure cooker, and I am paying for costly maintenance. Having your potatos and dal cooked exactly right, if you know what I mean, is worth the price.

3Solid Product, But Some Annoyances
By A Customer
Picture and sound quality are excellent, and the styling is attractively different (for instance, the front A/V inputs are not color-coded, as is usually the case, but are black, so that they don't stand out jarringly against the black case). The remote, though full-functioned, is poorly laid out, with tiny buttons for some important functions. Pressing the REW or FF buttons when the VCR is already in that mode does not, as on most other machines, initiate the fast rewind or fast-forward modes; to access those you have to press STOP then REW or FF. Most annoying of all, the VCR lacks a precise hour and minute timer for tape position; it has only a scale (that shows up on your TV image) that indicates roughly where the tape is positioned, between beginning and end. If you need to know precisely where you are on a tape, you'll want a different VCR.

5Pretty happy with it
By A Customer
No major annoyances. Little ones: you cannot use the number buttons to enter channels when you program the timer; for timer programming you need to first deselect VCR plus (which I find useless) and then start; when you start play the timer counter is not automatically displayed for a few seconds. Good things about it: the remote seems to work even behind the coffee table; you can stop a recording using the remote (power+stop). These are things I couldn't do with my old Phillips Magnavox (pretty crappy). I disagree with some of the other reviewers: I don't know of any VCR that can play European tapes; I find the commercial skip button pretty useless...[and] that some important buttons are too small (especially the channel-changing buttons).

This panasonic vcr has so many great features. The best one is the commercial skip. I always wanted a vcr with this feature, and finally I got one. It has one of the best recording system. Recoreded movies sounds just like the original one. Its remote is handy and has eject function. This is all you need.

4This is a good value, basic VCR
By A Customer
Not being a TV-o-phile but recording and watching programs infrequently, this VCR does more that I could ever want. It's a good value, basic feature VCR than performs well. The remote control is laid out in a satisfactory way, the VCR is relatively easy to program, playback and record are fine. It has features I won't even use (e.g. VCR Plus recording setup).

Initial setup is quite easy as the VCR is programmed to enter this automatically on first use. The instruction manual is incomplete. Information is missing, hard to find, and poorly indexed. Still, it's just a VCR: minimal fiddling answers most questions. The VCR will playback and record in all of Slow Play, Long Play, and Super Long Play modes (despite comments of earlier reviewer). This is one of those things that is not explicitly outlined in the accompanying manual so a little trial and error was necessary.

As is the trend with electronics, prices are more stable than performance, which increases. This VCR is better than the $110 Zenith VCR I bought four years ago. I've also had good luck with a Panasonic VCR in the past that lasted seven years with no maintenance (not so much as head cleaning) before it started to flake out.

I give the product four stars overall as it's in the budget category, without a lot of bells and whistles. For price and standard features, it rates five stars.

5A great buy for a high school student
By A Customer
I bought this VCR because I wanted to be able to watch my movies and television shows on tape whenever I wanted, whether my parents liked them or not. It was a great deal and is an excellent product. I must admit, I was a little dissappointed that the commercial skip button was little more than a feature that allowed you to fast forward very quickly for 1-3 minutes, but I still give this product 5 stars. It plays back wonderfully and is very easy to program. I believe that it was the best but for my money, and I shopped around. Even a high school student can figure it out, I did.

3Read the manual? Good luck!
By A Customer
The VCR is fine, but figuring out how to program the beast is a nightmare. Essentially the manual says one thing, the on-screen instructions say something else, and what actually works is still something else.

5Great player (quality and features) at great price: get it!
By Colin Gould
I got this player just a week ago and love it already. My father already had the older Toshiba SD2109 (the previous model- the SD1200 is the breand new replacement), and it seemed good, so I followed those reviews; see those for more detail if you want, just note the improvements in this model.

The SD1200 has the same good points as the SD2109, but adds VideoCD and CD/Video Text capabilities. I was even able to play some old VCD2.0 tour videos from China, they worked great, no glitches! Played Matrix fine.

Video quality is superb, both on S-Video output and of course component- SV had a little less color saturation than component. Dolby Digital sounded great!

Note that this player has some important features vs others: let alone the low price and quality!

! + the price- only $230-250 for ALL the features you'd want in DVD! Don't pay more!

+ outputs both Dolby Digital and DTS- compatible w/ all movies then. (does not decode, but no biggie- put that in your receiver, not dvd!)

