5This is a super tool!
By Bob Bee
If you want power, you can't do any better than this. This has a variable speed dial and is literally twice as powerful as a Milwaukee magnum hole shooter. I got one of these used at a pawn shop and I really like it.

5an absolute beast
By Matthew Dyer
You have to hold it in your hands to truly get a sense of this size and power of this drill. It weighs about 14 pounds. It feels like a solid chunk of metal.Everything works as it should. As another reviewer noted, it is quite difficult to see the numbers on the variable speed dial. At the same time, you really don't need to see them. Rolling the dial with your thumb up or down changes speeds just fine. The Jacobs keyed chuck is very strong and tightens down like a vise. Bear in mind that you're not going to be whipping bits in and out of this thing, so the extra 10 seconds it takes to tighten down the chuck with the key is really no big deal. The twistlock cord is a very nice feature, as is the soft start. This is a beautiful, very well made tool that is ready for serious work.Keep in mind also that you have to, have to brace this thing when using big bits. I'm a pretty strong fellow but this drill will spin like a top if the bit catches. When it does, it's very easy to hurt your arm or shoulder.I've used a Milwaukee 0302 for some work, and it's quite strong, but nowhere in the league of this drill.I bought this drill partly to stir up driveway sealer. I called Milwaukee customer service and asked if the 0302 or 0234 would be up to the task. No way, the fellow said, only the 1663 or similar units have the gears and low speed to do the job. From Amazon I purchased Ace Heavy Duty Paint Mixer (25080) mixer attachments and they look great. They're quite heavy and seem to be of good quality steel, and they're deep enough to do a 5 gallon bucket. Keep in mind that regular old paint mixing attachments are often not strong enough to mix settled driveway sealer. Spend a bit more to get the heavy duty stuff that really works. The last time I mixed up the sealer I didn't use a drill, just a wood rod, and I was quite disappointed with the results. Even the gel, no mix stuff really does need to be mixed with a tool to truly blend it for a good application. You do not get a case with the drill, and for a $260 drill I think that's wrong. I know Milwaukee is trying to hold costs down, but a $260 drill should come with a $6 plastic case. My other quibble is that the drill came with a chip out of the body. It's a minor thing, and due, I think, to substandard Amazon packaging. And one final thing: it's made in China. Nothing against the Chinese, but I was hoping at $260 it would be made here in the USA.I also plan on using this to drill holes for tree aeration. If you're interested in such things, I warn you that the augers for sale on Amazon are mostly not up to the task unless you have very loose, loamy soil. If you're dealing with heavy clay soil, the aluminum augers on Amazon will spin inside the chuck and will make a mess of things. I found some great equipment at gardenauger dot com that, while quite expensive, is high quality steel and very up to the task.Buy this beast. You'll love it and in 40 years you'll give it to your son, provided he doesn't swipe it from you before then!

5Excellent Tool
By 3589
I used the tool to bore a one and three quarter inch hole into 4x4 inch post to a depth of 24 inches. The low speed and good torque of this drill worked very well for this task. This drill has a wheel that allows you to set the RPM of the drill so that it runs at the same speed each time you pull the trigger. The drill drove the tool smoothly and easily into the post. Having the extended grips on top and bottom of the drill make it easy to hold while drilling.
