5Ideal home/small office printer
By Stephen M. Bainbridge
My IT people bought me the HP 2100 for use as a personal printer in my university office. I liked it so much that I bought one for my home office to replace an old HP 4L. It has been an excellent purchase and I highly recommend this printer. When working at home, I now have the print speed to download and print out legal decisions from the web or Lexis, which was too painful to contemplate with the slow speeds of the HP 4L. I get 8-10 pages per minute regardless of whether the printer is set for draft or top quality modes. So only the longest legal decisions take more than a couple of minutes. Of course, as a law professor, I'm not often printing out graphics intensive files. Charts and figures do slow down the print speed some, so a more graphics intensive user might want to look at alternatives. I'm also not using it in a network environment at home and, at work, I don't share it with other users. So, again, your mileage may vary.

Both of my HP 2100 have been extremely reliable. They are quiet, the paper never jams, they have a reasonably large main paper tray, handle single sheet feeds fine. I've generated several camera ready texts on my HP 2100 using the top quality print settings and had no complaints from readers or publishers, So for a low-volume, mostly text setting, this seems like an ideal printer.

5This printer is amazing!
By Bob Kniaz
The last reviewer who gave this one star has no idea what he's talking about. This is a spectacular printer, head and shoulders above a LaserJet 4. Quality is MUCH better, speed is much improved AND it's smaller overall. All the software worked perfectly out of the box. I just plugged it in and Windows2000 did it all. All I do is click "print" in Word and it's perfect.

1This product is unsatisfactory
By A Customer
I bought this printer to replace an HP Laserjet 4. We print a lot of pictures of houses as we are real estate brokers & appraisers. The printer would not print the pictures in the 1200 x 1200 mode. The tech blamed it on the software. The printer also does not have paper recognition for the two available trays, so when you print out something in say MS word, you have to go tell it what tray to use everytime. We didn't have to do that with the HP Laserjet 4, the right tray was choosen automatically. This printer has a long way to go. We sent it back

5My Great (Old) Printer!
By Doctor Dan
Almost everyone who writes reviews on amazon.com will write about some NEW item that they've recently bought. Since I ONLY write about things that I actually own and use, and have genuine 'merit',I'm usually at the 'tail end' of things. But my 'reviews' are based on my real-life experience(s). Here's a case in point - my trusty HP Deskjet 895cxi inkjet printer - six years later.I actually bought an HP 842 inkjet printer back in '03 and only noticed a pallet of HP895cxi printers on my way out the door of the store. They were about $40 more than what I had paid for the 842 but looked more robust and the boxes were labelled 'Professional Series' and 'suitable for small workgroups'. I thought about that (and the fact that it had a more robust internal mechanism)and didn't open the 842's box at all. Instead, I returned the unopened 842 and paid the extra $40 for this printer. What a WONDERFUL decision! It's been a terrific printer over the past six years! It's built the way I wish things were still made - it's a "tank" with long-lasting virtues. Thousands of prints later I still enjoy its really quiet and smooth operation, its reliability, and the economy of much larger ink cartridges than newer models use these days. Coupled with HP's inks and HP's papers I have had YEARS of total satisfaction with my printing on everything from 20 pound 'everyday' HP papers up to much heavier 'index' stock, even with the U-shaped paper path typical of most HP printers of its time. And that U-shaped paper path makes for a compact and convenient location on a 15" deep shelf conveniently located within 'arms-length' from my computer desk! With many folks giving new-found attention to 'value-for-the-dollar' in the tight economy of today's markets, I'd suggest seeking out one of these(they're still around, even here on amazon.com) for a cost-effective solution to most home-based printing needs. And, I'd also strongly suggest sticking with the predictable reliability of ONLY using genuine HP inks and papers ALL the time - at least with this printer. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of today's newer generation of printers but it's truly MY "Great Old Printer"! Highly recommended and another FIVE STAR item!!!!!

4SOLID
By CL
I've had this printer for probably ten years! (Well, I have the Cse version, but not really any different). It's solid. As long as I give it some new ink every once in a while, it just keeps on going! There are probably much newer, better, faster printers out there now, but this one is a workhorse!

5Workhorse printer going strong after 12 years
By Linda
I bought this printer in 1999. It has been the only printer I've used at home ever since. It rarely jams, smudges or fails in any way. My husband just took it apart and cleaned it inside. We printed a few test pages and its running just like new. Why can't everything be built as solid as as HP used to make their gear? I'm sure this will run another 10 years if HP keeps making the ink cartridges!

