5hands down
By Dana Bertomen
I was raised on the Skill clasic. I used the Skill worm drive for 7 years. I tried the Dewalt with the front pivot for three months. I used the Porter Cable framing saw for six months. The Milwaukee tilt handle beats them all for ease of use and "controlability". The tilt feature makes it easier to cut straight on thin material, the wide plate is marked clearly for easy reading and ripping, and the saw has more than enough power to spare. I wish that I had bought this one sooner and not wasted so much time trying out all the rest.

5who needs a worm-drive?
By Evan Freeman
i'll preface this by saying i'm a professional carpenter and make my living using my tools.i have owned or used worm-drives from skil, makita, and bosch, as well as sidewinders from porter-cable, makita, hitachi, skil, and dewalt. this milwaukee is my saw of choice in nearly every situation--it is light (4+lbs less than a worm-drive), powerful, accurate, and the tilt-lok handle is a great feature. at first, i thought i'd not use the tilt-lok often, but i end up using it in a different position several times a day. another feature easily overlooked but crucial is the positioning of the secondary handle. i most often cut one-handed anyway, but when i do grab the front handle, my hand and wrist are far enough forward to stay well away from the blade sightline.my only (small) complaint is that i'd prefer the dust collection to be a bit more organised. porter-cable saws do a great job with this, and i wonder why the other manufacturers can't seem to get it together.if i had it to do over again, i'd spring for the blade brake model--the blade can do a lot of damage in the 8-10 seconds it takes to spin down.

5A Cut Above The Rest
By Dan Kornfeld
I've been using this saw for over a year on everything from a house addition to furniture building and its never missed a beat. This is a powerful tool with a great amount of attention paid to fit and finish. Its aluminum sole plate glides effortlessly over any wood surface, and the large rubberized hand grips and Tilt-Lok feature allows for hours of use with maximum comfort. I recommend this saw to anyone seeking a powerful, refined, and rugged unit at a very reasonable price.

4Bosch 11224VSRK
By A Customer
I bought the 11224VSR to replace my old 11212VSR, which I have owned for about ten years. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the new 11224 is made in Germany, especially since these days so many power tool manufactures are shifting operations to Mexico, China and Taiwan. Even the free promotional SDS-Plus bit set that was included with the kit when I bought it is German made. The 6.9 Amp motor and stop-rotation feature make the 11224 excellent for light chipping and scaling with 3/4"or 1-1/2"wide chisels respectively. It is reversible, so it is ideal for installing and removing light to medium duty small masonry fasteners. The 7/8" solid bit capacity gives it the ability to make a hole in concrete large enough for pass 1/2" EMT through. With the available, impact rated 1/2" locking geared chuck adapter, you can use the tool for drilling in wood or metal in the rotation only setting or with standard straight shank percussion masonry bits in the hammer/rotation mode. The adapter is not something that I use all the time but was glad to have had it on several occasions because it kept me from having to stop what I was doing and run out to the truck to grab a regular 1/2" drill just to make a couple of holes in a metal enclosure or 2X floor joist.I also use it with the 1-1/8" and larger Bosch thin-wall core bits with an 11-7/8" shank for drilling through ceramic, granite and marble tile floors and poured concrete walls to run conduit and pipe. The Bosch thin-wall core bits are sometimes hard to find locally and are also expensive, but are well worth it because they make very clean holes and substantially increase the capacity of this small hammer. In addition, my larger Bosch 1-1/2" spline-drive hammer with a standard heavy-wall core bit just hits to hard and will almost always damage ceramic or expensive granite and marble tiled floors. The only thing I don't care for is the plastic storage case that comes with the 11224 hammer. It is flimsy and just lets everything inside fly around. It doesn't have the sliding tray for smaller bits up to 6" and separate compartment for longer bits and attachments or the secure latches of the superb metal case made by Merriam Manufacturing that came with my older Bosch 11212. Plastic cases have do their merits and are sometimes superior to metal cases for storage of some power tools but in my opinion, they are generally not a good idea for most rotary hammers, which usually require many different sizes and lengths of bits, attachments and boxes of fasteners to be used and stored with them.Other than that one complaint, I feel that the 11224 is easily the best and most versatile 7/8" SDS rotary hammer on the market and would have no problem recommending it to anyone.

