Great Towels, NO SMELL

I read many of the reviews that mentioned the smell before I purchased these towels. It sounds like the other buyers didn't properly wash the towels the first time. I didn't know there was a proper way to wash towels until a few years ago when I complained to a manufacturer that their towels wern't very absorbent. They explained that the first time (and it has to be done the first time or you ruin the towels) you have to wash the towels using about 2 cups of white vinegar to remove the coating that is applied at the factory. This coating prevents insect and other damage during shipping and storage. If you don't do this and run the towels through the dryer the coating won't come off.I purchased two sets of these towels and immediately washed them using the above method. Because they were so absorbent I used about 1/2 gallon of white vinegar poured directly in to the tub on my front loader. I then ran them a second time using Tide to get the vinegar smell out. They don't smell and they are the most absorbent towels I have ever purchased. I am about to buy two more sets for our guest bath.I didn't rate them with 5 stars becasue they could be softer. My brother (who has a lot more money than I have) purchased towels from Frontgate. They are just as thick and absorbent, but much softer (also much more expensive).

The quality of these towels is exceptional. They are very thick, soft and absorbent. My only problem with them is the size of the bath towels, which are oversized. I normally love oversized towels, but these towels are so nice in quality that a normal size would be sufficient.

These are nice quality towels that a very similar to what I have experienced at numerous fine hotels I have stayed at.I do not like the plastic bar code tag that is attached on the items though - it is a little difficult to cut off close to edge without damaging the product. Take you time when removing them.As far as the smell others have mentioned - Yes it is present. What other reviewers may not be aware of is that this is a chemical that is added to prevent insect damage to the towels while they are in storage/transit. Who wants to buy towels that are carrying insect larvae, or any type of moth that eats Keratin. They may smell when received but it is something that can be washed off quite easily. I would rather deal with the smell than introduce cloth eating insects into my home.These are not "pre-washed" so expect a little lint the first two to three wash/dry cycles.You are paying a reasonable price for a quality Towel Set; but without the fancy packaging, pre-washing or high price.Additional color options would be "icing on the cake".Wash them delicately and dry them with low heat and they will not shrink or ravel.Wash them with a minimal amount of detergent to prevent soap buildup, since this makes the fabric rough.They should last quite a long time.
