The lovliest Le Creuset ever!

I went mad when I first saw this amazing cassarole. Fans of the other shaped le creusets will love this beauty. Unlike the heart and shamrock designs, the pumpkin has a more realistic 3D shape. But what really impressed me was the daring offset handle on the lid. Genius! Of course, the shaped cassaroles have the same high quality of all of the le creuset pieces. I use mine mostly for stovetop dishes that finish in the oven. Of course, like all le creuset dishes, this one does double duty as tableware--but this time, with even more panache than usual! Okay, I'll quit gushing now. But I just love that pumpkin!

A great way to sample the product line

I do not think there is a better way to sample this product line than through the fun casserole pots. They are reasonably priced, much cheaper than the standard 2 quart casserole, and still carries the same quality. These are extremely heavy pans that distribute the heat evenly though what you are cooking. I like the pumpkin for the fall cooking, I also purchased the tomato as well for summer and other seasonal cooking. This holds your standard casserole recipes. This is great for a pot luck, I promise you will be able to identify your dish, and it just flat out looks attractive. The colors are bright and distinct. You will enjoy this pot for many years to come.

What Color, Great Fun, a Real Delight to Use!

I have collected all of Le Creuset's fruit and vegetable shaped cast iron enameled casseroles. This was the first one that I bought and I have used it the most. They are beautiful to display on a table or on a kitchen counter and very practical in cooking delightful casseroles, soups, stews and other wonderful dishes. The color that they can add to a kitchen brightens every vist there. The exterior and interior enamel coating is very durable and easy to clean. I have cooked a multitude of dishes in these casseroles and have found them to be excellent in heat conduction and preventing "hot spots". The wider and lower shaped casseroles are a little better in spreading the heat.The warranty against defects of 101 years will certainly last beyond my expected needs but it is nice to know that I have the protection since these are not inexpensive purchases.The comments of guests served from these casseroles is always positive and never fails to bring a smile to my face.There is a drawback to these whimsical cookers and that is the rim of both the top and bottom of the casseroles. There is no enamel on these rims and they can rust if not dried immediately after hand washing. They are dishwasher safe but I do recommend that you hand wash and dry immediately. I also recommend that you let them sit out for an hour or so to air dry before storing them.When wet this casserole can be very slippery and the handles on the bottom and top help in preventing dropping them. Be really careful!Finally, closely inspect your casserole when it arrives. My first garlic casserole had a two inch crack in the enamel. I did not have to contact Le Crueset since Amazon.com immediately sent a replacement to me and had the defective item picked up at my home at no charge. I commend them for standing behind the products they sell.

The wisdom of the crowd

There has been an enormous influx of pens from China, Taiwan, and India that have appeared on the market. Many of these are absurdly cheap and some quite decent. But one stands above all the rest--TWSBI. These pens were, essentially, crowdsourced. They were built to incorporate the considerable input of rabid fountain pen users. The result is the most user-friendly pen on the market. The filling system is a clever piston converter with a tremendous ink capacity. The nibs are tops in their class and, in the opinion of many, tops in any class including the most expensive offerings. Should anything go wrong, the customer service is incredible, going to almost any lengths to ensure that the customer is happy.

Wonderful product, even though it's specialized

The only reason why this doesn't get the last star, in my book, is because of its somewhat limited usefulness. However, if you live in an apartment or otherwise anywhere where grilling is impossible, this is the next best thing....like all other Le Creuset products this heats evenly and wonderfully and takes abuse. I got mine as part of a 6-piece set (along with a Dutch Oven, Baking Pan, and Casserole) and sorta at first saw this as a "filler" piece. However, to it's credit, this pan can do even easilly-burned items like tofu dogs and fake bacon WONDERFULLY, which shocked me--I was convinced that nothing could give a "grilled" effect to those items. I even got adventerous the first time I used it and grilled some apple rings. I panicked when some sugar seemed to be burnt on for good despite a good soaking, but after the pot had been dried and put away for 48 hours it flaked right off. Forget what you know about nonstick surfaces, btw, and banish those bad memories of cruddy, flaking Teflon from the 70's. Just treat this well (I only use wooden utensils on it) and it will treat you well. Follow the instructions and enjoy! Just be sure to use a potholder and realize that once this thing gets hot it STAYS hot for a LONG time.

You'll eat more veggies and fish! Healthy and tasty!

