5Why settle for less?
By A Customer
The sound quality is excellent. Having 300 disc capability with flexibility to program three, 32 track programs means that in reality, you can preprogram 96 songs or complete cd's. I've had mine for two months and love it. Everybody that looks at it wants one of their own.

3Comme ci, comme ca
By D. Shinn
I've had the Sony 300 CD/DVD changer for several years now, and I have only one bone to pick with it, and that's that it doesn't recognize all CD/DVDs. I'm not sure if that's because older CD/DVDs can't be scanned, or if it's a glitch in the changer. All I know is that I still have to rely on my memory and the way I've organized my collection to be able to find about 40 percent of the CD/DVDs on this changer.plotdot

5Nice System, Misleading Product Description
By Andy Collins
I just got one of these from Amazon. It arrived on-time and undamaged. Thanks Amazon! So far it is amazing, though I have my work cut out for me typing in all the titles to 300 CDs, good thing I can use a keyboard. One misleading thing about the above description is that this unit does not come with a remote which has an LCD display. I am a little disappointed about this since I was looking forward to that feature. Amazon - please correct the description. Other than that I love it. Great price too!

4Even more useful than I thought..
By Nicolas Pottier
I needed a CD changer, and was deliberating between a 5 disc changer and one of the newer 300 disc changers. In the end I decided to go with the Sony CX-300 as it's a great bargain, and since it was a Sony like my receiver (STR DB-930) I could use my receiver's remote to view the disc titles. (just like the remote that comes with the more expensive CX-350)

The unit isn't as tall as I expected, maybe twice the height of a normal CD player, though it is very deep (~18"). It feels sturdy and solid, and looks like it ought to last a while. Loading CD's and entering their titles (as others have said, CD-Text does not seem widely adopted at all, so don't count on this to save you time) was painless, provided you hook up your PC keyboard to do so. I loaded about 60 CD's in 20 minutes without any problems.

The controls on the player are nice, it uses two main knobs to control what disc and track is playing. You also use these knobs to enter in titles for CD's if not using a keyboard, which works relatively well if you're just adding one CD at a time.

You can assign each CD to a group, and name that group. For example, I have a group containing all my Sting and Police albums. You can then have the player shuffle all the discs in that group seperately, or just play through them all. Like all the other jukeboxes I've seen, the CX-300 allows CD's to belong to only one group, which is somewhat annoying. However, it's easy to move discs to different groups, so if you want to arrange a group of CD's for a dinner party or whatnot, you can do so in a couple minutes.

The remote is plain but functional, it appears that it will control 3 of these units daisy chained together. (I need a lot more CD's to make this worthwhile however)

One caveat for those planning on using this player with an A1 compatible receiver as I am. My receiver (Sony STR-DB930) automatically switches to the CD RCA input when it get's the 'play' signal from the CD changer. Unfortunatly, this leads to somewhat lower quality than the digital input, but if you plan on being able to view the titles of CD's, you need to allow for this. I've gotten around it by connecting both the optical digital input and RCA jacks. Once I get the player going on the music I want (and once you get it going you don't need to touch it for hours at a time) I switch the input on my receiver to the optical cable for the best sound. This is an inconvenience, and I'm not sure why Sony designed things this way, but it's a relatively minor one for the gadget factor of being able to see the CD titles on my remote.

I would highly recommend one of the newer jukebox players like the CX300. You'll end up listening to music you had long forgotten about, without any repetition, and with less wear and tear on the discs themselves. I just press play and go about my business these days, and the player chugs along feeding me good tunes... that's how it should be.

4Fabulous!
By Higher Ed Technologist
This is an excellent addition to my stereo system. Despite being a large unit, this 300 CD changer has saved me SO much space--I have said goodbye to jewel boxes forever. I love the grouping and 'hit list' features that allow you to arrange your discs in easily accessible and discernable categories. My one complaint--don't be fooled by the "CD Text" feature which claims to automatically enter data from 'equipped' discs. In fact, only about 5 of my 275+ CDs are so equipped. Be prepared to type those titles in yourself. But that's a small complaint. As the other reviewer said, this unit does NOT come with the remote with LCD display. It is the Sony CDP-CX-350 that does, for $ more.

5Makes Settlers even better
By Michael Fehlauer
If you're reading this, you no doubt are already a fan of Settlers of Catan. You're deliberating, trying to decide if you want to shell out more $ for this expansion. "Is it worth it?", you ask.

As one Settlers fan to another, allow me to encourage you. Yes, it is definitely worth it!

Seafarers adds additional water and land tiles, as well as an additional land type: Gold Field. Gold field works like every other resource, except that when the number comes up you get to pick *any* resource card.