5Best Printer for the Money
By Tony Corrao
I have used my 4500 for about 6 months now and could not be more in love with it. I have owned about 6-7 color inkjets before this and finally made the big move to color laser. You can print perfect photos on just about any kind of paper. I would like to see some "true" glossy paper on the market for photos, however. Most specialty papers for inkjet printers (mostly glossy) will not work with the laserjet because of the heat. Keep in mind you can not do heat transfers with a laserjet printer. There are four cartridges that make up the 4500's color. They are VERY expensive, but I am still using the same one that came with the printer and have printed well over a thousand photos. Long term is much cheaper to run than an inkjet.

5Quality, Quality, Quality
By Patricia A. Powell
This is a great color printer. I have been using this in my office since the beginning of the year. The quality of the color is unbelievable. When I use it with my hp scanner, it is difficult to tell the difference between the original and the scanned output. While I haven't used it with a digital camera, I suspect that the result is similar.

Negatives are few. Obviously, the purchase price is a factor. It is also expensive to operate in comparison to ink jet printers. Each color has its own cartrige, which costs about $100. While the printer comes with a starter set, you'll want a spare of each color. Just think... you're printing that perfect digital image of your favorite subject, and the blue runs out. These cartriges are not stocked at your local office supply store. If you have any significant volume of printing, you will need to purchase a replacement drum kit. (I know it sounds odd, but this is normal.) You may also want to add on a duplexer; this costs over twice the cost of a duplexer on most other printers.

I don't quite agree with the other reviewers about the speed of this printer in black and white. If you are comparing it to low end desk jet printers, then I guess that they are right. If you are looking for speed in black and white, then I suggest that you look at the hp 4000n. While the 4500c is the fastest true "COLOR" printer that I have seen, it takes much longer to warm up then other printers. When you are just sending 2 or 3 sheets, get a cup of coffee while you wait.

If you are networking printers, you can be both time and cost efficient by also networking a fast black and white printer such as the hp 4000n, as well as a low end desk jet for the quick draft print.

There are three reasons to spend this amount of money on this printer. 1. Quality 2. Quality and 3. Quality. I highly recommend this printer.

5Very Pleased with My Investment!
By C. Parent
I print A LOT of graphs and charts on both paper and transparencies. I was very happy to see how well this printer handled them. Using HP Transparencies the printing quality was consistent and clean. No jams at all. Using plain 20lb copy paper, quality was even and bright. You can load up your media and literally walk away knowing that when you come back everything will be printed without having to "baby-sit" the machine. With the amount of printing I do (10K+ a month) that is very important to me. Hope this review helps people in their choice for a color laser printer.

5If you want the bst audio experience
By A Customer
This is simply the best audio processor I have owned (Denon and Onkyo pale by comparison) This receiver has ample Coax, Fiber, s-video, and RCA connections. (Sadly no composite video). You can create absolutely perfect reproductions with the onscreen programming. Each channel of sound coming in lists if its to low, high or reference. You adjust the gain so that each audio channel is staying within refernece (For instance my VCR is +22, the CD player is -5) In addition you can use any audio and any video source at the same time - say your listening to a CD and want to watch DSS or DVD, no problem. You set the distance from the listener to the speakers, so the speakers have the correct volume. You also have 6 channel input as well. The finest DSP you can purchase

