Heroic Ruler of Future Eternia!

When King He-Man was first revealed, I'll admit I was on the fence about him. Admittedly, the figure looked pretty darn cool, but the beard and such took some getting used to (it reminded me a bit too much of Thor), however, now that I've had this figure in hand for quite some time before writing this review, I must admit it's grown on me. First of all, an older, wiser He-Man as a King complete with beard and crown caught me as a bit of a surprise (after all, in all his incarnations, one thing He-Man has never had is a beard) and seems like a totally different character at first. Surely, this stern-looking, scarred monarch couldn't possibly be jolly Prince Adam, but it is. The headsculpt of this figure is pretty amazing. With the crown, longer hair, beard and considerable scar (presumably earned in the final battle with Skeletor, although that remains to be seen), King He-Man looks as battle worn and grim as any barbarian king of old. His gold, grey, red and blue armor really pops and is perfectly accented with his blue fur-collared cape. As for accessories, King He-Man comes with a Royal Staff of Eternos, similar to the ones that came with King Randor and Queen Marlena, however the cross atop King He-Man's staff is more like the iron cross theme of his classic armor. Additionally, King He-Man comes with a more kingly version of the 2002 electronic Power Sword, presumably because his son He-Ro is using the real Power Sword to kick evil's butt across Eternia as the current (future) He-Man. In support of this, the figure features the new He-Ro Son of He-Man faction sticker; which I'm sure we'll see again in the near future. King He-Man was also the incentive figure for 2013 subscriptions, meaning he was never offered to the general public and as such non-subscribers who want him could end up paying a tidy sum for him (a hundred dollars seems to be the current average rate). Also, King He-Man came with the Club Eternia exclusive map, being Subternia this time around. So those of you who aren't subscribers and have to have this figure, make sure he comes with the map as all King He-Man figures were shipped out with one; unless of course you find the figure for a bargain without it or simply don't want it. All in all, King He-Man is not only a brand new version of a classic character but will also give your MOTUC collection a regal flair!

The second I saw this toy being released, I might have released a mini Squee sound! I was a little disappointed that he was an exclusive to subscribers on Matty Collectors, but I can understand why... but not being a member I felt a NEED for him, so fortunately with a place like Amazon to fill those extra needs.So, I waited a little, then one day I decided I needed him ASAP so I made the order...Now, I don't want this to sound like a full complaint, I got King He-Man, he is awesome, I'm happy.... BUT!!! and a big BUT! The Amazon description says 'with Subternia Map' which was an exclusive with the toy on it's release... but unfortunately for me, I didn't get this when I opened my box. Am I disappointed? a little... will I get angry and jump up and down screaming? No... I'm 34 (and I still buy toys haha)Basically, I got what I wanted, so I can't complain, but a description is a description and had I known that wasn't going to be included... I could have got it a little cheaper on eBay!
