4Garmin GPS12 versus etrex
By A Customer
I own both the Garmin GPS12 and the Garmin etrex. Why? Because I couldn't make up my mind. So I bought them both. After playing with both units I've decided to keep the GPS12 and sell the etrex for the following reasons. #1 The GPS12 has a stronger internal antenna that locks onto satellites much faster then the etrex and does not lose signal even under a heavy canopy of trees. #2 The buttons on the face of the GPS12 are larger and much easier to manipulate with one hand than the etrex. The etrex is designed to be used in your left hand and the buttons are vary small. The GPS12 can easily be used in either hand even with gloves on. #3 The map and compass pages provide more information without the need to constantly press buttons and switch pages. #4 The GPS12 map page lets you zoom in and out and scroll up and down, left and right. With the etrex you can only zoom out and lose detail to view a larger section of your trail. Yes the small size of the etrex is an advantage to backpackers such as myself, were every effort is made to minimize bulk and weight The GPS12 is about the size and weight of a typical cell phone. When I head into the forest to get away from it all. I rarely stay on crowded trails with all the other people getting away from it all. I take a topo a compass and now a GPS12 as a safety net because it will work even in the middle of a heavily wooded national forest.

4Garmin GPS 12
By Bruce Wilbur
I recently decided to purchase a GPS for our family camper. I purchased and returned 2 GPS units, the Rand Mcnally Palm V GPS and the Laptop GPS. The Palm V gps worked functionally, but would not turn off. It also was very sensitive to tree cover and positioning in the car. At times I could not get a fix. It would not work at all in the camper. Then I bought Laptop gps with the Streetfinder software. The positon and heading would drift all over the place, and the signal strength indicators would drift up and down no matter where the gps was placed. I have to say that the Street finder display was great on the laptop. My bet is that they do not have a good Quality assurance program due to the low pricing.

You are probably thinking -- What does this have to do with the Garmin GPS12? I did a lot of research, and came up with the GPS12 as the perfect solution. It powers up, and locks right on the satellites once it's set up in less than 45 seconds! It works anywhere in the car - on the dash , on the seat, on the center console, and in the back seat. It works anywhere in our camper. It will connect with a laptop for a great heads up display on the camper dash! The laptop provides better mapping capabilties than the more expensive GPS's due to the larger display. I have also connected it to my Palm V in both cases with Streetfinder software. Why connect to the palm? because it has plenty of memory for map storage, larger display then most GPS units, and you can mount the palm right on your dash for a good decent sized backlighted display. Marcosoft has a great palm navigation software package.

Best of all, I can take it all by it self fishing, biking or hiking. The Garmin GPS12 works great, and has a good solid feel. The case is quality made, with a nice quality keypad.

I marked it at less than a perfect 5 because I think they should include the data cable or at least the cigarette lighter adapter.

5Where power and price stalemate
By Kevin
I just bought the Garmin GPS 12 after doing loads of research, including reading the reviews posted here, and as I first time buyer I was uncertain, but I'm a believer now! I wondered what motivated people to sit down and write these reviews...it seemed sort of suspicious to me.

I fully understand now, and I hope to contribute as a way of saying thanks to the other reviewers.

This unit is outstanding, as the other reviews state, and I found it particularly wonderful when combined with some free software called GPSU or GPS utility. You can find it on the net (they are out of England). You can download/upload waypoints and make a map. Combination of these two are a must for the beginner to intermediate GPS user who camps, fishes, bikes, or visits places that they know they'll forget how to return to. Just click "GOTO" and then highlight your waypoint and you can leave your brain at home. I've also found that using 4 energizer "AA" batteries gives MUCH more than 24 hours of use; more like 32 hours. Very, very impressed with this device.

4Great for the price
By A Customer
First I wanted to say that the comment about it not having a tape counter, almost talked me out of buying this model. However it DOES have a counter, perhaps the reviewer was referring to the fact that it isn't displayed on the front panel, only on the TV.

My only disappointment with this unit is the remote. The lighted button idea sounded great, but all it does is light the big VCR-related buttons which are easy enough to distinquish by feel. I hoped it would light the small, clumped together, buttons.

Otherwise the picture quality is great, as is the sound, and I like some of the extras, such as; channel labeling, "remaining tape" display, labeled indexing, and the "skip one minute" button.

5EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS
By John S Bradburn
The picture quality is better than my JVC 4 head Hi Fi VCR.The stereo dbx sound is flawless. The remote works quicker than any Ihave ever used. It records stereo movies from Showtime and HBO to tapes that equal factory videos. Still pictures are completely noiseless, as in search and reveiw. The only complaint I have is that the so called lighted remote is not really lighted. I own eight VCR's and this is the least expensive one I have purchased. And yet it is just about the best.