5Great sound and flexibility
By Jason P. Gold
I bought a Sig 2.0/2.1 combo because my speakers are 25 years old, the size of small coffins, and have low impeadances. They love current. Even with 45 amps of current, the protection circuits in my old HK AVR500 would kick in under heavy (i.e., cranked to the max) loads, and shut the unit off.SO, I decided to purchase a Sig 2.0 preamp and 2.1 amplifier. The total price was about the same as as HK's equivalent receiver. That makes it a very good deal.IMPRESSIONS:Sound: The 2.1 amp is beautiful. It blows away the amps in my Harman Kardon AVR500, which itself sounds really good. The 2.0 preamp also sounds better, but not to the same degree. It is a bit dry sounding, but very clean, articulate and uncolored. This is truly a high end audiophile piece of equipment, built in the US by Madrigal, the division of Harman Kardon which makes Mark Levinson and other high priced, high end audio equipment. It appears to use many of the same components.I did an a/b comparison between the 6 channel out my JVC DVD-Audio player and the HK. I also did an a/b comparison with a Sony SACD/DVD player and a Yamaha C-750 universal player. The HK's processors are noticably better sounding on PCM, DTS and Dolby Digital sources than the direct 6 channel outputs on these truly good sounding and well reviewed pieces of equipment. The Good: The tuner has very good reception and sound with lots of presets and RDS, which displays text information sent by some radio stations. The unit has lots of inputs (6 pair stereo RCA, 4 dig. coax, 2 optical, 6 channel direct, 6 component video, 2 s-video) and outputs, and has exceptionally good configurability. Analog inputs can be balanced so that when going from one source to the next, the volume stays the same. It also has lots of processing modes: Pro Logic, DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Late Nite, Dolby Digital Mono, Mono Plus, four music modes and four movie modes. (However, lack of ability to control delay time between front and surround channels). (It is several years out of date, so it does not have ProLogic II.) Oh! It also has plain stereo. And, it looks good with an uncluttered industrial black aluminum appearance. It is solid and weighs 22 lbs, as much as many AV receivers. On the downside: It has poor bass management, a cheap universal remote control which is not backlit and which learns from other remotes, but has no built in programmable codes. There is no phono section. The unit makes a little squeeking noise every time my cd changes a track letting me know it figured out the format of the digital source material. The internal DACs do not feed to tape out. The implementation of Pro Logic leaves the music a bit blurred. Finally, HK went for looks rather than putting enough functional buttons on front.Wish list - A sleep timer.Overall, a really good product.Strengths:Very good sound quality, excelent value, lots of inputs and outputs and surround modesWeaknesses:Cheap remote which is not backlit, no phono section.

5Fantastic front end for your surround system!
By Phil P
If you are like me and find yourself with a surround system cobbled together from a collection of amplifiers and speakers, but don't have a good way to bring it all together...look no further! Don't replace all those amps with an "all in one box" surround system just because it's a hassle balancing all those descrete channels...

The Signature 2.0 processor/tuner/preamp is just what you need. It has an analog 6 channel input for your DVD Audio player, digital inputs, optical inputs, S-video outputs, it's all here... And talk about quiet? This preamp is absolutely silent. Maximum flexibility in assigning inputs, no changing cables, just reroute them via menu (onscreen or front panel) control!

The onboard processors are as smooth as silk, and the built-in effects (to add surround depth to stereo CDs) are subtle and never gimmicy. HK spent alot of time on this one! It is super.

There is only one thing about this unit that I have to work around...the remote sensor in the front panel is rather narrow sighted and I find myself almost out of range a fair part of the time;whos living room is a perfect listening room? I will have to add an IR remote sensor to compensate.

Please note that this is a deep cabnet, and it is heavy. Over-engineered it seems, since the power supply is clearly big enough to handle the consumption of this unit.

The perfect solution for those of you who want to use a couple of stereo systems in combination for a surround sound system! You will love it!

5Very nice mid-range receiver.
By A Customer
This receiver has excellent sound quality and more than enough power to please the average listener. It has many features found on higher priced models. The controls on the front are easy to use, though the remote is kind of cluttered, and there are certain functions you can only use with the remote. The remote does control my TV, VCR and cassette deck, though. I highly recommend this it if you're looking for an excellent receiver in this price range.

5Best Buy If You're An Audiophile Like Me With A Big Collecti
By A Customer
This is a great-sounding player to add to your home-theater system. One of the best features is that you can connect it to another 300 disc mega-changer for synchro operation. Another great feature is that it works with your current Pioneer equipment for remote control operation.

3Great sound and commodity. But is it reliable?
By Houlala
I had been waiting for such a CD player for a long time, and it was worth it as it sounds great and is very user friendly. I do love the random playing and was about to buy a second one when some trouble stopped me. After less than a year the title, best track selection and custom file memory just vanished away twice in very little time. I had to have it repaired three times to solve the problem. When the memory seemed to be OK, it finally failed again after 10 or 11 months and this time I have no guarantee. It is a pity because the other features are fantastic and it would have been a great buy without these problems.

5Excellent features for the price.
By A Customer
After nearly forgetting I had a CD player because the CD I wanted to listen to was never loaded when I wanted it, I decided to go for a jukebox style of player. This one had the most features (301 discs, 10 custom groups, 50 track best song memory, easy disc/artist naming) of any of the other players I looked at. The signal-to-noise ratio is better in some more pricey models, but I cannot tell the difference and they didn't have the features this one does.
