Freud LU84R014

I've used Freud products (blades and shaper cutters), for years and have always been impressed with their quality. Fine Woodworking magazine rated the 10" version of this blade just below that of the 10" Forrest WW blade in their recent (3/2002) tests, but I've found the Freud cuts to be smooth and swirl-free in both cross cutting and ripping, and this blade was cheaper than the Forrest!!Any blade this size will make a little noise, and the LU84R014 is no exception. However, I do feel that blade noise helps you keep a healthy respect for a tablesaw. I use this blade on the venerable Delta Rockwell 12"-14" tablesaw....(which is a 5 star unit available for bargain prices on the web, BTW)In all, an excellent all-round combination blade at a reasonable price for 70 teeth. It will only be after extended use that I'll see if the Teflon coating has helped prevent resin buildup, and lets the blade run cooler.

Best computer bag ever

I have been searching for a large, quality bag for months, ever since my old Brenthaven started giving out. A key requirement for me was having a non-black lining, which is what almost all bags have, except Briggs-Riley, which has an orange lining. But the Briggs-Riley bags have few interior pockets. Black lining makes it impossible to find small things in a bag. Then I found the Firewall eTech 2.0, which is completely lined in orange material! It also has several exterior easy-access pockets to accommodate a magazine one may be reading at the boarding gate, as well as pocket-stuff that has to be removed to go through airport security. The two small zip pockets on the side are nice. The one for a water bottle I use for a small umbrella. The other is a good place for medications one might need on a flight. And all of this four less than one-third the price of Briggs-Riley. It is apparent that the eBags designers actually use luggage and know what works and does not.The interior computer sleeve is brilliant! I carry my 15" laptop in a neoprene zip bag, so I just removed the two foam spacers and my computer fits perfectly. On top of that, the extra little pouch for a tablet is wonderful... all of the computer stuff organized and protected in one place. Nobody else has those features. The expansion zipper is also nice as it makes the file folder compartment larger if one needs it on the way home when conference material has accumulated. The stand-up handles are extremely well padded and make carrying the bag a pleasure.Complaints? I would like to see more and larger mesh pockets in the organizer, and have some pockets in the file folder section. Maybe the next version will have those.

Accurate and true

The 99-270 bit set I purchased took a little getting used to. When I first opened the package and studied the profiles, there was no way these bits would match. Or so I thought. After some practice cuts and a little trial and error I was on my way. The bits are of course Freud quality all the way. Mine unfortunately were assembled incorrectly from the factory. (4 Stars) One of the cutting heads on one of the bits was installed up side down. This made for an interesting first cut. After correcting the assembly error, I had no problem making all the parts for a divided light window. You will however, have to use mortises to assemble your project. Overall these are a great addition to my Freud collection. Solid as expected!

fill in the blanks

This set does not come with instructions so I had to research and also some trial and error. there are extra shim washers on each bit so I was able to adjust the tenon thickness to 5/16". The rub bearings are too wide for 1/4" tenons. Add 3/4" to length for rails, muntins, and mullions. There are several mortises per door so a hollow chisel mortiser is good. These bits make glass cabinet doors as easy as possible. Easier than the 3 piece sets that are available.

I purchased this bit set to do some true divided light cabinet doors. The quality was fine and it did the job. I purchased this set as opposed to another because I had an article from one of the wood working magazines showing how they worked and how to cut the wood lengths so the results would be perfect. Without this article I'm not sure I would have been able to figure out exactly how to use these. No instructional help comes with the bit set. This bit set does not cut the mortise required for every connection between rail/stile/munton(sp) is made. So you will need to make each by hand or with a mortising tool of some kind. Since each of my doors has 20 mortise and tenon connections, I purchased the Dewalt dedicated mortiser.

Perfect for the large laptops but needs adjustments for smaller ones.

