Fabulous. Expensive, but very worthwhile as a heavy-duty...

Fabulous. Expensive, but very worthwhile as a heavy-duty multi-function machine. Weighs a ton and takes up lots of desk space, but reliably spits out large quantities of faxes, printouts, and copies. I had a couple of cheaper ink-jet fax machines, and they would choke all the time on large documents. This one has yet to have a problem, with months of heavy use. Scanner and scanner software works well and is easy to use, even for the non-technical.

My R80 sat in my office for more than 10 years doing its job. Its job was to print every time I asked it to do so. After 8 years its carriage belt shredded, but a replacement was obtained and more importantly the information I needed to perform the repair was available. But after several more years of use it seemed to be time to retire this workhorse. Its replacement, an HP Officejet Pro 8500A, which came loaded with all kinds of nifty modern features, was never as capable of performing the basics of reliably feeding paper and printing on demand, and now after only 2 years it is gone.So I am back on Amazon looking for a printer. I see that HP has dropped from being the top rated printer brand to a distant 3rd or 4th. And all the current HP printers seem to have the same reliability issues which killed the 8500A. As can be inferred from my purchase of the R80, I am willing to pay more for the kind of quality, reliability, and durability that provides years of hassle-free performance. But I will not be shopping the HP brand today.
