mixed feelings

I purchased two of the red side wall 700x23c pro 4 for the 2012 death ride. I've put 400-500 miles on them thus far, including the death ride, shasta century, and a couple of training rides. They're very rugged compared to the pro 3 which seem to always be picking up small rocks which if not immediately removed lead to a punctures. The 4's don't seem to suffer from this problem, at least not yet. They ride is buttery even at 130 psi, a smooth and soft ride. And fast. Now for my concern: On a number of descents I've noticed that they don't feel very solid at high(40 mph +) speeds especially the rear tire. I think it's a combination of the tread material and design. The tread area, thicker rubber, is very narrow and much thicker than the rest of the tire. This gives the tire a more angled trapezoidal shape which when leaning hard into sharper curves doesn't feel solid. They look great though.Edit: The pro4 on the rear got sliced and I replaced it with a specialized armadillo, which is a very rugged, stable, tire. It handles much better than the 4 but it's a bit heavier and no where near as fast. still riding the 4 on the front. This setup feels perfect, the 4 makes a perfect front tire. I may try another set to see if I just got a bad pair the first time around.

Favorite tire hands down

I ride 5 days a week, rain or shine, with regular hard rides (in intensity or distance). I commute too, all in all, putting down 120 to 160 miles a week. Imagine my surprise when I saw my rear tire squared off and noticed that I had already put almost 2000 miles on it. The front tire has a little less mileage, looks new. I'm impressed.But to add to this: no flats. I hate getting flats going to work or going home. I've flatted on various Continentals, Pro 3s, Vittorias, and I've had to trash a few tires due to embedded glass I couldn't remove. So what's the construction difference then with these tires that I've had no flats at all - keep in mind - I've made zero changes to my riding - and I've become accustomed to changing a flat every few months.So for durability, I *love* these things.Now, as for performance, these are my second favorite tires. The first are the Vittoria Open Corsa Evo. But the Evos are top-of-the-line for performance, these Michelin's are the "service course" tire for lazy, cheap cyclists like me who abhor flats. I lean hard on them, I have evolution-friendly stupidity with cornering, but I'm still alive. I don't hit mountain curves at 50mph mind you (my genes will survive I guess), but I do love hitting city street 90 degree turns over 20mph. There's a few downhills here in the bay area that require some fast back-and-forth leaning. I've never had any concerns, I think it implies only good stuff when I realize that I've never given these tires any thought during cornering or descending.And they're low in weight to top it off.

Great Tires - Puncture resistant

Have 500-600 miles on these so far, and knock on wood, no flats These are great looking tires, the blue in tire really looks good with grey / blue bike.I run these in crit's on Tues nights, have done 2 centuries in last couple months, and average about 130 miles per week. Traction in crit's is good, and they seem to roll nicely.I keep 100lbs in front and 110lbs in back, I'm a big cyclist, 6" and 200lbs.Very happy with these tires so far.
