4Measure your doorways!
By T. McGoughy
I bought this rollator from another site for about the same price but shipping was free. I am dealing with a broken foot and really needed a better way to get around than crutches. Crutches, while useful for getting around, are very limiting. You can't carry anything without risking tipping over, you can't bend over, you can't sit to give your one good leg a break. I hated them. This rollator has been a lifesaver. The wheels are large, sturdy, and they move freely. I love having the basket because I can actually transport things from room to room. I no longer have to wait for someone else to do certain things for me. I can do most things myself. The rollator is well-built and my very handy husband put it together in about 20 minutes. You can slow down by pulling up on the handles slightly and you can "brake" by pushing the handles all the way down. This only locks the back wheels though. The front wheels still move. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do and serves it purpose well. That being said, I have a few issues with it. Hence, the 4 stars instead of 5 stars.1. The front wheels rotate but the back wheels don't. This seems to be standard on most rollators and I'm sure there's a good reason for it BUT, it is very annoying when you can't back up just a few inches/feet because the wheels are going in opposite directions. I have to navigate around an island in my kitchen and there are times when just a few inches of movement is all I need to get to something. I have so many red streaks on my cabinets from the front wheels banging against my lower cabinets while I try to get to where I need to go around the island. I have a side-by-side refrigerator and I can get to the freezer just fine since it opens away from me. Getting to the fridge takes some maneuvering since it opens toward me and the seat back and front wheels stick out to the point where I have to back away from the fridge quite a bit to get the door fully open. Backing up is not easy so I have started doing a full circle so I end up standing in front of the freezer door so I can open the fridge door without impediment. Don't get me started on the maneuvering I have to do to unload the dishwasher.2. The wheels and the handles stick out on the sides of this rollator to the point where I can't use it to get into certain rooms in my house...including my walk-in closet! This means I either have to hop around in the closet or have my crutches nearby. I can barely get it into my master bathroom and the paint on the door frame has taken a beating from me forcing it through. I didn't think of it but I probably should have measured my doors before ordering this. It's about 2 feet wide at the widest point and my bathroom door jamb is slightly more than 23".3. The seat is a little small. The box says that it holds up to 250 lbs but I can't imagine someone weighing that much sitting in it comfortably. It's fine for me because I am not a big person but the small seat could be a problem for a larger person.4. The basket is handy but could be more secure. It's supposed to be removeable but it literally rests on the steel bar in the front and there are two hooks that rest on the front bar under the seat. I have had the basket fall out more than once because it becomes loose while I'm moving.5. You've got to be careful leaning forward with your knee on the seat. To accommodate the folding feature, the seat is only secured to the top on the front bar. So, if you lift up the seat from the back, it comes right up and rests against the seat back for easy folding. There are times when I am kneeling on it to put dishes in the top cabinet or reach something from the top shelf in the pantry and the seat just tips forward. You can really tip over in this thing if you're not careful and there's nothing in front of you to catch your fall.
