OK, but just OK

In my ongoing quest to find the perfect external keyboard for the iPad, I took the iHome IDM5B for a test drive. Ultimately I decided not to buy this product. Why? Sixty seconds after an easy start up, my finger dragged across the keyboard and knocked off the bluetooth connection. My bad. I tried several times to reconnect it with no success. So I powered down the keyboard, turned it back on and again tried to re-establish the bluetooth connection. Still no luck. I powered off BOTH devices, powered them back on and still was unable to get the keyboard to recognize my iPad (and I was trying really hard). I grant it could have been user error, but it also may be a bug that causes the product to seize up after it's been disconnected. But the clincher was that the only thing that keeps the iPad physically connected to the keyboard is gravity. There is nothing on the keyboard that holds the iPad in place, no slot, no border, no tongue-in-grove molding. The iPad just leans against the keyboard cover and balances there, waiting to be knocked off where it will fall to the table or onto the floor. That is what ultimately made me take a pass on this keyboard.

Just what I needed.

I picked up one of these from a local retail store but was please to find it here for a cheaper price - I'm considering returning the one that I got to save some money and get it here, but in any case, I am very satisfied with this product. As an iPad user that does a lot of fictional writing, having a real physical keyboard is a very nice change from the on screen touch keyboard that I seem to struggle so badly with. Unlike the other user that review this item at the time of this writing, I haven't had any connectivity issues like they were - though it will disconnect when I remove my iPad and maybe leave the room with it, but that's to be expected I would say. My favorite bit about this unit is the speakers, being able to stream internet radio through the nice pair of drivers that this device has while I write is huge for me, and something I never really thought about when I bought it. Short story is that I would recommend this to anyone that does even a small amount of writing on their iPad.

This keyboard is not wireless, if you unplug it you turn it off. Other then that the keyboard is very nice and sturdy