Wow, I love this pan! I also live in an apartment, so this is a great substitute for outdoor grilling when you want a quick dinner. It's not as good as the outdoor charcoal grill, but this has some advantages. It's super easy. I use this pan several times a week. I pre-heat the pan, brush a little canola oil to the ribs, and while it warms up to the right temperature, I prepare the food. I cut some veggies (can use zucchini, squash, small eggplant, onions, bell pepper, etc), on the bias, so there's more surface area, toss with olive oil, salt & pepper, and grill. You may have to do several rounds of it if you have lots of veggies. After cooking until just tender, toss with a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil. DELICIOUS!! Also, we've been grilling some great local wild salmon on this pan. It is unbelievable. It is very quick, so don't overcook. Season with salt and pepper, and anything you like. Just practice a couple times, experiment with the temperature and your technique, and you'll see how easy and tasty it is. If you can get some homegrown or organic produce, it's so much more tasty. Simple grilling complements good ingredients.

MANY A MEAL FROM THIS SQUARE DEAL!

(1) Where is it written, who decreed that skillets should be round? (2) Why has it taken me so long to discover the advantages of a square fry pan?

The answers are: nowhere that I know of, and because my mother always used a round skillet. She would have loved this enameled cast iron beauty that leaves appetizing sear marks on meat - a char effect without the mess. The ribbed base captures grease allowing for healthier low fat cooking, and the surface is a satiny black enamel that cleans in a breeze.

It's compatible with all heating surfaces, and has an easy hold comfortable handle. We lightly applied vegetable oil to the ribs before our first use, and for several times thereafter. Since then there has been no need for the addition of oils. By heating the grill for a few minutes on medium heat (test with a drop of water and heat until water droplets sizzle) we've found the cooking surface primed for superior cooking.

This nifty item has such a plethora of uses - it can be used in the oven (keep your oven glove at the ready) or even on a backyard barbecue.

Terrific value

I own a bunch of high-end fountain pens, including a Delta Dolce Vita oversize, Conway-Stewart Churchill, Montblanc 149, Pelikan M1000, Omas 360, etc. This pen writes with the best of them. It's a fairly large pen - I wouldn't own it if it wasn't, as I prefer large pens - but very comfortable in the hand. It's a dream writer and the best value I've ever seen. It's elegant in design, and writes smoothly and flawlessly. I can't say enough about what a great value this pen is.

Large Enough

when I purchased this pot I wasn't sure if it would hold enough for four. It does. It cleans up great and cooks slow and evenly. If you have a family of large eaters you may want to go up a size or two. The oval shape allows for longer roasts to fit well. One pound of dry beans will cook just fine even adding ham for seasoning. LC lives up to its reputation for quality.

An essential kitchen pot

Le Creuset makes a high quality enameled cast-iron pot that will last the cook a lifetime. The secret to its long life is to care for it properly. Do not use harsh cleansers on the inner lining and you will have a pot that cooks like a dream for 40 years or more. Use a wooden or teflon coated spoon to stir your ingredients to avoid damage to the lining. The cast-iron core allows for extremely even cooking, no hot spots where your burner is. It is of course oven-proof and looks good enough to put on the table as well. I particularly like the oval shape as it allows the browning of say a roast or other oblong food. The size is also just right for those who cook for 4-6 people. I know these pots are expensive, but quality cookware pays off in the long run. Better to have one great pot than 3 cheapy ones that do not do justice to your cooking efforts. I have had a pot like this for over 35 years and still use it almost daily. I highly recommend this brand.

Very happy with this set

When I decided I wanted this set it was "temporarily unavailable" on Amazon, and I did not want to wait. So, I found it locally at a store that is taking over the world. They had it in red, and just a few bucks less. This was perfect, because it matches my red and white ceramic baking set.What isn't shown in the picture is the 2 pans shown uncovered are actually a perfect fit for the 2 smallest lids. So all 5 pans in this set can be covered, just not at the same time.I do really enjoy cooking in these pans. All of the lids have steam-holes. I like cooking rice in the saucepan because I don't have the problems of boiling over or sticking to the bottom like my old ones. So far, nothing has stuck to these pans. They have been easy to cook with and easy to clean.I had been researching and shopping around for a new pan set for a while and decided on the wearever pure living set for several reasons. I wanted to stop using teflon. I like my cast iron, but it's not always convenient, nor is it truly non-stick. I considered hard anodized aluminum, but learned that cooking in those pans added aluminum to food, especially when cooking acidic foods such as lemon or tomato sauce. Also many such pans are still coated with teflon.Once I decided on ceramic coated pans, this pan set was an easy choice. I found significantly lower reviews on other similarly priced pans. I did find some sets that were reviewed just as highly, but they were far more expensive. And not all of them were cadmium-free. Plus this wearever set has silicone handles, so they can safely go in the oven. I really like that.In summary, I'm quite happy with my choice. I feel like I bought the best pans I could have in my price range.

