* SainSmart UNO R3 now uses an ATMega16U2
instead of the ATMega8U2 chip. This allows for faster transfer rates and more

It seems that the UNO that i got sent has a bad pin. either I blew it running an LED off of it or it was bad comming from the manufacturer.Also I hope you are good at reading engrish because the documentation (from their site) is terrible... I've seen better documentation on a $2 toy RC car.

Good Kit for getting started with Arduino

This kit comes with all the components you need to start learning Arduino and open source hardware development. The problem I had with this kit is that it came with no instructions. I ended up having to do some searches to find the documentation and 16 example projects. Eventually I found them at the Sain Smart website, available on this page: [...]After getting the instructions, programming was a breeze and everything worked as described. There are a couple of things that I would do to this kit to give it a 5 star rating:1) The wire assortment doesn't contain very many long wires so its hard to use the entire space of the breadboard.2) The LCD does not come with header pins. You will have to solder your own pins.3) Some of the examples/tutorials use parts that are not included with this kit.Other than those things, I think this is a good kit for a beginner.

A great starter set

This is my first experience with OpenSource hardware. I must say this kit, is pretty cool. It has everything to get you started and is easy to learn. Even my 5 year old was interested in learning about the Arduino. The SainSmart kit is a good value for any beginner.
