4Great tool for the right situation
By A Customer
No one likes nails scattered around their house, but this happens during the course of a building project. As a contractor I found the 30" rolling magnetic sweeper a great tool to have on remodel jobs, new construction, and even small shop projects. The magnet height is easy to adjust, and clean up is a snap. I did have trouble using the tool over rough terrain. If the wheels fell into low areas or the magnet made contact with a hill, some nails would fall off. Conversely, if the wheels went over high ground or the magnet was centered on a valley, it wouldn't pick up the nails. Also after pulling up on the red handle to clean the magnet, make sure to push it back down so it sits square again, otherwise you will not have the full strength of the magnet working for you. Other than that it really worked great! I am very pleased with my purchase.

5Get this one
By Oldtechnohobbiest
Well, the roofers are gone...the nails in the yard remain. (I could have sworn they advertized tarping the entire yard and using a magnetic sweeper just to be sure).Whether they did or didn't advertize, whether or not they actually did 'anything'...the nails remain.I borrowed a five inch magnetic from a neighbor. It has a screw run through it with and weed eater string tighted to it. I drug it through the yard. Just a quick check--know what I mean--in an area five inches wide and thirty feet long it picked up around thirty nails......and the nails remain. For the first time in my life I actually have a little extra money, plus I have Amazon.com. I clicked on magnets, that led me to magnetic sweepers and finally to this one.So, during the five days it took for this product to reach me, I used that five inch magnetic (it's very powerful) and drug it over each section of the yard four or five time. I have an empty (12oz) pipe tobacco can...I filled it completely. There must be at least five hundred nails in that can! Finally the yard sweeper shows up. First thing I noticed it was heavy gauge metal. That's a plus. Then I spotted the unattached handle (they didn't even tape that thing down so it wouldn't move around in the package. I found out why--it was stuck to the magnetic bottom of the unit...it actually took a little bit of horsepower to pull them apart! (That's good). That afternoon I took it for spin. lowering the handle as I pulled it across the yard(they say push it, but not me, I pull it) the leading edge of the box drags itself across the yard. That's what I want. You see, if you drag the box with the magnet across the nail--by the time the nail reaches the over side of the box it has become a magnet to. The nails' magnetic field grabs hold of the boxs' magnetic field--grabbing the nail and holding it a magnitude or better. (That's another way of saying you'll get more nails picked up).I took 'baby' steps--I went slow. I managed to pick up another one hundred nails--you can actually hear them hit the metal and stick to it. That ended that days work because I've got the flu or a cold or something. Back inside I went, back on the internet, click on magnets again and spotted Amazons' 250pound lift magnet for seventeen dollars plus. I ordered five of them. The magnetic yard sweeper was strong enough but would not follow the contours of the yard--it has many highs and lows. Attaching these five magnets and letting them 'drag' along behind the sweeper should end that problem; they will follow the contours of the yard. That's where I'm at this moment--I just placed the order for the magnets and await their arrive. Tomorrow, if pretty weather--and I feel better, I'll drag this unit through the yard again. I'll update then.

5Worth Having...
By C. Murphy
I bought this for work after seeing our roofing contractor with one collecting all of the scattered nails that had fallen from the roof. Whether I'm denailing used 2X4's to reuse them, or cutting up metal leaving metal scraps scattered around in the grass or in a driveway {as long as it's not aluminum or stainless steel), I can methodically roll this magnetic sweeper around covering a large area in a short period of time collecting every piece of metal on the ground. Easily adjusted higher for grass or lower for pavement and concrete. Extremely convenient and beats the hell out of searching for and picking up every piece of metal hard to find in the grass or driveway. Helps a lot on gravel as well. Definitely worth having as a contractor. Perhaps something smaller but similar would be helpful at home if needed.