* Note it only has coax digital audio out, not toslink optical. Make sure your reciever is compatible (my JVC RX888 is great.) Will output dolby digital, dts, PCM digital audio out. Has regular RCA analog also. You can select options & which to output via remote.

+ has all video outs: component, S-Video, and composite. Note some others like Sony SVP330 do NOT have component out, only svideo!

+ plays videoCDs (unlike SD2109).

+ has slow play mode (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) as well as fast fwd/rvs scan. (doesn't seem to have reverse slow.) Other players only have "pause/step", what's the point of having a random-access disk w/ great slow/freeze frame picture, if you can't play slow to see big explosions in detail? :->

+ has a nice interface, eg onscreen- good, unobtrusive, usable menus overlaid on the video. Can also change most options on-the-fly w/ buttons on the remote, eg subtitles, audio select, etc. with minimal text on the screen- good for changing specific things quickly w/o distracting from the movie.

All menu options are easy to understand, eg no "cool looking" but unusable interface (JVC555 was kind of hard to use in that respect.)

- Remote buttons are a bit small, and play/pause etc. are not "highlighted" or bigger, so you have to look at the remote (no backlight.)

+ dimmable display on the player, if you don't like distracting time counter etc. in your stereo rack.

+ resume-from-stop mode, eg stop, then optionally resume from where you were. You can also input exact HHMMSS to go to, and zips there immediately.

+ screen saver for long pause, to not burn out your new big-screen projection tv :-)

otherwise all the comments for SD2109 also apply. I haven't noticed too much noise (disk tray/rotate) playing disks, seems quiet. Nice build eg tray is solid opening/closing. Small and light, but heavy on features and performance!

I've heard this and SD2109 are not compatible w/ CD-Rs, though, I've played some "mix" discs a friend made for me, and seems to work fine. Not sure if they are CDR or CDRW or what, but they do work.

Highly recommend this player. Get it.

5Great Value, Top Notch Performance
By A Customer
As most of the reviews indicate, this is a very good DVD player at a bargain price. I auditioned players from Samsung and Panasonic in the same price range. Although both of those brands performed adequately, each was deficient in at least one critical area. The Samsung had a tendency to randomly skip over seconds worth of movie; this was true of every DVD disc I played in the two-day period, ranging from recent sci-fi (Lost In Space) to an old classic (Casablanca). The Panasonic was considerably more in price, had more features on paper, but it's performance was not up to the task. Although it had no problem playing the discs, the video quality was not as impressive as even the cheaper Samsung. In addition, at least one of the remote functions seemed to not work (VSS, to enable the virtual surround sound feature). Finally, in order to change settings you have to locate the proper icon (which are almost as intuitive as ancient hieroglyphics) from a series of display menus. Those items not accessible from the display menu have to be accessed through an "action" button.

So finally to the Toshiba. I went to Amazon to read customer reviews, and noted that this Toshiba was both the top seller, and also garnered the most positive reviews. Satisfied that this component had potential, I went to a local Best Buy and asked the sales person his recommendation. Without hesitation he recommended the Toshiba for it's top performance at a very reasonable cost. While there are other models out there with seemingly more bells and whistles, this unit will play movies flawlessly, and has the most useful features for the average consumer. Finally, Toshiba has a reputation for designing and manufacturing top-notch home electronic components. This DVD player is no exception to that rule, and furthers Toshiba's reputation as a leader in home audio/video components.

The only slight I can find with this model is the size of the remote buttons; for the average male, the buttons are much too small and close together. But once you get past that small inconvenience you appreciate how good this player really is.

5Great bargain for the price!
By Steven Diaz
As a lover of all things audio-video, I must say that the Toshiba SD-1200 is one fine machine. I personally own an older model SD-500 sony from two years ago, a Toshiba 2008, toshiba 3108, and a creative labs dvd player for my pc, and I must confess that the toshiba SD-1200 is a great player. The color reproduction from the toshiba is outstanding, and I have always felt that toshiba dvd players produce a brighter, more vibrant color scheme than any other DVD player that I have seen. The definition, and black level detail in the Toshiba SD-1200 is better than any other DVD player in that price range. The only thing that is not as good as it could be is the players in-player letterboxing. If you are like me, you watch your movie on a standard 4:3 tv which means that when you are watching an "anamorphic" dvd, the player must convert the picture to be displayed on your tv. The Toshiba SD-1200 has a tendency to add wavy edges to scenes that contain parallel lines that are close together. For example, in the movie aliens, the floor of the fortress they are in has many closely spaced metal divisions that can tend to look like liquid metal when the camera slowly pans over the surface. Having owned or seen many dvd players in this price range I know that this is a problem for all dvd players, but the Toshiba SD-1200 handles this problem the best. The only players that can letterbox well are the $600 and up players, so this should not be a knock on the Toshiba SD-1200. The audio outputs provided great sound when I fed them into my dolby digital/DTS receiver, but the omission of an optical output may upset some people. All in all, I think that the Toshiba SD-1200 is a great deal for the price and offers great audio, and video performance.