The game also includes little ships, of four colors. These ships function just like roads, and can be joined to roads through a settlement. You use them to explore from the mainland of Catan in search of additional lands (and additional resources).

The rulebook contains several scenarios, accomadating 3 or 4 players. Some scenarios start with all lands revealed, other scenarios include an exploration element. In these scenarios, only the mainland is revealed: the surrounding seas and the other land tiles are placed face down. These are turned over when a ship reaches them, revealing either a sea, in which case exploration must continue, or a land, in which case the discovering player gets one card of that land's resource.

You can see that one of the best things about Settlers, the random board setup, is made even better by hiding the concealing the nature of the unexplored tiles.

My only complaint is that the rulebook, which contains diagrams of specific tile layouts for each scenario, is printed in such a way that it is hard to read. The text is understood easilly enough, but the board layouts are dark and indistinct.

But this complaint is minor, and with practice is easilly remedied. Seafarers is a terrific expansion that makes the already great game of Settlers even better.

4A simple, great expansion for Settlers of Catan
By Thomas J. Vasel
The Settlers of Catan is a fantastic game, and it would seem that in the board game world that means that a sequel was inevitable. So, eventually the Seafarers of Catan (Kosmos and Mayfair Games, 1997 - Klaus Teuber) was released. It was a fitting expansion, and so simple were the add-on rules, that I almost always include it in with the base game. The game offers very few more choices with the expansion included, and the amount of scenarios included with the book are excellent; some of them are truly fun! The Seafarers expansion adds a number of things to the base game, including...1.) Gold Fields: These are basically "wild" hexes that produce whatever resource the player wants if they have a settlement or a city bordering them. This makes the gold fields very valuable, with everyone wanting a piece of the action. The scenarios counter this by putting gold fields in hard to reach places, with less than an optimal number on them, like a "3". Still, it doesn't stop me from trying to get to them!2.) Water Hexes: As well as adding in some additional hexes of each of the five resources (and the gold hexes), twelve water hexes are added to the game. When combined with the fourteen edge pieces that hold all the hexes together, one can create many maps - many with more than one island. When using the water hexes, players usually start with their first two settlements on one island, and then must expand to the other islands. The edge pieces hold the board together in a large rectangle, keeping the tiles from sliding around on the table. Cities and Knights also comes with a frame; but it's more of a hexagonal one, allowing only the setup from the basic game - so I prefer the Seafarers one more.3.) Ships: Players expand in the seas with ship pieces. Each player receives fifteen ship pieces in their color at the beginning of the game. Ships cost one wool and one lumber to build (this raises the value of wool). Ships are placed between two water hexes and act similar to roads. In fact, the Longest Road (Now called the Longest Trade Route) now includes ships as well as roads. The first ship must be built next to a settlement on the shore, and then can be placed adjacent to other ships. Ships can also move, if they are the last ship in an "open" shipping lane (does not connect two cities). Players may move one ship per turn, to a location that they could have built. This makes ships sound more exciting than they really are - in reality, they aren't moved that often. But either way, the ships are a big improvement, and they are the only way to get to other islands. Players are allowed to start with a ship instead of a road if one of their starting settlements is on the coastline. Ships are the crux of the game (that IS why it's called "seafarers"); and while they don't add much in terms of complexity, they add one more option for players to explore and make games more interesting.4.) Special Victory Points: Some scenarios award special victory points - tokens included with the game. Many times this occurs when a player lands on a new island. This allows a scenario to dictate a change in strategy and a bit of variety to the game.5.) Pirate Ship: A pirate ship is added to the game and is the counterpoint to the Robber. Whenever a player rolls a "7", they may move the pirate ship instead of the Robber, placing the Pirate on any ocean hex. The player then can steal one resource from one of the players who has a ship adjacent to that hex. New ships can't be placed next to the Pirate, giving even more reason to move him. Either way, it seems that the Robber is moved a lot less in games involving the Pirate. This actually increases the power of the Robber, and the game can get slightly nastier. If the Robber is stifling the production of your best cities/settlements for dozens of turns, it can get rather annoying. Players must think even more carefully when moving the Robber/Pirate, and Soldier cards become that much more useful.6.) Scenarios: There are eleven scenarios included with the book, some of them rather good, others good for maybe one play or two. Either way, if a player would get tired of these scenarios, there is plenty more available on the internet. The first scenario, "New Shores", can be played many times, as it's basically the generic setup for Seafarers. The last two scenarios require multiple sets of the basic Settlers, so I'm not sure how often they'll come into play.Seafarers offers a lot of variety to Settlers without adding very many rules - probably the best epitaph an expansion can have. I won't say that it's necessary; indeed, one can play Settlers many times without the expansion and never miss it. But I doubt that you would return to basic Settlers after trying Seafarers - especially when you see the variety it includes. I'm certainly glad I picked the expansion up; Settlers fans will enjoy it greatly.Tom Vasel"Real men play board games."(...)