5My experience with the 11224VSR Rotary Hammer
By A Customer
I do a lot of brick work, and found myself having to install footings over and in a lot of hardpan. I bought the Bosch Rotary Hammer hoping I could avoid all the pick work which was killing my back. I have to say this machine worked great. I used a chisel bit and it cut through the hardpan like butter. I was able to form my footings by cutting the exact size in the hard soil. I am writing this review because after a couple of weeks of 8 hour days using this Hammer, I realized that in addition to saving my back, the machine was quite durable.

Later I cut through a bunch of cement flashing along my house foundation to lay some footings and again the Bosch did a great job. Oh.. I did try drilling some holes in concrete with complete success. I recommend the Bosch rotary hammer, one of my favorite tools!!

5If only I had known...
By Brize Books
I think of the times I've spent over the years leaning with all my might on a regular drill trying to punch holes in masonry. Little did I know, but using a regular drill on masonry is akin to pushing a nail into wood rather than hitting it.I started to catch on when I opted for the hammer drill version of my recent cordless drill purchase. Pleased with the performance of that machine, I decided to move up to this Bosch corded rotary hammer for some bigger holes I needed. I have not been disappointed. In fact, the first time I used this unit, I was dumbfounded by the ease in which it tore 1/2" holes into some old concrete. With this unit, I'd have to rate boring in concrete as at least as easy as boring in wood, and much easier than boring in steel.Yes, it's a lot of money for someone like me who will use it only occasionally. I think what won me over was the versatility of this machine, with the light chipping function as well as the capability to be a high torque regular 1/2" vsr drill. (With the purchase of the adapter - about forty bucks). At least now I'll be looking for reasons to drill into concrete rather than looking for reasons to avoid it!

2okay for drilling
By ty cook
I am a contractor who uses a rotary hammer a few hours per week. I bought the Bosch 1 1/8 inch sdsplus rotohammer about 3 weeks ago, after a reconditioned and used milwaukee unit stopped hammering (after about three weeks). I was pretty happy, at first. A few days ago, I checked out some of the reviews on here, and grew concerned about the chuck loosening up. Sure enough, when I checked it out, it moved about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with a 12 inch bit. I took it back. B.T.W., I contacted Bosch, and they basically said that SDS-Plus hammers aren't designed for much chipping. I do chip alot, so I am probably going to take thier suggestion and get an SDS-Max hammer. I may still get a Bosch. If you are planning on buying this hammer for drilling, it is probably a great tool (and the case is very well organized). If you plan on doing any chipping besides some very light chipping, I suggest getting an SDS-Max or spline drive. You may be disappointed in any SDS-Plus hammer.

5This is where "hammer drills" start
By bernard palys
If you are done drilling 3/8" tapcons and need to drill a real hole in concrete you have to put the cordless down. I did a lot of checking before I bought a hammer drill because I wasnt experienced with these drills. I expanded my work to include exterior foundation work. You need a quality hammer drill to do the job right. This Bosch SDS rotary is perfect for drilling those 1" holes in concrete or brick,or chiseling out brick. If you are not going to be drilling 2" holes through your foundation, you dont need any more drill than this.Anything smaller than this is a waste. This Bosch is a work horse and is still easy on the hands.

5Nice design
By P. Casey
The grinder is smooth running and the soft start-up is a pleasant feature. The speed dial offers a large range and is located at the back of the tool where it is not likely to get bumped. The guard is easily attached and removed. It is nicely balanced, even with the additional weight.

5Best 5 inch VS Grinder I've ever used
By Stephen
You'll appreciate the soft start especially when working at high grind speeds. That alone would justify the additional cost of this vs. a standard grinder.Blade cover was easy to remove and attach. One of these days I may actually use it.Quality, long power cord with long lasting strain relief. (You know the tool will eventually be carried by the cord.)It has excellent torque for a small motor. Difficult to bog down unless I'm using a large diamond disc.I have abused and misused this grinder to the point I thought I'd kill it. I blow it out and it works as good as new. It has held up to regular all day long use.I have never been disappointed with a Bosh tool. This is no exception.