I love this set

Pros:- healthier than most non-stick ones on the market (I wouldn't touch Teflon with a 9 foot pole)- the price is reasonable- the pieces are just the right shape and size- sturdy, not too light, heats pretty evenly- not nearly as heavy as enameled cast iron (which supposed to be THE healthiest cookware), which is great for the wrists- they do not slide around on my gas burner as some of my other pots.- cleans up really nicely and without effort. Seriously, no other cookware I owned before cleaned up as easily as this one, inside and out. A wipe of a sponge with a drop of dishsoap is all it takes, rinse, done. For this reason, I havent even felt the need to put it in the dishwasher - saving energy.- it is husband-proof, even when he overboiled or burnt something, it cleaned up just as easily.- the handles stay cool and they are comfortable, I especially like the larger lid handles- the lids fit well and the tiny vent hole in the lid allows some steam to escape, preventing pressure from lifting the lid. No need to prop up the lid with a wooden spoon.- the lids are also heat proof and can be used in the oven as well- looks nice, the color goes with just about anything- I like the white interior, I can actually see how clean it is- made in USA, YAY, I'd like more manufacturing to return home. Sick of seeing contaminated Asian junk flooding our stores. (sorry, I couldn't resist adding that)Cons:- can't think of any at this point.- don't care for the utensil set that came with it. I prefer silicone utensils.We have been heavily using the set daily for 2 months now and it is still perfect, inside and out. I like it so much that I ordered a second set. That never happened before with a cookware set.

I have a 7 year old WearEver Stainless cookware set that I've enjoyed, but it hasn't been the easiest set to fry certain foods in (sticking issues). Looking for healthier alternatives to non-stick - I stumbled across the reviews for this set and took a gamble.With WearEver brand sets it is hit or miss - some are robust and very well built, others seem thin and flimsy, but this set is truly fantastic. The gold tone is very pretty, the white ceramic interior is amazing. We had accidently left a near empty pot of gravy on a lit element for over an hour, and nothing burned, warped, or melted -- in fact, the pot wiped clean, no scrubbing needed. We have cooked spaghetti sauce and indian sauces in the pans - no stains have resulted. The ceramic is more non-stick than any teflon pan I have ever had. I like this set over the other set available because of the pan sizes included. I wish amazon would stock this more readily -- I have sent several friends over to buy a set but it always shows 'out of stock'***Note: I purchased the 10 piece set, although my review is popping up under the 5 piece set. I don't know why they can't keep the 10 pc in stock, it is a much more user-friendly donfiguration of pans.

Great Investment - Great Food

My wife and I purchased a LeCruset pot three years ago and use it frequently. It truly creates an oven-like amosphers right on the stove top. Our range has settings from 1 through 8 and we never set the element under this pot above a four. It heats up quickly and holds its heat seemingly forever. Yes, it was rather pricey, but we feel it was worth the investment. The best of any product is always pricey. The interior enamel is slightly stained from use, but I'd guess that's to be expected. We wouldn't hesitate to make the investment all over again.

Think before buying

I remember my grandma using the LeCreuset dutch/french ovens. She had them for some 30+ years before she passed away (LeCreuset survived her). I have always been impressed by the longevity of LeCreuset products. Of course, while they last, they may get chipped, or get dull, but I don't care about that. I don't need shiny, brand new looking cooking utensils. I care about the results, and there I think LeCreuset can not be beat. If you are into "slow-food" LeCreuset is your choice.

So yes, as one of the reviewers pointed out, LeCreuset might outlive your kitchen design, or it may not look as fancy as All-Clad and whatever else show-off cooking ware is out there, but you have to think about what you are looking for in your pots and pans.

I am aware that the prices are rather steep, but like most things, in the long run you spend less. I bought cheap pots and pans before which I then had to throw away because they became uneven and just would not conduct the heat evenly on an electric stove. I will gladly invest some more money into a LeCreuset and keep it for the next decades to come.

Great for the tasks for which it's intended

First, I couldn't disagree more with the person who claimed getting one of these "sets" of the same line of cookware is a desirable thing. They tend to be overpriced and feature things you rarely use. (Notice they never feature a 5 qt sauté pan - but you can always count on some useless little 8 or 10-inch "omelette pan.")

If you do any serious cooking, you know that certain cookware types are great for some tasks but not others. This goes for Le Creuset, copper, All-Clad Yuppieware, or whatever else. With that in mind, Le Creuset is made for - and best at - braising, stews, and other slow cooking. It's fabulous for things that go into the oven after starting on the stovetop (osso buco etc.). Yes, you should take care to use wooden spoons instead of metal on the enamel. And no, it doesn't fire up quickly. Then again, neither does All-Clad, it's much touted "inner layer " of aluminum notwithstanding. If you need to quickly sear things, black'n'blue steaks, etc. get yourself copper or Calphalon Pro Hard-anodized, both of which are much better heat conductors than steel.

