Pleasant Suprises

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2H3QA9KFA8TP2 I was pleasantly surprised by the Philips Hue Personal Wireless light kit as it provides a versatile lighting environment which works perfectly for my study area in the house.Attached is a video which demonstrates the lighting effects from the pre-programmed lighting modes from the App. The App is free and downloadable from both the Apple Store and Android Play Store.Here is a summary of what I like about this product :- very easy to install and set up. All we needed is to screw the bulbs in the lamp socket, plug in the hue switch, connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet router, and install the App. The App automatically searches for the lamps and it does not require any other settings nor registrations- the bulbs are energy efficient with an 8.5 W 600 Lumens rating- the App allows customization and creation of your own settings on color and intensityThe only drawback I could think of is that the Apps is not entirely user-friendly and the lack of instructions. But the hardware works like a charm so far.I would highly recommended this product to those who want versatile lighting and controlling through your Apple or Android devices.

I have 14 of these bulbs now. Every light in one room is using them. Having a fully open API makes these the greatest light on the market. Ignore the cost, because they're totally worth it. I've written a couple libraries to automate presets. Like for example, my server runs a script that sets the lamps to a "Wake Up" preset shortly before my alarm goes off, and it will also turn a few lights on shortly before I usually get home.I can't say enough good things about these bulbs. My only complaint is the app is annoying at times, and the "scheduled" presets have a limit of 100 items. So for example if you're fading in/out a preset over X minutes. That uses X presets for each direction you're fading. Sometimes the bridge's scheduler gets clogged and the App doesn't realize it. I hope Philips will make the app a little smarter going forward, but that's such a SMALL complaint.

Gadget Junkies Rejoice!

This is a must have for any gadget junkies like myself. Hue worked perfectly right out of the box. I had it up & running in 5 minutes without any detail instructions. Just screw in the bulbs, plug the bridge to power & your router. Download the app & follow the connection instructions which is simply pushing a button on the bridge and you are in business.I love the ability to create the ambiance. I have all three bulbs into one fixture. This is great since each bulb can be customized for a scene. As far as the complaints about the brightness. I do not share those. Maybe because I have all three in the same fixture, but found it extremely bright using Energize or Reading themes.I have my hue working with my iPhone,iPad mini, & iPad 3. It is important you first create an account on meethue dot com. Once you have an account, login on your devices so that it shares all your scenes and alarms.Okay, the app. It's not great nor intuitive and lacks basic controls one would have expected. For example, no simple on or off & dimming using the basic lighting. You must choose a scene. But the killer is lack of setting up weekly timers. Yes, you can program a scene to come on and off but only for that day. You can NOT create a weekly schedules as you can with bulky plugin lamp timers.But there is hope since this is open source & developers will soon be selling their own apps. Once that happens, this will be PERFECT.