I am a big fan of the eBags brand and own several items already including a Downloader laptop knapsack from 2005. That bag is still going strong but unfortunately I now need a bigger bag to accommodate my many larger and heavier school books. The Macroloader is a wonderful bag and will not disappoint.The e-reader pocket is a great feature. It lies in the main compartment adjacent to the anterior wall of the laptop compartment so it's protected on that side. The main compartment is huge and can accommodate all of the books I need for class and then some. The front storage area is chock full of pockets both with and without light padding. The padded ones are great for your smartphone, voice recorder, camera or MP3 player. There are mesh pockets which are great because you can see exactly what's in there - a good place for headphones, USB cables and small miscellaneous wires. The side pockets are a bigger than my Downloader knapsack. The mesh side pocket is great for a water bottle and since it's now bigger the water bottle seems fit much better. The other side pocket has a leash for your keys so you always know where they are in addition to loops for pens, pencils and lip balm. Last but not least, there is a front zip pocket for things you need to get to immediately.A few changes I would like to suggest to the ebags design team is to include a 3-sided foam insert inside the laptop compartment. It would be a big help for folks like me who do not have a large laptop. I only have an 11.6" computer and it shifts around so much in the laptop compartment. In order to solve the problem, I insert the computer horizontally so it fits snugly without too much movement. I took the foam insert from my old Downloader and place it on top of the laptop. There is still plenty of space on top of that where I put my power adapter brick and emergency umbrella. For all of you out there with larger laptops, this bag will be perfect.

Nice adjustable set. I had each bit set up in a router and made made a quick jig with a fence that I could clamp to the work piece. Nice looking joints on my ceilings and walls, and almost zero waste!

It works, but takes some trial and error

Like other Freud bits, these are well made and cut great. The only problem I have with them, is there isn't a guide or any instructions on how many spacers to use when you adjust the bits for different size wood. I've been doing woodworking for years, so you would think it would be straightforward, but it isn't. The spacers are not the same on both bits, so it's not like you can simply add the same number of spacers to both bits, to get a proper fit. What you have to do, is use several test pieces until you get the desired fit. It's a pain, but it works. If there was a guide that helped or some instructions, I would have rated this 5 stars.

good joints once you firgure out how to use it.

My only complaint (after practicing with the finger joint bit all afternoon) is the limited instructions that come with it. Safety advice only. You have to figure out yourself how to use this properly, but once done it makes tight joints.First thing to know is that all cutter heads need to remain on spindle to have to nut engage the threads, cutters you don't need are placed above the wide top cutter and just "cut the air" above your workpiece.I used it on a shaper with a mitre gauge. Was impossible to hold the workpiece tightly against gauge so I built a sacrificial fence (this also reduced chipping as the cutter exits the back side). First attempt was too deep a cut and bit pulled work free from my clamp AND knocked my mitre gauge off 90 degrees. This made next hour's worth of practice confusing as the cut was deeper on entering the wood than on exited. Getting the mitre gauge back to 90 degrees mitre solved this.Cutter does indeed cut 5/16" deep as they say, so I started marking a 5/16" guideline on my workpiece and aligning this to the end of my fence; this allowed me to touch the collar bearing but also to clamp the workpiece to my fence. Pull the workpiece slowly thru as a lot of wood is being chopped if all or most of the cutter heads are used.I had to adjust height of bit for mating halves. I measured from the side of the workpiece cut by the wide top cutter to where the last narrow cutter (one above collar bearing) ended. This distance became the height of the bottom cutting edge on the wide top cutter and it fits beautifully.All in all a great product.

Practice first

What a neat router bit! It's long enough that you can join something thicker than a 2x4. I joined some 2x6 planks for practice, and I didn't need all the cutting blades. I used this with a 2 HP handheld router, and I used 5 of the 6 blades for cutting (the last was beyond the bottom of the wood, cutting air. It worked well. It takes some practice with this bit to get it right. I definitely recommend 2 passes: 1 deep cut, and 1 cleanup pass. The reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because it comes with no instructions at all. If you have never seen how to use this for thinner pieces of wood, you might be puzzled. The trick is to move the thick cutter up the shank, putting the remaining cutters on the end.