If you want to make Coq au Vin, curries, and other things that simmer gently or need to be finished in the oven, this is your guy.

These glasses look great. Item is authentic made in Italy. You receive Gucci box, eyeglass cloth, and hard Gucci eyeglass case. Quality. Great price. These glasses were $299 and up retail. Like them so much, I'm considering ordering a 2nd pair for future use because in the past some of my favorite frames were discontinued.

C'est magnifique...at first

I spent countless hours pouring over the various reviews of all the different Dutch ovens out on the market and in the end, this is the one that I ended up with. I have no regrets and this purchase only reinforces the old adage that you get what you pay for. Provided you don't do something stupid--like pouring ice cold liquids onto a blazing hot enameled surface--this pot should last a lifetime. More than I could say for the cheaper Chinese-made pots on the market. Lodge, Calphalon and Rachel Ray have got nothing on this pot.When I first started looking at a decent enameled Dutch oven, I just wanted something to braise meats. Now that I have it, I go out of my way to find recipes that will allow me to use this pot. At first I thought it would be too small for the size meals that I often prepare for family dinner night. But it could easily hold a 6 to 8 pound roast or a small chicken. I looked a the 7-1/4 quart pot but found it to be a bit too heavy and was afraid it wouldn't fit in the cabinet. The 5-1/2 quart is the right balance of size and weight, fits conveniently in the drawer with my other cookware and it looks wonderful in the kitchen and on the dining room table.The enameled surface is extremely durable. I have accidentally left it on high heat and scorched the surface but it cleans up just fine without any vigorous scrubbing. The light cream colored interior is perfect for seeing the color of the liquids. The handles are sized right and the lid fits tightly. It's a joy to use and if I had any complaint about it, it would be the weight.Update:Since I bought this pot over 5 years ago, it has gotten quite a bit of use. Unfortunately, it's also beginning to show some signs of wear. The edges of the rim on the outside glazing has a few small chips. The interior has a stain that I can't seem to remove. But the worst problem has been that the lid no longer fits tightly. Either the lid or the pot has developed a warp and the lid only seems to fit when turned to a specific spot. I noticed that the newer Le Creuset Dutch ovens now have a more substantial lid to prevent this sort of thing. For this I have to knock off a star from my rating. But only one star, because, in all fairness, I can send it back under warranty and have it replaced.

You cannot go wrong with this. You will own this forever, it will become a staple in your kitchen. Nothing sticks to it, it goes from stove top to oven, you can use it for practically everything you cook.

You get what you pay for

...and my husband is getting our money's worth out of this gem. Watch the chefs on TV and you'll see it in action. Compare it to other, less expensive cookware; Le Creuset is worth the price tag. Expect everything from this oven: even cooking, miraculously easy clean-up, and I'll bet it's indestructible. It's gone from stovetop to oven, from soups and stews to spaghetti sauce. It's a good thing it's so attractive since it never gets put away. If you're a serious cook, you should own this.

TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!

My sister has been looking for a convenient closet for a while and couldn't find it. I finally found and ordered this closet for my niece, it is JUST amazing and worth every penny. My sister LOVES it and it is soooo convenient. You can put it anywhere you want and it is so cute, you actually get in the mood to organize the clothes and keep it neat. Creuset Casseroles are the Best

The single best pots for doing rich chicken dishes and the like. Conducts heat perfectly, well-balanced and very easly to clean. So many great meals have emerged from these pots that I tend to cook more frequently, especially the more slow-cooking or complex dishes.

I inheirited one of these pots and then bought another. Since then I have excused all similar imitations from the kitchen.

If I had to equipt my kitchen with 3 cooking pots/pans, this would come right after the skillet and sauce pan.

Le Creuset cookware

I have loved the two pieces of LeCreuset that I ordered. I have a glass cooktop (which I curse!) and cookware has to be absolutely flat for good heat transfer. Through the years I have tried various brands (Calphalon, Farberware, etc) and Le Creuset is the best I have ever used. The lid seals tightly, making for an energy efficient design. It has been easy to clean as well and looks great! I purchased my first piece in order to bake my favorite no-knead bread recipe: it requires a covered pot to bake it at 450 degrees, and few cookware brands have handles that can withstand that high a temperature. Le Creuset does, and has performed beautifully. It is also great for braising and stewing. Follow directions and do not use the highest heat setting, it is uneccessary and can damage the pot.

Wonderful product

This French Oven is just the right size for the two of us. I can fill it halfway for a typical meal, or make a double recipe in order to freeze some for another time. It browns things well, goes easily from stove-top to oven, holds the heat in during long simmering, cleans up quickly with a little soak in warm water, and looks great. I have owned some other products from Le Creuset, and they never disappoint.Judy