5I love my panasonic vcr!
By Timothy Kong
I bought the model before: the PV-8450 two years ago after some research in consumer reports. The 8450 has super reliability (no problems) and picture and sound quality comparable to the top vcr brands (sony, mitsubitshi, and toshiba.) I also really like the fact that this vcr can record in LP mode. Tapes in LP mode hold 4 hours and play better in my panasonic than other vcrs. I was so impressed, i also went out and got the PV-945H. This one is just as good if not better and has some added custimize onscreen labels for programs. Super vcrs! The only problem is the odd shape of the remote.

5Panasonic. Just slightly ahead of their time...
By Stephan Banda
I've had this player for close to a year now, and it's an absolutly amazing piece of equipment. I'm very picky with things like this, and this was my third DVD player. I'd previously returned an RCA player, and a Hitachi player before settling on this one. No disapointment whatsoever. Great for those of us with a 6-ch input receiver, but no built in decoder in the amp. It gives you the ability to adjust almost every different aspect of the picture right on the player. You can adjust the volume and delay on every individual speaker, as well as tell it what size your speakers are. If you like lots of surround sound effect, just hook up some decent speakers, and tell the player to crank up the surround sound volume. Likewise for the subwoffer setting. The remote is GREAT and gives very easy to use features. While I'm completly satified with this player, here's my complaints with it...

1. it's only a 2x player, so when you fast forward in double speed, you can see every frame being played, but beyond that, it must skip frames to advance rapidly. Computer DVD-ROM's come at 12x already, so I think they could have made it faster. As it is, the player will advance anywhere from 2x to 100x in fast forward mode depending on your prefrence.

2. The dual layer DVD's give a VERY BRIEF pause while switching layers. Almost all players do this, but it'd be nice it the manufacturers would use a buffer to avoid the pause completely.

3. The "illuminated remote" is glow in the dark buttons that you can't see after the light's been off for more then 3 or 4 mintes. It'd have been nice if the remote was back-lit with an actual light inside.

4. The 1999 Hitachi and most 1998 Sony DVD players had dual laser pick-ups. The picture was read with one laser, and the audio with the other. This makes no noticable difference in the quality of viewing movies, but only players with the dual laser pickup will play CD-R discs like the ones you make in your computer's CD writer. Hitachi, since dropper the dual laser from it's player, and Sony now only has it on their top-of-the-line model.

5. If you stop the movie and do a picture or audio adjustment in the configuration menu, you have to manually re-find the spot you were at in the movie. If you just hit 'stop' and 'play' the player automatically goes back to where you were when you hit stop.

These are just small complaints, and for what it's worth, this is an awesome player.

5Ultimate DVD Player
By A Customer
This is an awesome DVD player, and I haven't even been able to use all the features. The remote is real easy to use, and the remote will also turn your television on/off and you can adjust the TV volume and channels. This player offers great picture and sound quality (I haven't used the DTS mode), and being able to choose which kind of television you have to improve the picture quality is a great feature. It also does a great job at playing scratched DVD's. This is an expensive DVD player, but it is worth every penny--especially if you really love DVD's!

5THIS IS FUN!
By Mike
A great DVD player with superb quality. There are no annoying lines traveling across you screen either. If you have and S-Video connection (with is on most newer TVs) I suggest you use that. However there are RCA jack connections. I lpve the sound too. If you have a good stereo on your TV or the external speakers it's like having the same experience of a LOEWS Cinema! Words do not express the greatness of it. Get it and see for yourself. Oh and it also plays CDs and maybe CD-R(I haven't tried CD-Rs on it yet).

4A bit too heavy...
By packrat0x
The product is high-end, consumer class, non-isolating UPS. The old models (like this one) accept any size 12 Volt battery - such as a deep cycle marine battery. Most customers may want the included battery, however, the battery doubles the shipping weight (and shipping price).

5Good protection
By Aieomee Blue
This is one of two APC UPS units that I own. I also own the more modern and lighter APC CS 350.The APC 650 is a slightly older UPS unit. Non the less just as reliable as the modern units in the CS series. Six 120V AC outlets, and phone line provide total industrial strength surge protection. As an older UPS this unit seems to regulate backup power better during a power outage. The backup power can last up to one hour with a properly maintained battery. PS/2 9 pin computer port allows connection to a desktop PC.A word of caution. This is one of the heavier UPS units. So you'll want to find a permanent location to install for this unit.If lighter weight is what your after, some of APC's more modern units might be for you. Otherwise, other than the weight, this unit provides unsurpassed performance and value. The best surge protection money can buy.