Excellent finger joint bit

I got the Freud 90-039 finger joint bit because it was the only bit I could find that would handle wood more than 1.5" thick. I used the bit to join a beefy desktop made of 8-quarter (1.58" thick) white oak. It made a very precise joint in 1 pass on the router table (some posts I've read said to use multiple passes and I'd agree, but getting the 60" long boards through in one pass made things much faster and easier... I just took it nice and slow). The trick with this bit is set-up. You'll need a dead-flat router table surface and some careful tests. I used some scrap of the same thickness as my workpiece to set up the initial height and then got the second setting through trial and error. I used these scrap pieces as templates for additional set-ups. Granted, you'll need to make additional tests for each wood thickness you finger join. I very much agree with other reviewers that instructions would be pretty helpful - the bit comes with none and it's not completely intuitive to the first time user. One other important note: Setting your fence so that it is exactly in-line to the bit's bearing is crucial to tight-fitting joints (this is what sets the depth of the joint and getting the ends of the joints to meet perfectly is what makes for a seamless finger joint). I had to give it a few tries on my homemade router table. Another tip I learned only after watching some videos of finger bit set-up is to stagger the blades, thus reducing the load on the bit by having only a few of the teeth contacting the wood at a time. I'd recommend this bit if you need a tight-fitting finger joint and plan to join thick boards.

Slots have never been easier

Cutting tounge and groove when replacing floor boards in my 100 year old house, has never been easier since I bought this bit. I set it up on my router table, and go. I cut the boards for my entire upstairs hallway in about 30 minutes, including set up time. Its easy to use and adjust, and comes sharp and ready to use. I bought this bit because of the Freud name, and I'm happy I've stuck with them...

Poor packaging on Freuds part

As a bit set, its a wonderful tool. Freud really missed on engineering the packaging. So badly that I had to have Amazon replace the bit set as some of the cutters came lose from the spindle they were placed on and chipped one of the cutters. Also, Freud did not and does not have any "real instructions" for the sets use. I even called Freud and was told that the one practically useless sheet was all they have decided to give out.For the price, there should have been more attention paid to the package and the instructions. I was able to figure it out, but for a product of this type, I shouldn't have had to.

Be respectful of this bit

The bit arrives sharp and well balanced. Always use at a very low speed like a 2 on a scale of 5.Only in a router table and only when the router and table are securely matched. This puts out a lot and I mean a lot of vibration. If you don't have a better than average table and support system there may be trouble like: The router lock will vibrate loose and the router will slip down into the table so as to put the bearing off your pattern = gouges and flying wood. Then there is the possibility of the vibration loosening the screws that hold your router to the plate in the table. The router will fall into the table and while running tear anything it touches into pieces while you are protecting your eyes and groping for the power switch. Yes! it happened to me and the bit was ruined. I got another one because no one else makes such a heavy duty bit for a router. No problems now that I know how to use thread loc.

BIG ROUTER BIT

This is one big block of steel. The picture shown is of a much smaller bit. The 50-138 is 2"x2" and is a handful. The carbide is fine grain and razor sharp. It runs true with no vibration. I used it hand held to trim some doors in my home. It cut through them like a knife through butter. The directions recommend router table use only, but with a variable speed Bosch router I had no problems. It does take a few extra seconds to spend down due to centrifugal force.

Fast and Massive storage

Bought this 64gb micro sd card for my Samsung Galaxy phone. Loaded my entire Bruce Springsteen 20 CD collections in there in like 15 minutes with the sd reader that came with it. Very fast transfer speed. Now I have my personal Springsteen jukebox to-go. Taking tons of pictures (and videos) from my Coachella concert too. Still have 15gb left. Can't complain.