5Worthy expansion to the original game
By Chris Peters
Seafarers is a wonderful expansion, in that it adds new material to Settlers of Catan without destroying the wonderful game that it is. The ability to build ships as ocean-bound roads and "sail" to far away islands is great, and fits perfectly within the fictional world of Catan. You won't stop playing the original game, but rather you'll probably prefer a nice mix of original Settlers and Seafarers.

Seafarers simultaneously adds some wonderful balance to Settlers while destroying one of its strengths - the 5 resources are now fully balanced, and victory can come from many strategies. Wool is now an important resource, roads and ships are necessary through the very end of the game, and gold adds an important "super resource" element to the game. But the nature of Seafarers "ocean/island" maps means that most games require a pre-established scenario instead of a random map. While the scenarios are beautiful and very ingenius, playing them a few times makes them too familiar. I wish Mayfair would release more scenarios for people who own this expansion, because otherwise it is money well spent.

4Fun but flimsy
By A Customer
This is a fun walkman, especially for running. The strap is great. It's secure and good for keeping firmly in your hand while running. This is also good because the unit feels a bit light and flimsy and might not survive a fall. Otherwise it's a good walkman and Sony cut back on all of the gaudy yellow they have on most of their 'sports' electronics. They could include some more secure headphones, like the kind that wrap around the back of your ear. These are good but rattle around a bit which is a little distracting. Good walkman regardless.

3good enough for sports
By Kyle Jones
This is a good middle-of-the-road Walkman. The anti-jog feature makes this unit work well for listening while running. The buttons are in good positions for one-handed manipulation.

The sound you get is very good, but as with all portable cassette players you are at the mercy of tape alignment problems. Generally, the more expensive the player the more care is taken to keep the cassette and playback head in proper position. At $50, you can expect some problems in this area and you will find them in the WM-FS111. I've found that accidentally wiggling the PLAY button back and forth will increase and decrease the amount of treble in playback. The change is substantial, enough to make a brand new cassette sound awful. Clearly something is moving around inside the unit and it is most likely the playback head.

The standard mega-bass feature is nice when running outdoors, since bass is the first thing to go in that environment. The unit has a volume limiting feature that seems poorly considered. Basically with the limiter engaged, you have to crank the volume up to maximum to achieve a comfortable listening level. If you then turn off the sound limiting feature, the unit will assail your ears with a full volume roar of sound which may damage your hearing. You're better off being careful and conscious of volume levels yourself and not relying on this feature.

5The best ever!
By H. C. Johnson
I recently bought this cassette player and it is the best music player that i have ever bought in my whole life! It is well worth every cent. The music just flows so crisp, and clear it's like nothing you have ever heard! And it's so stylish, and the headphones are the best, the headphones fit to any sized head. This product is the best out there. Buy this product, you won't regret it!

5An Excellent Buy
By Ira Parker, Jr
When I first received the walkman, I thought it was a bit cheap looking for the price, but as I tested it out the different ways I'd possibly use it... I was amazed with the quality. The earphones have Excellent sound.. the stereo microphone is small and compact, but records well. The AM/FM Radio comes in clear and I was able to record several songs just fine. It fits just fine in my inner jacket pocket and in my waist pack. The external speakers are great asset to such a wonderful item, so now you don't have to share your earphones with others. Hope you like it is as much as I do.

I think you will never change your mind once you test it. Thank you SONY. You did it again.

5SONY!.......SO NICE!
By L. Shirley
I love my little Sony Walkman (WMSR1)tape player and recorder. It's compact in size, but big on sound. It has numerous useful functions and looks great in black and silver as well.

I use it all the time. You can play tapes, record on blank tapes, or listen to AM/FM radio. The quality of play of music and audio books is outstanding. Every note, every word, clear as a bell(and in stereo) through the adjustable headphones it comes with. It's useful for recording important meetings, reminders to yourself, or your favorite radio programs. You can listen to it on speaker instead of the headphones as well, but doesn't sound as great. I don't get as good reception on the FM as the AM, but moving it around helps somewhat.

Other features included are a detachable belt clip, the microphone and a little stand(which may also be attached to your collar or pocket),"Mega Bass" which may be turned on only with use of the headphones and an Automatic Volume Limiter System(to protect your ears).

It's a great price for all the functions it performs. It's a good thing to have in emergency situations(as we here in earthquake country know well)and runs on 2 AA batteries. There are also easy to follow instuctions if needed, where you will also find a 90 day limited warranty and Sony's on line address for any questions.

Lots of good things come in this small package...enjoy...Laurie