5Is this for you? A: yes!
By Russell J. Schampers
Let me just say that I was urged to buy a variable speed grinder by my dad who has owned his (and probably a few others) fair share of tools and let me tell you he was right and I urge you to GET A VARIABLE SPEED GRINDER.After reading some reviews on other resources than here it looked like some bosch grinders really had great balance and let me tell you I was definitely not disappointed.Besides what others have said about the variable speed, and the slow startup (both very nice features btw) I would like to add some other comments however. The balance on this grinder is absolutely amazing. Everything feels so smooth I've even one handed some things and felt totally comfortable doing so (of course, I wouldn't recommend for others to do the same as it isn't the safest).I have used this tool on a range of mediums, from sanding down some wood edges with the grit wheels, to taking down a fiberglass sub box I've been creating, to cutting off some loose screws hanging from the studs in my garage. Through all the tools has felt wonderfully balanced and incredibly receptive to whatever you toss at it.2 things no one else has mentioned yet is that the cord is made out of the higher quality rubber/plastic and is the type where when it is in extreme cold temperatures it stays malleable and flexible. This is a relief to some other corded tools that stiffen up horribly in the cold. Also, I will say the only downside i have to this tool is that the trigger is extremely difficult to press forward and hold forward, so I nearly ALWAYS find myself locking the grinder on. Now at first I saw this as a semi significant con, but after using it more I realized I never use the grinder unless I'm using it for at least 3 mins to which I would use the lock on feature anyway. Furthermore the tool has a nice feature that defeats the lock on in the event that you are plugging the tool in (hence if you forgot or somehow bumped the switch into the locked on position, the tool will not start up when plugged in until taken off the locked on mode, and pressed back forward)All in all, this is my favorite tool in the garage so far, and that says a lot.

5Very nice saw
By Rob Landry
I first used this saw as a rental from a local rental yard and if it can stand up to rental usage, it can take anything. I think this is what sold me on this particular saw when I went shopping. Having never owned a Bosch tool (plenty of Hitachi, Milwaukee and Makita) before, I was hesitant, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the features: all ball and needle bearing construction with metal gears and a sealed motor with overload protection. It has the largest blade guard of all the saws I looked at and the quick release clamp makes setup a little faster. It is well made and is constructed of metal except for the handle grip. If its heft is a sign of its quality, it's a good saw! At 42 pounds, she's a handful to lug around.

This saw has seen some pretty extensive use and it handles all jobs with relative ease. I've used it on angle iron, round tube, square stock and 2-inch induction hardened hydraulic cylinder shaft; hard stuff!

I've used many different brands of chop saws and in all honesty, there are only minor differences between the top models. A chop saws ability to cut efficiently is VERY dependant on the blade. Most new users simply use the blade the manufacturer supplied and consider the saw flawed if it doesn't meet their expectations. My advice, try different blades and don't go cheap! Not only will a good blade cut faster, it will last longer and will be easier on the saw's motor. The above reviewer mentioned that his blade "walked" and cut into the saw's base; not the saw's fault, the blade flexed under pressure. A good reinforced blade will not do this.

All in all, I'm pleased with its performance. To sweeten the deal, my dealer threw in a 5-inch Bosch angle grinder (1711A) free. Now I guess I own two Bosch tools.

5Super saw
By pg purtee
I rented this exact saw from the tool rental before I bought my own. I cut several pieces of 3x3 steel box tubing 3/16 wall. It cut these with ease. You must remember that cutting metal in a chop saw is a lot different than cutting wood in a chop saw. This is a must have tool! Don't waste your money on cheap Chinese junk.

Only the second chop saw I've owned, but the quality appears to excellent. Love the extended spark shield. The cord is too stiff, but a great saw.

5Excellent fully manual transit and level.
By Victor Blake
I wanted the best quality optical transit/level I could find, but at a low cost. Without going to automatic (self-leveling, etc.) -- I found this to be the best deal I could find. It's easy to setup and use. In particular the optical plumment is great for locating directly on top of benchmarks/stakes. I use mine for fence work, calculating areas, site work in restoring my barn, and mostly for outside plant grade/level work. For my use, it has been a great investment. I use it year round and have found the optics to be tolerant of severe weather extremes and easy to use in high or low light. I work by myself, and also found it easily portable (light) and quick to setup and take down.

5Great Instrument
By B. Levesque
As an engineer, I didn't have need of a highly accurate instrument, but wanted something more durable and accurate than that you'd find at Home Depot or Sears. This David White gun is durable (metal construction), is smooth turning and has a bright, easy to sight through scope. You'd pay twice this much at a surveyors' supply store for a transit of this calibre. My only caveat is that on my scope, the internal focusing carriage was loose on arrival, but this was an easy fix.All in all a good value for the money.

5David White transit level with optical plummet
By MikeR
This transit is a less expensive alternative to the theodolite. It is extremely accurate at 200', but a little difficult to see a line at that distance. The optical plummet is worth the extra cost to get a more accurate reading. Unless you are doing multiple layouts on the same site where a total station or a theodolite is necessary, this transit should be all you need for laying out buildings, straightening steel buildings, fencing, or any other type of layouts
