Lightweight, easy to handle, non-lofty coverlet

After our dog accidentally ripped a hole in our existing, king-sized, densely quilted comforter, I decided a flatter, less high-pile, less lofty or "poofy" covering would be more adequate for our needs.This coverlet (with matching king pillow shams), so far, works a lot better. Measure your bed accurately to make sure if the California King vs regular King is what you'll need. I ordered the California King. It covers the whole topside and drops about 12-13" on all three remaining sides of our bed. In other words, ours does not touch the floor or even stop 1" from the floor (as the picture describes). I wonder if I should have gotten the standard king size for this reason? (I made the mistake of not measuring the bed beforehand.) In any case, I'm not worried.... it looks quite beautiful, and am generally pleased with this coverlet. It provides the easy, modern, "clean-lined" look I wanted, has enough coverage to conceal the mattress and box spring below, and (while I still throw a blanket over the top to protect it from my dog's teeth), "so far so good" where that's concerned. When my dog picks up his plush toy from the top of the bed now, he doesn't pull up any "extra" poofy fabric in the process, by accident, like he did with our first one. I'm sure this coverlet will last longer and for the price, I feel it is a bargain.On another hand, I must admit I am used to a "heavier" feeling bedspread when sleeping, especially in the Midwest wintertime. With this coverlet, I found a resolution to the problem by adding a few additional blankets over the top to achieve the weight I prefer. Take note: There is no real warmth provided if using the coverlet as a blanket alone. It is simply an attractive, quilted in smaller squares, cover that makes the bed look neat and finished when made. If any warmth is required, you'll have to think about adding blankets or an electric blanket (in the winter) in which case, the overall look may not appear as flat (for the bulk of the blanket underneath). To it's merit, the coverlet's light weight makes it easy to handle. Now, it's a breeze making our bed, and in the summer months, I'm sure its light weight will be welcome!All in all, I like my purchase! It washes and dries very easily although, I took it to the laundromat (to use the larger capacity machines) for its size. It dried in record time and came out looking crisp, clean and as beautiful as when I first took it out of its zippered storage holder (that it came in). The coverlet folds easily and the matching shams, that fully encase the king-sized pillows, complete the finished look. I'd give it 3-3/4 stars, if I could. I'm giving it 4-stars because, due to the light fabric, I may ultimately buy a heavier, more fitted bedspread for the winter but it serves my purpose for now. I will definitely keep this coverlet for spring through summer and/or even through the fall season.Thankfully, my dog cannot hook his teeth into this coverlet (for the smaller quilting), and hasn't considered for one moment to destroy it. I may be buying him his own (dog) bed very soon! LOL!