5VERY GOOD
By Jose A. Perez
When I began using this item I became obsessed. It feels so good, with just the right degree of grip ( although some reviewers do not agree with me ). As yo can see from the item photographs, it has a smooth canal, untextured and stretchy, better fit for guys who are within average to large size ( if you are below average, get a tighter or a textured Fleshlight). It comes lightly powdered to keep it fresh and requires maintennance, washing, drying and maybe powder to prevent mold growth due to environmental humidity. I use cornstarch to powder it, but you can skip this step if you clean it and dry it thoroughly. It also will keep the sleeve in good shape for a longer time.We agree that there is nothing like a real woman, but this thing really has an edge!

5This Porter/Cable Nailer combo does the job
By Gary M. Diana
I bought this unit about a month ago, and I thought it was a bargain...!The main reason I bought it was to install wainscot (1/4" pine, tongue-in-groove boards) in a room which was 9'x25'. This tool really made the work go pretty fast. To put up the wainscot, it's preferable to nail it through the tongue; what can happen is that the nail (or your hammer!) splits the tongue and therefore makes the installation go slow. To avoid splitting, the wainscot mfgr. recommends predrilling the nail holes! Talk about slow installation! The porter cable nailer allowed me to put the nails in without much splitting of tongues, and it also put the nail in without requiring a nail set to get the nail even or below the surface of the wood.

The compressor plugs into a regular 110v AC outlet, and only runs when it needs to refill its air tank. I found that I could shoot 20-25 1" brads before the compressor would kick on and run for about 1 minute. The compressor is not quiet, but it isn't that loud either. The unit is easily carried from place to place (approx. 40 lbs) and doesn't take much space at the job site.

I've always wanted one of these, and I can see using it for a variety of around the home build-it jobs. One more thing, I bought nails for the nailer at Loew's, and they were <$10 for a box of 5,000.

It took about 1 week from the time I ordered it, til I received the box. Everything arrived in great condition; I've had good service from this and other items I have ordered from Amazon.

5Terrific Product for Home Projects
By Lynn Sabin
This is my first compressor and first nail gun, thus I was a bit apprehensive about assembly and first use. However, I found Porter-Cable's written instructions remarkably clear and the lightweight pancake-style compressor easy to handle. I did quite a bit of comparison shopping, deciding on the Porter-Cable brad nailer after reading recent magazine reviews. As a woman, I found the compressor's weight a particularly desirable feature. The nailer has good heft and balance. I've now completed several jobs around the house, including base molding and light furniture construction. This machinery has performed beyond my expectations.

5Great package deal from a great company!
By S. Bauer
Being a novice fixer-upper/wood worker, I wanted to move into a little more advanced stuff. After watching The New Yankee Workshop, over and over again, I knew I wanted, at least, a air powered brad nailer. After getting this one, it has turned out to be an indispensable tool! No more waiting for glue to dry, just brad nail it together! With so may other options and attachments, everyone could use an air compressor at the home. Air tool options... painting, driving nails, driving staples, powered drills, powered chisels, filling up car tires, blowing up air toys, the list goes on...

This little guy is a great introduction of what air tools can provide! It's small and weighs very little. Very easy to understand instructions with little to read (good and to the point). Almost no prepwork. You only need to let it run for 15 minutes before use. The included brad nailer is also well constructed. Smooth operation with no kickback. So far I've used the brad nailer to build some small furniture, attach molding, to blow off saw dust (with optional attachments), and to fill up the tires on my car (no more driving to the gas station!)

I highly recommend this product to be a top choice in your workshop (get a good table saw first!). It's dependable and so is Porter Cable! The only thing I don't like is the noise level. It's a little noisy, but I'll live with that!