4Very nice, but missing a couple of key features
By A Customer
A very nice piece of telephone gear, integrating the phone, answering machine, and caller ID functions. I only have two complaints: 1. For some reason, there is no MUTE button! A mute button is the greatest, particularly for tele-conference calls. 2. There are no one-button speed-dial buttons. It can remember 100 names and numbers, which is great, but to access the list you must: a. turn the jog dial, b. press a letter key, perhaps a couple of times, to get to the desired first letter, c. turn the jog dial some more to get to your desired entry. That's a lot of activity to call someone you call all the time!

4Still looking for something less complicated!
By lisamcmil
Overall, a good machine; speakerphone and caller ID memory are wonderful. But lots of steps to follow to access basic functions, even remotely. A couple of times, I know for certain that this machine has failed to record messages from callers...NOT good! Also, the recording quality leaves a bit to be desired, too; this is particularly true of the outgoing message quality; for some reason the callers' messages come through more clearly. (Hint: record your outgoing message remotely, from a quiet location--seriously!)

3Still looking for a decent 2 line phone & answerer!
By tideguy
I bought this a year ago to replace an almost-new AT&T model when I discovered that the AT&T model had a nasty habit of hanging up on people in mid-message, or sometimes failing to answer at all. In other words, the AT&T machine was garbage. This Panasonic is sooooo much nicer! And for several months, it performed perfectly. But lately, it's developed some problems: - even though I recorded my outgoing messages clearly and they sound fine when I review them, callers complain that they can barely hear them. - if someone calls and doesn't speak sufficiently loudly when they leave their message, this machine will hang up on them in mid-message.I dunno.. it's such a nice phone, with great buttons & all the features, but I'm back to square one. Somebody please tell me: WHO MAKES AN ANSWERING MACHINE THAT ACTUALLY TAKES MESSAGES, the WHOLE message, EVERY TIME? Certainly not AT&T. And I guess not Panasonic. I'm running out of models to try.

4Almost the best notbook bag ever
By Scott A. Pederson
I've had this bag for over a year, and it has held up tremedously - with one exception. The clasps on the shoulder strap bent open, but was able to bend them back using a pliers. The bag is a bit heavy due to the leather, but it looks so much better than any nylon one.

4Great notebook case
By S. L. Imm
This case is great for value and for space..for the most part. It's actually really hard to find a good value leather case for a 15.4 notebook, but this was it. Unfortunately though not much room for any other types of peripheral, ie notebook mouse, once my adaptor and power cord went in, as nothing else but my notebook fits in that compartment so they had to go in another, but all in all, really nice case, and not too heavy being leather either. Another good point ladies is that its looks are relatively unisex, not too masculine but not too feminine either. Highly recommended.

5Protection and Convenience!
By neurotome
I'm a doctor who spends a lot of time wearing scrubs in a hospital. I'd been trying to use my Palm III in the hospital for a year with only minimal success. It was too heavy, kept falling out of my whitecoat pocket (often breaking the glass) and couldn't be left alone for fear of theft.

This case, with my new Palm Vx, solved my problem and turned me into a 24/7 Palm user. I keep my Palm in this case during the most grueling 48-hour calls. The clip is spring-loaded and the spring is heavy enough that it simply can't come off, even when you're running to cardiac arrests. So no more broken screens! Also, it's light enough that you immediately forget about it until you need it. I haven't found accidental activation of the Palm to be a problem, and the leather doesn't look like it'll wear through any time soon.

There is also a slot through which you might thread your belt, but when I'm dressed up I prefer to keep my Palm in the separate folding leather pocket case in my coat pocket. I think that looks a bit more professional. For practicality and safety, however, this case can't be beat. It smells good too, and the little Palm logo embossed into the leather is cute and stylish! I recommend this case 100%

5Junkie
By A Customer
This is the carrying case you need. If you are like me you bought the Palm to store information in a small compact device. In my opinion the other bulky, address book like carrying cases defeat the purpose. It attatches discreetly to your belt, is covered up by a suit jacket, doesn't interfere with sitting, is easily accessed, and the case does offter a good degree of protection. But take my advice buy it from amazon. I made the mistake of getting it at a media type store and paid fifteen more dollars for it.

1Watch the Velcro
By Elliott W. Meyers
I am disappointment in the design of the case by 3com. The opening flap of the case opens from the inside, (side closes to your body) out with the male part of the Velcro on the flap. This causes my sweaters and shirts to snag and tear very time I open the case. Since case is not firm, when you sit or move in certain positions it activates the instant on selector buttons on the Palm V, draining the battery.
